Thanks, a fantastic resource, but not a single lens from Pentax.
Still, the condensed availability of so much information in one page is amazingly helpful.
Thank you for pointing it out to me.

Here is a link to the email for free software developers that could add pentax to their list of supported cameras. Email them with your request, given enough interest they will add it to their program. support@sofortbildapp.com
Here is a link to the website with the softwared (currently NOT supporting Pentax). Sofortbild - Mac Tethered Shooting |

There are K-7's available all over the net for under $900, go to nextag.com and search, they will direct you to the appropriate retailers.
Today's best price is $869, not bad.
They also have a price history chart where one can see how the prices changes.
There was another retailer that had the K-7 for $700 (just body) but their website is experiencing temporary troubles. Would be happy to share it with interested parties.

The loss of ability to shoot tethered on the K-x and especially on the K-7 is a really big deal, especially for pro/semi-pro people, and is probably holding a lot of people back from getting a K-7 which would otherwise would be a clear winner.
How do we organize and petition the Pentax company to bring back that capability?
How can we make the company respond to our feedback and improve the camera substantially, while likely only releasing a firmware update?
Any suggestions/advice?
Pentaxians unite for a better K-7!

It is product studio photography, off a tripod, focal distance probably 35-75mm, shot from about 3-10ft, but has to be sharp so that later when customer reviews images they can zoom into parts of image reasonably tight without heavy blur.
Thanks everyone.

I second that opinion, no tethered option on the K-7 level camera is a HUGE shortcoming and would make the camera so much better.

What lens would produce tack-sharp images for the obsessed pixel-peeper at a reasonable price? (under $500-600?) This is indoor/studio detailed photography but NOT macro, shot from approximately 3-12 ft distance on a tripod.
Thank you.

Does anyone know how one can "shoot tethered" with a K-7? That is, what connection and settings does one choose to be able to connect the camera to the computer live and have the image immediately displayed on the large computer screen upon taking the picture in addition or instead of the camera's little back screen? (This is studio work on a tripod and a laptop standing on a stand nearby)
Thank you.

I asked the same question in a different forum and got a very good answer.
There is a video link explaining it for a different camera, see below. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KPdy52mR6Io
1. In general, the two IS systems are not compatible and make it worse when both are turned on.
2. The in-lens system is better so turn off the in-camera one. (Multiple reviews on dpreview.com confirm that as well).
3. You can always experiment and find out for yourself if you have such a system and post your findings for the rest of us to learn.
4. Manufacturers should figure out a way to design them to compliment each other, not "fight" each other for improved image stabilization.
Good luck.
