Here are some of pictures that my daughter Samantha took with her new to her, Pentax Spotmatic The first is of the Inks Lake Bridge, Buchanan Dam, TX next the Llano Co. Courts House Llano, TX and one of me with my Pentax K7 and Pentax ME SE. I purchased the Spotmatic from pkaliaf1, Paul Kaliafetis. Shot with Pentax 50mm F1.7. Wanted to check out the camera and all works perfectly. Sure is a time warp shooting Film after so many years of digital and I like it. Film used was Kodak color 200 ASA and it was processed at our Walmart good enough for a quick test. Sam has a Canon 7d that she loves but really has taken a liking to film also.

Hi, Don't know How cool these shots are but these are some test shots I took of my daughter Samantha with her Pentax Spotmatic I bought for her on the Pentax Forums Market Place. I bought the Spotmatic from pkaliaf1, Paul Kaliafetis who lives in Greece and is a great guy. I really enjoyed the purchasing process I experienced with Paul. These photos were taken with a Pentax ME SE with a Vivitar 28mm to 80mm macro lens, I purchased also recently. Need to shoot some shots with my Pentax M lenses on the ME I think they will have a higher IQ. Used Fuji Film 200 cheap stuff. The film was processed at Walmart which is not the best. Just wanted to try out the new to me ME. Looks like it will be a keeper. Going to shoot mostly B&W process it myself and will shoot Kodak color when I feel like I need color. I shoot mostly my K7 but recently got interested in Film again. I scanned these with my HP flat bed scanner may have to break out my old Kodak film scanner, it seems to be a little better. I will post a few from The Spotmatic later.

netrex & jogiba,

I ended up buying the HoodLoupe 3.0-Hoodman The Hoodman HSLRM Cinema Strapsmounting system is not as good as I would like but I will give it a try I found out the secret of using them on a K7 was to cross the straps. The straps uncrossed would slip off the left side of the camera because it is so small. They work Ok if crossed most of the pictures show them uncrossed but I saw some with them crossed and that worked. The HoodLoupe was a low cost solution to the problem

If I start shooting a lot of video I will go ahead and buy the Zacuto’s DSLR Optical Viewfinder Z-Finder I like the magnetic mount and it's quality of buiild.

I am happy I found the Forum this has been a great source of information and expertise. Thank you netrex and jogiba for your great responses nice to have a lot of different views. Nice to have a different solutions to our problems.

What was your first camera and why did you get it?

I was able to find a picture of my Argus C3 my first camera and a Petri 7s that I purchased a few years later, It was taken with my Yashica Mat 124. As I mentioned in an earlier post I bought the C3 when I was in the Airforce. Both cameras served me well. Added another picture from the Argus C3 of My wife and I in 1963, gosh that was long ago. The pictures are not of the same quality of today's equipment but they did capture the moment.

I have had some backups of scanned processed Images that were written to CDs go bad along with the hard drive on my old computer. I was fortunate I still had the originals of the images that I scanned that I could rescan. This was a lot of work that I didn't expect. I am not real trusting of CDs for backup since I had my falures. I now make sure my Daughter gets copies of all the images that I have processed and any new pictures that I want preserved. I also have set up a second system to act as a backup system on my network. I haven't used an off site backup system but I guess I should be using one of these services. Prints of important images made using archival quality printers/paper would be a good thing to do. But I did have a problem with insects and mold getting into some of my older prints that I had stored that's a real disappointment. I was lucky that I was able to save most of them, I do have a storage space problem since we downsized when I retired that limits print storage so Keeping them in a digital form seems to be my best solution.

Do you ever get burnt out?

I have had periods of time where I lost interest. Mainly when I didn't have access to a darkroom. I am not happy with myself because of the missing years of pictures of my family and life events that I didn't document. Really enjoy seeing the old photos now that I am getting on in age. My children enjoy the pictures too and wish we had more of them. I think that digital photography makes it much easier to shoot and handle images and if handled well will allow for better life and event documentation. Nice to see the images immediately this can give you a second chance to capture a great image. Long term backup and archival printing will be an issue. I was able to restore many of my old images from slides prints and negatives with good results. Got to stay diligent in backing up my images. Storage of prints and digital files should be of prime concern to us all. If you do get burnt out get another camera or lens to help keep it interesting.

Anyone here wear glasses?

Yes I wear trifocals. My eyes got old and it's a pain having to wear them. I use the top of the glass the distance portion of the lens and it works out OK but not as good as it was when I was a young person with great vision. Auto focus does help and electronic focus support for Manual lenses help a lot. Thank you Technology Gods!

First Camera was an Argus C3. I bought it when I was in the Air Force at the Base Exchange. It was a good first camera to start with. Got some good pictures with it. Pictures from my C3- My Wife in 1962 and our 1962 Corvair. Photos were shot on slide film and scanned with my HP scanner.

Bought my K7 Kit and a Pentax DA 55-300mm zoom at the same time from Amazon and received the rebate for both items. The cash cards were not sent out at the same time but they both were received. No problem here.

"I can't seem to get any shake stability in movie mode. It won't turn on SR even with it set to on. (maybe some other setting I haven't found yet)"

You might check to see if you have the Wireless or Cabled Shutter Release Remote set to "ON". I had the same problem and found out I had the Shutter Release Remote set to "ON" in the Movie Mode. I had set up my camera on my tripod and turned on the Wireless Remote Shutter Release so I could get in some video and when I finished I didn't turn it off when I finished. I was a little frustrated till I figured out that the SR would not work until I set it to "OFF". Hope this helps.

I have a problem using my K7 to shoot video in bright sunlight with my k7. The problem relates to sunlight reflecting off the LCD and making it hard to view what I am filming. I miss being able to my view finder. I am thinking of making or buying a sunshade/hood for the back of the camera. Anyone have a technique to help with this?

Poll: If you had to pick today, would you get a K7, or a K-x?

The K-7 is my first DSLR. I bought the K-7 after researching many cameras including the K-X. The K-7 just had more to offer in capabilities. I am very happy with my choice and glad I could afford to purchase the K-7. The K-7 is replacing the Panasonic Lumix FZ50 I have been using and the FZ50 suffered from high ISO issues also but served me well for years. The K-7 is a real step up for me and has much better high ISO performance and many exciting features to work with than my old FZ50. The K-7 will keep me busy with all it's potential till the next camera comes out that I can't resist. High ISO quality is not a major drawback to me and K-7 has capabilities beyond my expectations. With some post processing it is a non issue to me anyway you look at it. The K-X is a great camera for the price but it wasn't enough to make me move to my first DSLR.

K-7 capabilities that influenced my decision, were mostly based on what I have read, are:
Higher resolution,
Higher max shutter speed,
Metering system capabilities,
Auto focus lamp,
Faster continuous drive capabilities,
Viewfinder capabilities,
larger LCD with more resolution,
K-7 is a little larger and heaver,
Weather seal and cold resistance on K-7,
External mike for video shooting.

I keep and use cameras for a long time and the solid feel a camera has and features to support many situations are a real issue. Time, images captured and loved will tell how great this camera is. I spent enough years shooting and processing film that I have been spoiled with the powerful capabilities the digital imaging systems we now have provide us. This camera is a quantum leap from the old Spotmatix I loved and used for years, can't wait to see what the future will hold for photography.

Merry Christmas To All And A Happy New Year.
