I started film (35mm) "upgraded" to digital (K10) then went up to K7....back to 35mm and stuck with my P 645. The reason: quality, detail and all the lenses and gear are high end stuff.
I still use my digital gear because of cost and convenience but when I want something special I take my MF out.
Note: I have 2 kids (9 &10) they are quite familiar with my cameras, when I bought the 645 they told me it was ugly and old, when they heard the shutter they just stopped and walk back to me and said...."Dad..thatīs a beautiful camera!"

HI
I fly a lot and I always carry my gear, the only place in the world Iīve had a problem was in The U.S. (Chicago & Denver) but because of the tripod, they wanted to dismember it in pieces which I refused, it took me 2 hours while they "check" my tripod other thatn that no problem just say "itīs my camera" and thatīs it. If youīr planning to take a big tripod think twice.
Good luck

Hi
Interesting topic, in Japan yes....the more gear and the bigger lenses = more "respect", also you can see very young kids (teenagers) with an amazing display of gear and have no idea of how to use it. But as well you can find incredible photographers with just a spotmatic in the hands.
PENTAX reputation in Japan is never a discussion topic, they just like the newest and expensive things, and they canīt overcome that.

Iīd keep the K7, K 20 is awsome but itīs behind now, the upgrading will give you more high ISO margin so....
Deep inside you, you just canņt get rid of your K20 isnīt it? It happens to me with me K10 (Iwill keep it for ever)
Good luck!

Everywhere I go I always carry my cameraback pack, but mostly I always look for airports, there you can find : airplanes of course, birds, people, open sky without cables or high buildings in a decent perimeter, etc.. there are city airports and country sideairports, they all have something for you.
Try an airport guys, youīll enjoy it I promise.
*Use google earth to find good spots near a runway end.
*look for "spotting guides" for specific airports in the internet, youīll be surprised.
*Meet aviation spotters, they are nice people with a hughe knowledge on photography.
Good question Adam.

I shoot aviation, (a Canon & Nikon world) my friends and partners thought doing aviation with Pentax was impossible but........they were wrong, Iīve had good results in the websites, high quality printings and a few published pictures with my K10 & k7 and lenses kit.
After I tried a 7D.....yes itīs amazing I admit, but I just canīt quit Pentax feeling and roughness. Sometimes I feel like Canon is made by ingeneers and Pentax made by photographers ( just a personal feeling, I respect all brands)
Go for your best and enjoy any brand, after a while youīll evaluate.
Having fun is the most important.

Hi
I think itīs not an easy task, Iīd do RAW and try a little high ISO instead of flash.
Anyway Itīs not so bad, new born pictures will always look great for them!

Hi Daks
Here in Japan they say that is very possible to release the 55-300 WR but not soon, I love that lens and WR version would become my favourite lens, I shoot outdoors mostly.
If any news come out Iīll update.

Hi Straightshooter
As you know I live in Japan, and my native language is spanish, I started the Japanese course with "rosetta stone" and I can say it is great!.
Remember it is a method called "full inmersion" some people like it some donīt, I do, thereīs no grammar sessions, no vocabulary practicer etc. you learn based in your hability to relate images and sounds, as soon as you advance youīll notice that youīve learned how to say many things (even when you donīt know what it means) but after some lessons everything starts making sense.
I reinforce it with other books and courses so I can have more options.
Try!,I think itīs better than traditional methods.
I hope it helps

First, thank you all.
I think I got two important points in these feed back, 1st. Rondecīs quote about the camera can shoot without focusing, and second the tenasioous one about ISO.
I usualy forget about ISO manually, when shooting airplanes in a nice sunny day I use 1/350~1000 and f6.7~8 in TAV mode or M.
I get good results with that settings but lately I am trying to get more good shots, and certainly with your help I will.
Thanks to Rondec,Bimy141,Marc Stabatella, reeftool,TTOne, for taking your time with my question.
Reeftool.- Thanks for the panning tips, I have some good panning shots but sometimes It is very hard to do it with big airplanes if too close to them.

Hi all
I mailny shoot airplanes in motion with a 100-300mm lens.
Which of the next configurations would you use with a K10D & SMC FA 100-300 4.5-5.6.
1.-AFC, anti shake on
2.-AFS,anti shake off
Or any of these mixed??
Here are some of my pics PentaxForums.com - emisor73's Album: JETLINERS
I usually use setting #1 and I get most of my pics blurry and 1 or 2 well focused, any tips to get more shots with good quality?
Thanks in advance.

Hi Oggy
for airplanes I use the Pentax SMC FA 100-300 4.5-5.6, itīs the old one (dark grey) I just love it, itīs not the fanciest one but it is an all terrain and all weather piece.
Sometimes I use the 10-55mm, Iīm thinking about an 80 or 100mm or something like that also.
Thanks for watching my pictures, I have many more Iīll upload them soon.
I created a group,(aviation) letīs use it if you want.

Thanks for the information Andre
Iīll keep in touch with you for sure, Iī, Mexican and I speak spanish too.
Iīd appreciate your opinion on my pictures, I have not upload anything in A.net or the other sites, I know the screening is quite hard on photoshop, so any tips are welcome.
Gracias
