Here's one using a Sigma 70-300 Dl super macro.

Pentax K-7 video trial. I did a macro video shoot of melting ice and saw this cool close up version of
what happens. As water droplets formed and separated,
the top part of it would refract the sunset light behind it and turn a
golden color. It was way cool. So I added some music to accompany it. This is a raw video file... using the Petax K-7, not cgi, of ice
melting using my Sigma 70-300 macro lens. Time hasn't been changed, colors
haven't been added. It has only been rotated since shot in portrait
mode. Volume is low so may have to turn it up.

Besides my k200d and my new K-7 I have a Nikon D40 because I can sync at any speed and outpower the sun. Here are some examples with only 1/4 power hot-shoe flash.
a:
1/3200 sec , off-camera flash 1/4 power camera left, 1/2 CTO gel

b:
1/4 power camera left with 1/4 CTO gel. 1/1000 sec, f5.6. Flash unit placed in "portrait" mode/vertical.

yeah, plus i just noticed they have $100 debit card deal if you buy the kit lens with it so it comes out cheaper than getting just thebody and I can sell the lens or sell the old one with my k200d. I'm getting the k-7. I bet once I play with the video, I won't regret it.

ivoire, having both cameras k10 and k-7, do you feel the k-7 is worth it? it may have features I haven't considered using but prob would once i have them. I can get the k-7 through amazon for $1060 with no payents for 6 months which works for me as i'll be doing some weddings to maybe justify the costs by then and maybe sell my 200d. Was just thinking how cool it would be to shoot video through my 10-17 fisheye lens? has anyone done this?

okay so i have a k200d I bought when I getting into digital and not sure how much I'd get into it. 1 1/2 years later, it's my life and I am semi pro. Most of the money I made went into buying lenses, flashes, carbon fiber tripod, etc. I shoot in manual 100% of the time and find myself needed the external adjustments. Had my eye on the k-7 but got laid off from my job and haven't been getting any more freelance work since winter started. I found I can get a refurbed k10d for under $400. I found a new a k-7 for $1050 with shipping which seems to be a steal. Not sure if this camera will get much cheaper than that. does anyone feel it's worth that much more for the price considering i have all the lenses i'll prob need already. Saying that cause ppl say get the cheaper body and get a better lens but not an issue for me. I do like the idea of the focus assist as i primarily use off camera lighting. currently my wireless trigger prevents the use of the k200d focus assist which is the pop up flash. Would I use video if i had it? sure, prob but not that important. Might be nice at wedding? any other things I may not be considering?

Thanks for all of your input. It's the whole "business" part of this I don't care for as much. I like the idea of posting a sign at the venue but in reality, who will write down the info at a nightclub. I guess handing out cards is part of the cost of doing business. I think it does work better for formal events/shows.

Yeah, I've been doing a couple of fashion shows for that purpose and my name is getting out there/networking but at what point do I stop doing stuff for free. I fear I have become "the guy that will do it for free." I love doing it but it's a lot of work without pay. I do need to find a way to get some revenue out of it. I love the circles that doing these events have gotten me and have considered that a perk. But perks don't pay for equipment :)

Has anyone made any money selling pics online of an event they shot at? I'm shooting (for free) at a club opening. They are having a fashion show to start off the night and that's what I am shooting for the club owner. So I was thinking of shooting people after at the club and trying to sell the pics on a site. Would I hand them a slip of paper with the web address when let them see the pic on the lcd? wondering what the best way to do this is? tips/suggestions would be appreciated. TIA

Think I'll go with cybersyncs. People seem to like them. There's not enough info on the flashwaves to spend that kind of money with nowhere decent to return them if I have problems. Cybersyncs are warrantied for 2 years. I've had my pt-04's (3 tx and 4 rx) for a little over a year and have had to replace 3 units already. I knew I'd be stepping up sometime but they really helped me learn off-camera flash stuff. But they aren't reliable enough for me anymore. Escpecially when you have 3 models, a stylists and her two assistants waiting around like during this last shoot.

yep, shutter prob with the ebay triggers. took 15 shots both at 1/160 and 1/125. black banding on some of the 1/160, none on the 1/125. because I have my histogram show up on display, the black banding wasn't evident when I was shooting as the histogram covers it. plus did 15 shots using pc cord at 1/160, no banding. ebay triggers (pt-04) is the prob. My d40 has an electronic shutter so it has never shown up. Need to switch to pocket wizards but I can't swing 4 units atm. It's good to know your equipment's limitations.

I do use the cheap ebay triggers and I have use them on my Nikon d40 and shoot up to 1/500 and never had a problem. I usually use my d40 for portrait/fashion stuff but used my k200d as I needed a bigger image size for these pics. The curtain thing makes sense. Off camera (trigger) the highest speed is 1/160 not 1/180. There were three flashes used in this pic, all off-camera no popup, so the shadowing is not it. I needed the fastest shutter speed to black out what was behind the glass as much as possible. I'll do some more tests using 1/160 and slower to see if it shows up again but I feel the curtain is the answer. Thanks guys and have a wonderful holiday.

Hi, wondering if anyone can tell me what this might be as I have never seen it before. k200d with kit lens with lens hood. Along the right side of the picture there is a weird non-uniform black band. Camera was held in portrait mode so it's on the bottom of the sensor. It showed up once in a landscape shot but I only took two landscape style shots. Showed up on all vertical shots except for one. Did a hundred or so shots after this in a different setting and didn't show back up. I couldn't see the band when chimping so it was upsetting when I got home and noticed it. I shot RAW +jpeg and it showed up on both. Think it may have to do something with the lights and lens hood but it doesn't make sense when it showed up on the landscape image also at the bottom. Thanks
