Hmm, how to check? I might be lucky, I have been doing a phote project for which my K-1 was a bit too bulky for my liking, and a bit too new and expensive .

Pentax 24-70 vs 28-105

I got the K-1 with the 28-105 and the 15-30. Main reason being that 28 on FF might not be wide enough for important parts of my shooting (mainly Carnaval .. :p ) (for example, on APS I like the ability to go to 16 mm better than 18mm, the only reason I did NOT get me the 16-85 was the arrival of the K-1).
So far I have noticed that indeed the 28mm is often not wide enough.. 15-30 is a very lovely lens BUT, it is heavy and bulky an there is no possibility for a filter... (working on that but that might cost me some wide angle mm)
The thought of getting me the 24-70 for wider angle, lower f and less bulky than 15-30 and the possibility to add a filter(very usefull for carnaval ( although when you rinse and thoroughly clean your lens each day I have noticed (on other lenses) that water, beer, mayonaise and other dirty stuff does not do much harm to modern lens coatings) is strongly rooted in a small part of my brain.

Going to the Democratic Republic of the Congo, any tips?

Thanks, I am aware of teh official sites but cannot find anything on photography besides the obvious things... For example Where to pack stuff? In the past I have taken the risk of packing it in my backpack as gear in handluggage sometimes aroused suspicion, other times I opted for handluggage because I did not trust bagage handling (although dirty underwear on top does help).. Wont bring K-1 and 15 30 ofcourse

About photography, aside from what usually should be avoided like photography of just about anything (remotely) official, get my yellow fever jabs and not to stroll off the road when taking a leak (at least not venturing into any vegetation, bad snakes might lurk there).
(Yes, I do have Western Africa experience but I suspect there will be a difference between Burkina Faso and the Congo like between Europe(ans) from Northern Scandinavia and Sicily, if not more)

If you come from the DA*16-50 you wil be very dissapointed at missing the 4 wide mm. That is why I got the 15-30 as well. But that lens is even bulkier than the 24-70 and to be honest , I see myself gettin the 24-70 as well. I don't see myself slogging around all the time with the 15-30 when I "need" something wider

Wel, all this unsold cameras are money not yet paid, therefore it does not make sense to have too much stock, unless it is some tax evasion scheme.
Besides as we can read here in orther threads, more countries seem to have received more than their pre-orders

Bl...y annoying that there are unsold copies at SRS and not enough were delivered to the low countries, not even by a wide marging, to fill all pre orders.

Apparently I missed some posts on Dutch forums... They have arrived just not in my hand. Pre ordered february 19th or 20, not really sure, but the store I ordered form only got 3, for 20 pre orders . Can't say I am impressed by Ricoh logistics, surplus to some countries, not even close to the number of pre orders to others.

They only got 3, probably 7 for the whole country

No, iif it arrives on the 28th (although I think that might be a bit early, I have no other recollection than the 30th) AND if you respond to a message that tells you it has arrived AND reply that you still want it, I think there is a chance he will send it on the 28th.

Maybe but OTOH first batches of sensors might already have been at the camera site and I still have not seen any report about a dslr sensor factory being hit, most talk is about plants making sensors for apple and other small stuff.. (I thnink Sony has 4 or 5 sensor factories, one of those is not in the area affected by the quake and of those affested only one is seriousely damaged, the other ones are merely shut down for inspection.

I prefer no flash at all but sometimes I shoot at events with a sort of after party and then people like to have "after party mugshots" if you know what I mean. Now, that is quite hard without a flash and just to get an external flash for that is quite overdone, if not too bulky to carry around in the crowd.

Even worse, I have often stated that this is one of the more useless new features desired by many...
Now I still think one could shoot without an articulated screen but I wonder how often I will use it..

Still mourning the demise of the pop up flash though, always nice to have some flash capability just in case without bringing a separate flash unit.
