ebay np400/k10d etc. Li-Ion Batteries?

Hi,

I'm looking at the range of these on e-bay, from batts with no capacity indicated to 1850mAh which I think is pretty good if the batteries are of respectable quality. I appreciate some are going to be 'don't go there' items. My questions are...

Has anyone tried any of these and have good reports?

My bias is towards high capacity so I'm not continuously changing batts, so is anyone doing > 1850mAh in this package?

Thanks in advance, a little advice would really help me.

(I am looking at one unmarked capacity cheap model on the bench in front of me with a charge time of a few hundred milliseconds, and an output lifetime not far behind that, potentially not all that old, with a voltage that sags rapidly before the controller says end of play:( )

Happy New Year!

Thanks Mike, Iris, Ash, Carl, and Primeobjectif :)

Yes, I'm certain its a good place already. I've found a lot of information, and I hope I can contribute some too over time. It's good to put something back into a resource.

Time is pretty short at the moment, but I hope to have more time to populate my space on the forums.

And primeobjectif .... Leicester city! Yes they are doing better (although I won't say it too loud in case luck changes), they have been up and down with results. I hope they'll do well this year :) It's great to know there's fans watching the game in other parts of the world. you might want to see BBC - Leicester - Leicester for the local radio station and more sport info. He probably has this, but just in case ;)

Ok, my lenses are mostly unloved inexpensive glass like Meyer or Hoya, but I have some Nikon and I have a few SMCs. I have at least 28,35,50,135,200 and 400 primes and also three other zooms inbetween.

Thank you for a nice warm welcome everyone

Best wishes

Which Chinese Focus Screen Requires no Shims? (for K10D)

I will not submit a full write-up on this thread for reasons of brevity.

I found I definitely needed a shim with my (HK) double 45 split screen, and an extra modification to the screen's width to enable it to drop into the inlay in the viewfinder.

I did a few measurements... the existing copper shim in my camera was 0.35mm.

to summarise... I checked focus with a 28mm lens at closest distance, with the lens wide-open. It seemed the easiest way to exaggerate any error when trying out different shims.

Many plastic packages that are intended to be thrown away have good potential for use as a shim, rather than paper which may compress or absorb water vapour. I used a piece of white translucent acetate sheet.

This shim, at 0.24-0.25mm gave an excellent result. I cut the U shape out (to match the original shim pattern) with a surgical knife. Its fiddly to place the piece of plastic shim and making sure it stays there as you struggle with the screen and clip.

This modification has worked extremely well so far. I'm not suggesting all cameras need reshimming, it may be the 3rd party screens don't sit right in the finder recess properly, tolerances in either respect are stressed, or that the screens are easily misinstalled. Certainly my camera body had a pre-existing error which required this mod.

Hope this info is of help.

Sensor cleaning with lens on?

...If the batteries are running low whilst you are cleaning the sensor, the camera will start bleeping to warn you to get whatever you have inside the body on the sensor out of the way before the shutter closes and the mirror drops

You might think it was going to explode once the bleeping starts! :o)

Happy Pentaxing

Just thought I'd put a quick hello on here.....

I'm finding my feet again with a (pentax) DSLR after some time away from cameras. I used to use film and used to do darkroom work, and I'm glad I don't have to set up filtration on colour heads, stagger round under a colour safelight or load up cassettes any more.

Anyway, I can't say I'm not going to suffer with LBA, because I've already got it. I fear it's a chronic case. I'm getting duplicated lenses now by different makers, so it's really biting hard. I use my camera on manual largely. I have just the one FA lens, but really prefer the weight and feel of the older lenses.

I'm really into the technical as well as the creative side of what's always been a life interest, so I'm very much into experimentation with the gear, and spending even more time taking pictures. I enjoy landscape and nature shots, but have interests in portraiture; I'm a definite texture junkie hehe.

Okay, enough from me. Happy Holidays everyone, and see you around on the forum I hope
