I'm almost sure it's the same with PZ1-p. And I say "almost", because I don't have my camera right here to check it and I can't find some photo online from it's back. If not those two buttons, I am sure it's a combination of some other two buttons and they are well shown in a grafic manner, with sort of a lightbulb figure, like in the bellow image for the PZ1. If I recall correctly, LCD lights up with a lovely blue light.

Yes, I do prefer the repair route rather then getting another camera IF I trust the camera technician and/or I have garantee in the repair, because, as Ben sayd, you never know what camera you'll get buying second hand. I've spent about 80 euros repairing an ME-Super which can be bought with CLA done for about 50 euros. My camera later developed the same problem (mirror stuck) but I trust my tech guy and he gives a 6 month garantee on all repairs, so no problem.
I'm just saying, if the repair is too expensive or you don't have a trusted tech guy or it's unrepairable, a second hand Z1-p is a not so expensive option. I do love my Z1-p!

I use a Tamron 70-200/2.8 with no aperture ring (like yours) in My Z-1p with no problems (that is, i control aperture in camera, and it works in all exposure modes). I also use it in my MZ-S and MZ-5n in full auto and shutter priority modes. It's not that hard to work around the fact that you cant directly control aperture: camera assumes that lens is in "A" setting, so you put it in shutter priority mode, control shutter speed in camera and it selects the apertures needed.

As Adam sayd, you need a A-Series minimum body to be able to control aperture with lens with no aperture ring (like FAJ or DA series lens). Even then, some A-Series or later bodies won't allow all exposure modes. For instance, flagship MZ-S won't allow aperture priority mode (it will however allow shutter priority mode, so you can indirectly control aperture by controling shutter speed - that's what I do, with no problem). Z1-p (PZ-1p) in my opinion is the best option you have to use these lens, wich also include third party full frame capable modern lens with no aperture ring (like my Tamron 70-200/2.8) - since Pentax no longer produces any bodies that are unable to control aperture, third party manufacturers stoped producing lens with aperture ring.
Also, I find this topic extremely usefull to check full frame coverage of DA lens: https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-slr-lens-discussion/31629-da-lens...ts-thread.html |
