From the Blood Bowl above to the Gold Bowl here, still K-3 and DA 10-17 Fisheye with Metz 58 AF-2 John @ Bar 8/52 by Eric C, on Flickr
Decided not to take K-1 along for the trip up the coast for this event, mainly because I was not willing to deal with the bulk and weight of K-1, also for shooting events K-1 RAW files can add up really quickly. K-3 was more nimble, also it has a higher fps than K-1, enabling me to spray and pray later with my DA* 50-135 f2.8

As a challenge to myself, I took the K-1 and Sigma 15MM f2.8 EX and Metz 58 AF-2 flash to all of the evening practice before Bondi Bow-la-rama this year and see if it works as a sports camera. Keegan @ Bondi 7/52 by Eric C, on Flickr
Well the conclusion is that after printing some of the shots in A3 size, yes I do want 36MP in my life!

If I am honest I don't really know anything about surfing, but as a test of my Nikon D3 and Sigma 150-500MM OS HSM I did take some surfing photos for fun AHS_2547 by Eric C, on Flickr

Thanks for playing everyone, a lot of interesting interpretation of the theme, without further ado here's the winners!
Winner is charliezap , love the way the motion of the ride contrast against the stillness of the person and how the background perfectly complement the flow of the ride, well done!
2nd place goes to StephenHampshire , classic panning shot beautifully captured, on top of the elements you mentioned like the wheels and rods, the steam coming off the chimney/just before the front of the wheels/ off the side of the engine all contributing to the sense of motion, just wonderful!
3rd place I have decided goes to atupdate , this is a very clever way of showing motion by stacking, which compress the whole trick into a single image, very creative indeed!
Honourable mention 1 mattb123 Beautiful blue hour shot, I only wish motion is a larger element of the shot that I can pick up on straight away!
Honourable mention 2 SpecialK the trail smoke really help portrait the sense of motion, the thing about aerial acrobatic photography is that it's impossible to orient which side is up, fun shot though!
Brief comment of the entries,
rod_grant - Hahaha, that is indeed what kids this ago would be like, just wouldn't be still
Vaskebjorn - Beautiful bird shot, colour really pop, I only wish the tip of the wing was not a bit obscured by the branch
JeanF6 - excellent action shot, the dust kicked up by the wheel help enhance the sense of motion, well done
sealonsf - The blurred out denim walking to the left gives the frame a sense of motion, in contrast to the stillness of Addy, cute.
RossCo - Great sense of speed, the even more blurred out rider in the back enhance the sense of motion too
NickDB - Beautiful sunset colour, the almost double image of the kid attract you attention straight away
jacamar - interesting, we know they are heading in the same direction, but somehow beak of one of the penguins breaks the formation haha
eva - love the motion of the hula hoops and her expression
aaacb - beautiful dance photo, somehow her face was showing though the blurriness
Tamia - nice sense of the raging waters, great job!
bigoak - what's with scooter riders? They all seems to be having a great time!
Bruce Clark - Nice, the tail smoke really gives a sense of where the plane has been and where it is going
jchorst - Nice to see horse shots here, as I understand it horses as well as human are harder to capture in slow shutter speed because their movements involve going up and down, compare to say motor sport.
dlneubec - Contrast of the flow of the fall and the still of ice is really nice
noelcmn - wow how fast is the bird flapping its wing to create this effect?
ramseybuckeye - haha the ears definitely shows there is quite a breeze going on in the show, and what is this third eyelid that you mentioned? Got me intrigued!
lukulele - Nice, the leaning of the rider and the blurred out wheels both enhance the sense of motion here.

Finally start using my K-1 for skate photos with the arrival of Sigma 15MM EX Fisheye, still learning to master this combo as it is so different from my usual set up of K-5IIs and DA 10-17 Fisheye. Floater 1/52 by Eric C, on Flickr

Interesting, I haven't read through all the replies yet, but looking at the 1st page, the picture of the girl in white dress seems back focus by quite a bit, I used to use K-5/K-5IIs and Tamron 70-200 quite a bit and I would say auto focus system in the original K-5 was really letting the side down, I've got a lot more satisfying result after I finally got fed up and bought a K-5IIs to replace it. I actually shot my friend's wedding and his daughter's christening in very dimly lit church with the same combo using much much higher ISO like 3200 and still got acceptable results.
I'll provide you with some example of K-5IIs and Tamron 70-200 at similar settings Colour of music - Green by Eric C, on Flickr
200MM, f4. ISO800, 1/250th Colour of music - Blue by Eric C, on Flickr

For portrait and stuff, flash would help tremendously, in the end, photography is all about the light. learn to use (manual) bounce flash(P-TTL for bounce is just not reliable) and off camera flash and you will find your shots improve dramatically. Check out online resource like strobist.com on flickr (http://strobist.blogspot.com.au/)and youtube(I quite like Zack Arias' old one light tutorial but I think they have all but disappeared from the internet), it really helps
