Seriously 2 things I'd wish the most:
Video HDMI Out for Liveview & Uncompressed Recording
Mic input level meter.

Zoom H2N is definitely a nice unit. I'm also liking their H4N.

Overall, pics came out decent. Though I was a little fooled by how sharp and nice the LCD screen is, pictures look amazon on the screen.
My only bad review of it:
Of the small session yesterday, the camera froze 3 times. I cannot change any settings beside the "Mode dial" and taking pictures. I couldn't turn it off, had to remove the battery. I'm not sure if anyone is experiencing this problem.

Thanks FruitLooPs. I've did some calibration on my Tamron and it came out a bit better.
Took the camera to a local car meet this weekend. Here are some shots: |

ahhh....must be why. That kinda sucks. I thought it was my K-x that has Focus issue, but I guess it's in the lens. May be I should try with different lens.
What were you adjustment though?

Okay, small updates:
I haven't the time to play with it much, just couple minutes yesterday. Here's the feedback I have:
Pro:
1. Very fast AF. It focus automatically, in all lighting condition. Wayyyyyy faster than the K-x.
2. LCD Screen is very sharp. Sharper than the image actually is
Cons:
1. Seems to have front focus problem. I haven't done the specific chart test, however, upon playing around, it seems to be doing so
2. No Mic input & No HDMI out for video really get to me as I also shoot video though. Of course I can sync it with the H4N, but I do wish it has the fuction readily available, even as a backup for run & gun situation.
More to come

The pics were a little over exposed but the blue are reallyyyy nice. I took it outside and it looks just like that when the sun hits it.

While waiting for my D800 to arrive, I decided to grab the K-30 in the mean time to see how it really performs, given that there hasn't been much review about it. I've originally started out a Pentax Guy and my current Pentax DSLR is the K-x, great little camera to travel and walk around with. Well, my K-30 has arrived today. Out of the box, it looks and feels great. I really like the grip.
Upon first look, I was truly disappointed that it doesn't have a headphone Jack for External Mic. I can deal with no HDMI output (given it's meant for run & gun situation), but the lack of External Mic is a big downer for me. However, let's hope the Photo and Video feature can truly perform. This would make a great backup camera for my shooting, especially from Video perspective.
Anyhow, here are couple pics of it (taken with the K-x). More in-depth review once I done charging the battery :) |

Another vote for Eneloop type batteries. I've been using them on the Metz 58 AF-1 and they didn't wear out as fast as other AA types.
Looks like I'll be sticking with them for the new K-X as well. :)

Thank you everyone.
So the recommendation is to get the 48 AF-1 to be used as slave and potentially as "dual" slave (together with the 58 AF-1) if I do the wireless with short distance where their sensors can both see the popup's flash?
Would that be the "cheapest" solution for a hobbyist like me?
I'd love the Alien Bees B800 setup, but can't seem to justify the cost.
Also, if that's the case, then I'd just need to get a set of lightstands + softboxes and I'd be set to do short distance portraits & car shots?

Hello everyone,
As a hobbyist, I didn't get the chance to explore nor able to use my gear to their most potentials.
I'd like to learn more about lighting/strobe/flash.
Right now, I have the Metz 58 AF-1 to go with my K10D and the K-X (in shipping). I've upgraded the FW on my K10D to allow me to use the wireless function and tried with my Metz.
1. However, it's very intermittent. Am I doing something wrong? or it's like that and I'd need a radio trigger (Radio Popper?) to make it easier?
2. I don't have a big budget for full fledged hardware, so I was thinking about getting a lightstand + a portable softbox and mount so that I can use the Metz wirelessly. Would that be ok or I'd be better off getting secondary slave strobe units?
I mainly take photos at events like car meets and of family or friend's parties.
Thanks,
|

I've been using the Metz 58 AF-1 with my K10D and plan to use it for the K-X.

Hello everyone,
My name is Kevin, from ATL, GA. I've been a Pentax user for a little more than a year, but only as a hobbyist, so I didn't get the chance to exploit much. I hope to learn more tips and tricks from everyone.
I don't have much, just the basic for walk around stuffs:
Pentax K-X (getting this as 2009 xmas present - should arrive soon)
Pentax K10D
Sigma 10-20mm
Tamron 17-50mm
Pentax 50-200mm
Metz 58 AF-1
Regards, :D
