It feels good doesn't it?! I've just gone from a reliable old K-7 of many years to a K3ii and the 16-85 - so I'm a similar boat to you. The autofocus is a huge upgrade for me, although I suppose I could say that about pretty much every aspect to the camera... The low light performance (focus, image quality) is what swayed me in the end. Fantastic first impressions.

Thanks for the reply, it does seem this isn't exactly uncommon. I suppose it must be really quite difficult to make such an UWA in such a small package, but I agree I've seen images from other people with it that are sharp all over in a way I don't think I could replicate with the one I have. Oh well, nothing's perfect!

Seems that way, I guess it's probably just the field curvature then. I try to avoid cropping too much; and to get rid of the soft area in most of today's images I'd probably be losing a good chunk of the frame. But the effort might be worth it given the other merits!
Seems a good lens for spiders! Really nice shot, the yellow makes it.
Yeah, I've done some more test shooting today and it seems that way. Probably just the field curvature. Ah well. I almost always focus manually anyway, don't trust the AF on my K-7 any more ;) Been shooting it at pretty much exclusively f/11 too, but stopping down (even further) only helps a little bit. I'd hoped it might produce images that would stand up to 1:1 scrutiny, but it doesn't seem the tool for that job. As for shooting straight into the sun... got that covered.

Thanks!
True, true. Perhaps I was expecting a little too much, I guess the corners/edges are the weakness that comes with this lens, just got to deal with it. No denying that other than that it's an absolute gem.

Finally got my hands on one of these for a decent price used. A fantastic feeling lens, and the flare resistance/sunstars are great. Alas, something about the sharpness isn't quite what I expected, but I think it may just be the copy I've got. Center is pin sharp, and the edges are generally ok, but there seems to be a large area on the right/top-right side that is always out of focus/soft. Of course, it might just be me, but I can consistently get sharper shots across the frame with my sigma 10-20 easily. Maybe I was expecting too much from the 15? Either way, I'm going to send this one back and hope to find another! The 15mm limited will probably continue to control my mind until I can own one again ;)
Unless someone can tell me I'm just doing something wrong/not seeing it right? Both taken at f/11, hyperfocal focus
Top left and top right 100% crops:
Middle left and middle right 100% crops:
Another couple, if this lens were sharp I don't think I'd take it off my K-7 for quite a while! |

Thanks for the advice, I tried resetting and taking the battery out, but it didn't help, so I'm going to try and get it replaced.
Thanks again, I appreciate the help :)

Right, I bought a K-7 last Saturday, and so far I've been highly impressed, excellent performance and image quality all round.
However, today I powered it on mid-morning after showing some images on the TV (and after some shooting earlier) and was greeted with a strange vertical line down the middle of the LCD screen (A couple of pictures of this attached). At first it was just flickering a bit, but now it's there all the time. (Viewing shots, live view, menus - any use of the screen).
It doesn't affect the shots captured at all, it just seems to be to do with the screen. I've updated it to the latest firmware (I went from 1.00 to 1.02), recharged the battery, formatted the card, but nothing seems to have any impact on this line.
Has anyone else encountered this?
Any insight into why this might be happening would be hugely welcome, and anything I could do about it.
It's incredibly frustrating, because the K-7 is such a fantastic camera otherwise.
Thanks for your time in advance.
