Various FA* glass at tokyo

If you've got some $800 and live in japan or near tokyo, you should go check this little store near shinjuku station. I saw two FA 200 and two FA 85 plus one FA 28-80/2.8 all around the same price around ¥70000. It's the nearest used camera store in the north east exit and crossing the road in front of the east lumine building towards the north. A small and really easy to go unnoticed shop.

Don't be greedy.

I was eating when I saw that. Came a little unexpected. :(
In my case, as long as what I'm eating is good and don't ask what it is until I finished eating I don't mind. I've heard dog is actually tasty, won't know till I try it myself which won't be in the near future.

And then I continued eating.

Please help me to understand what with my 31mm/1.8

What you see are chromatic aberrations. This are natural occurences in big aperture and specially visible in wide-angle lenses. This is a inherent characteristic of the lens and will happen mostly when wide open or almost open, between 1.8-2.8 normally. Fortunately it can be corrected rather easily in post-processing, or so I've read.

Take a chance this weekend and go out to take pictures with the lens, try to shoot at the aperture you want and if possible one at f/4 or smaller. You've got a great lens, just remember that that happens mostly when you have high-contrast/extremely bright areas in a photo and you'll do fine. With practice you'll be able to identify the subject and adjust your settings accordingly.

Have M 28/2.8 - worth buying M 28/3.5?

Mine is in the mail. :P I actually bought it looking for a small k-mount wide angle, I have the M35/2 but sometimes it's too big to carry around (I'm spoiled from the M50/1.7). Since the M35/3.5 is selling for more I decided to pull the trigger in this one.

The M28/2.8 is a little smaller though, which is weird, being a faster lens. Now I'm thinking of completing the M series set-up with a 200/4 and a 85/2 but I don't use the teles too much and have the 77 so it's not essential right now.

Photo_guy, nice link. Thanks.

The Darned 50mm Split ...

The tamron and the pentax 28-80 are recommendable both. Just two things to point out: the pentax is expensive, not that easily available, and worth it. The tamron is quite cheap, easily available new, and it's a great performer. There's a thread that compares both, you should check it out.

The FA* 28-80/2.8 which is the closest to the specs in recent Pentax glass is really close in rendering to the Tamron version, with advantage on the side of the FA*.

Sometimes a discordant appearance can make a variety to your pics, and that's not bad most of the time.

I'd like to see a shot with the lens in a digital camera.

I'll post some photos of the transparent 645D if you like.

What are you going to shoot, and what finish you want the photos to have will dictate the lens you need. Do some research before of the places you want to see, check the weather at that time of the year, search for photos in here, flickr or elsewhere.

The 18-55 kit is a nice lens, but if you're also thinking of telephoto shots getting the 55-300 is a good idea.

Take a look at the pentax 17-70 which might also be a single-lens solution. (Without a tele-photo, though)

Thanks for the quick answer.

I fumbled around and checked different areas of the gallery, but didn't do a search. I think a little dumb from my part. Will do and post results here.

Problem with exif is that pre-A series glass wont appear there. And won't appear in the search unless the owner did post the lens in the comment. Wich now i think is similar to what i was thinking.

Edit: Just did a couple of searches. The hits were all over the place, searching for "35mm Takumar" gave results for both takumar glass and 35mm lenses. The same for similar searches for other lenses. I was wondering how could something like this be implemented but couldn't find a simple way. Even worse, a backwards compatibility/change to past photos to be able to get included in the results.

I have to say that you never stop impressing me. Each time I think you've got the most interesting stuff you out-do yourself. Nice catch.

As far as i've read, this cameras were made as expo stand display cameras. For example, march's photo expo in yokohama, japan had a transparent 645D in display.

There's a photo in Additional Body Photos but no more info found at hand.

I was wondering, I've seen for a long time different requests made for images made with this or that lens for a comparison between them or for basis. Is there a simple way of implementing that for the galleries so you just go searching for the lens and find an amount of pics shot with it?

I know that the lens clubs are made for that but for example, the tak club is so vast that searching for a special flavor of tak is incredibly time-consuming (A request could be done, and is how it's been going around).

Samyang 85mm vs DA* 55mm at F1.4

Try your DA70 for the photo you want, the max aperture of f/2.3 is something to take into account. Also, the A50/1.2 could be a different alternative to the shot.

da 35 2,4 vs sigma 30 1,4. what to get?

If you can get the 43 for the price of the 30, consider it. But you already got a 50/1.7 so it might also be a little redundant, not that i wouldn't get it... And i have four different normals. But the size/weight is so attracting that the DAL 35/DA40/FA43 is a dillema for me.

With normal-bright indoor lighting ISO 400, 1/60 @ f/4 can work well. I've shot (outside) my M50/1.7 at ISO1000, 1/30 wide open and got pretty good results, mind you it was 10 p.m. and candle lighting.

The DAL is one stop slower than the M, but you can go one stop slower in exposure and still get keepers (except when subject is also moving, then it gets difficult). Try and see what exposure you need for the M in your normal indoor lighting and then you can figure out what you need.

All in all, it still ends with what you want. If you want the sigma, go with the sigma. Better get what you want than regret it later.

How about a Pentax-M/A 200 or 300mm? They are way cheaper and you still get AF.

I'd buy the 35mm if it had full time manual focus (and a distance scale, come on is it that expensive to print that on the lens?). I'm still wondering which, though. The 35, 40 or 43. No money for either, luckily.

If you want to travel light, get the 35. If you need subject isolation, get the sigma. If you want a aps-c "normal" and a lens for low light, the 35/2.4 plus a Pentax A or M 50/1.7 might be a better option. You can get nice subject isolation at 35mm even at f/3.5 or f/4. Try it with your zoom and you'll notice that.

Fungus Has Invaded My Lens!!

Just remember to wrap it in aluminum foil or white paper in the outside lens barrel so it doesn't overheat and leak some oil to the aperture blades. Remember to take everything out of the focal point or you can start a fire or burn something. Other thing you can do is put it below a UV light and it will kill the fungus and if it was a s-tak 50/1.4 de-yellow it.

Keeping your stuff in a dry box will prevent most problems of this sort. Although the best soution is to use your equipment periodically and not to store them in a place with high humidity and without air currents to cycle air around and inside the lens.

Google translate is your friend. :) If you have a friend that knows japanese, ask him/her to help you when writing or you're in doubt.

Most people will try to help you. There are some that oppose completely at selling to foreigners, though. Ussually they will write that they wont sell to foreigners in big block letters at the top in english, so don't worry too much. In this year i've found two different sellers that did.

All in all, if you're going to be in japan for a while i'd recommend studying some japanese. Most people appreciate the effort when you try speaking to them in their mother tongue, japanese or not.

For some reason, the helios et al are really expensive in the auctions here lately. I think it's because they are "not made in japan".
