Keep in mind that Pentax announced the K100D Super, but it wasn't yet available, which also probably hurt sales somewhat.

Now that the K100D's body is just ridiculously cheap after rebates, does anyone think it's worth it to upgrade from my DL so I can improve the AF speed?
Or am I better off waiting for the K10D Super to be officially announced, and see if I can score a K10D body for a few hundred more than the K100D price?
Right now, after rebate, teh K100D can be had for $350, that seems like a bargain for a spare body. The K10D is still nearly double that.

Hmmm Ben says he will have "them". Them refers to more than one of something, multiple bodies, or more likely, multiple lenses?

They also gave the 18-55 DA lens a bad rating compared to the Sigma, Nikon, and Canon lenses of similar focal length. No idea what body the Sigma was tested on. Curiously, they list the aperture as 3.5-4.5 or something like that, not the 3.5-5.6 that it really is (just like all the other 18-55 lenses there).

I started another thread in the lens section relating to CRs very poor rating of Pentax's 18-55mm lens. Is it really that poor compared to the kit lenses included with Nikon and Canon?
Other reviews seemed to indicate that Pentax's kit lens was quite comparable to the others.

This is interesting as I wonder how much SR gets used in the high end. I would guess that most pro photographers use a tripod, in which case SR becomes more or less a moot point.
Something else to consider is whether having no SR + no lenses with SR would be a huge problem.

I believe you need a subscription, their website is at ConsumerReports.org - Consumer Reports: Ratings, Buying Guides & Product Reviews.
They are extremely well known as they don't take advertising, and claim to be unbiased. I believe that this is extremely beneficial when there is "hard data" to be tracked such as the number of defects in a car, or problems over 5 years. Defect rate of Plasma televisions, etc.
However, this isn't very useful when the product being tested is quite subjective to personal tastes (high end DSLRs, taste tests, etc.). What may be pleasing to me may not be pleasing at all to someone else.
FWIW, Pentax received the same score on image quality as nearly every other DSLR. But that just makes the argument more confusing, since it mainly means that the cameras were rated poorly for reasons which much be subjective and not measurable.

CR reviewed the latest batch of DLSRs, and Pentax came out at the bottom. This is very surprising given the following:
-Many major publications have had nothing but good things to say about the K10D
-The K10D scores far below the Nikon D80 and D200 (surprisingly the D80 is rated 2nd, the D200 4th).
-The Sonly Alpha received a high score, despite having known issues with noise
I was hoping Pentax would do better, but in reality, I wonder what the tests involved, there are no specific details. We all know that the image quality, features, and usability of the K10D should be much better than the Alpha.
I'm disheartened since many people take CR's ratings seriously, and this could hurt Pentax's sales when mainstream buyers are considering a camera. The enthusiasts on the other hand, they'll hopefully make the *right* choice :)

To be honest, I was just trying to see if you'd let some details slip, since I can't wait to see the new offering from Pentax :)
I'm guessing that we might see the following:
-New flagship DSLR, 1.3x or better crop, much faster AF, possible "live" display similar to Olympus E330 (I think this is pointless BTW), improved IS, + existing features of the K10D. The big selling points would be the crop factor and improved AF.
-I'd also expect a body to slot between the K100D and the K10D. Perhaps a high MP version of the K100D, or a lower featured version of the K10D. Ideally i'd personally like to see a stripped K10D with some features removed, offered at $100-200 less. This strategy would also allow the K100D to move down in price slightly, making it affordable for those shopping premium P&S models.

The latest issue of Consumer Reports just rated lenses for SLR cameras. I was dismayed that the Pentax 18-55mm only scored 52 out of 100, while the Nikon, Canon and Sigma counterparts all received much higher scores.
Is the Pentax kit lens really that bad compared to the others? I was always under the impression that it was quite good.
I'm sure exactly what the testing involves, and when it comes to "niche" products such as audio gear I sometimes feel that CR reports on what is best for the "average buyer" rather than for the enthusiast.
In fact, the only lens which scored lower than the Pentax in this category was the Olympus Zuiko :(

Ben,
Not to put you down, i'm also very interested in what the K?D will look like, but don't you already know? ;)
You previously mentioned two new bodies which would be released in the near future, so i'm assuming that you may know more about the K?D?

It's great that the price dropped. With the newly gained strength of the Canadian dollar, it's frustrating to see distributors gouging consumers with CDN prices that are still 30-40% higher than US prices.
Kudos to the CDN distributor of Pentax for actually lowering the price.

I'm using centre-point AF, wouldn't this help make it faster (since it's always focusing on the same point)?
In any case, it looks like I have an excuse to get a K10D in the future :)

I recently purchased the FA 50mm f1.4 lens, mostly to try out a prime lens, but also because I wanted to be able to take indoor shots (with decent lighting) without using a flash.
I've noticed that this lens seems somewhat slow to focus given the low aperture it's capable of. The slow focusing is especially aparent if the subject is moving (although rather slowly).
My body is the DL (for now, hopefully will upgrade soon), so I know this isn't helping either. The problem is that the 50mm appears slower to focus than the kit lens (18-55mm), has anyone else experienced this, or could they perhaps offer some pointers?
