I'm trying to order between Jinfinance ($31) and LinkDelight ($21) for the K7. Obviously, I would like to avoid having to do anything with the shims. Can someone drop a note as to which one worked better for the K7?
Thanks!

I hate to start yet another focusing screen thread, but could people please share any tips that might be helpful to everyone.
Some tutorial on the net suggested that the mirror be covered with a lens cleaning cloth, is that okay to do?
Thanks!
EDIT: oops! I should have out this in the camera accessories thread. Admins, please move it if you get a chance -- I can't seem to do it. Sprry about the trouble

Any suggestions on which one has a better chance of being good on the K7: Jinfinance, Travor or the "GGS" brand sold by linkdelight, etc. Focusingscreen.com also looks good but about 2x pricier.

Once you hit the 'Info' button, use the cursor keys around the 'Ok' button to do that.

People may figured this themselves, but I noticed a lot of people complaining on the forums that they have to dive into the menu to change SR settings. I thought I'd post a quicker alternative that I use:
Hit 'Info' button, and move your active selection to SR. Any time, you want to toggle SR, you just have to hit 'Info', rear-dial, and you can toggle SR on/off quickly. Two clicks just short of a dedicated SR button.
Disclaimer: Ofcourse, this wouldn't work if you change other settings using info button as well.

Fabulous pictures!
I'm surmising the reason I didn't get things in focus was because there was a motion blur caused by the fast moving object or my own camera panning to track the objects (my shutter speed was only 1/250). Now, it makes me wonder what mode you guys shoot in? Is it Tv...Also, is SR on?

Are there any tips you could offer for focus tracking the birds? Thanks!
I suppose the lens quality would matter in here too -- maybe, my DAL 50-200 is producing much softer images?

Very nice!
Were you very close to the subjects?
Also, were you doing burst mode shooting?

I attempted to capture some bird shots with very limited equipment, [a Pentax K7 ;) and a ] DAL 50-200 lens. I shot on AF.C centre-tracking -- the limiting factor for me was the reach of the lens.
Note that these birds were really *flying*. I had to keep the camera pointed at them to track and keep them on focus. Still a tad out of focus on the shots. What do you guys think?

I think everyone expected an **MAJOR** improvement from a successive DSLR release (Note that Nikon and Cannon have not released anything in a while because their other departments are already up there). So, the pentax users start mentioning in the groups, ISO is bad but only relative to their own expectations of a K20D successor, and then everybody just picks up on it -- there is no stopping a wild fire, is there?

The question I would ask is whether their AF "algorithms" are not up-to-mark or it is just a matter of pure processing power, i.e., this can also include light paths, beam splitting. If it's the latter; that where's the reduced price for the cameras kick in.

I first bought my K7 (with kit lenses) and then after a few months was messing with a few Canon's at the store. Of-course, they were big and unwieldy. I look through the view finder and half-press the shutter -- focus looked good. I point it far away, do the half-press again -- no change. Hmm, I ponder what's going on -- I keep iterating (point, half-press), everything seemed to be in focus always. Then it struck me, that the autofocus was actually locking so fast and silent with a USM lens :). However, I will note that I can't speak for better how better the SDM lenses on a K7 would do.

Restore Those Clipped Channels
I was attempting to follow this tutorial and I have the image and it saturation mask (as its layer mask). I'm completely lost on the second part of the tutorial; no details on means to achieve the end. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Yup, agreed. First step towards that is making sure that the colors match, which, in turn requires getting the K7's color profile. Most others would give you a decent approximation.

Out of curiosity, I tried to see how Bibble would do -- colors okay, not great! And, no color profile for the K7?
This is the available list:
pen100.icm pen10.icm pen2000.icm pen20.icm pend.icm pendl.icm pends.icm
Does the PEF have an embedded color profile (I think not!)

GoremanX -- I'm using UFRaw 0.17 (coming off the build respository). I use the "Color Matrix" profile, however, the colors don't really match things coming off the JPEG processor on the camera. I'm not sure how to post images on this forum -- let me work that out today...

Does someone have the pentax3.icm color profile? Apparently, that helps with the colors...

I tried using the latest versions UFRaw and Digikam; however, I still am not happy with the colors that are being rendered. Is there a K7 ICC color profile that can help with things. Could someone please share any thoughts on getting the "right" colors?
Thanks for any help!
P.S I understand "colors" are subjective but I would like to make sure that I got the technicality right.

Out of curiosity... did you have a polarizer on that shot?
P.S Needless to say, a good one!

Yup, I was having trouble with that too... getting my focus points to change as I couldn't keep up gentle pressure on the shutter to hold focus. Might be just a matter of practise.
I'm planning to switch to back-button focussing (AF button). Shutter button half-press focussing can be disabled through customization options... might be a viable option.
