8-element Super-Tak 50/1.4 -- aperture ring stiff

So I'm not sure if your case would be the same as mine but I just recently bought a Sup-Tak 35mm which also had a stiff aperture ring. I remeidied the problem by unscrewing the cover for the focusing distance scale. In my case the last user must have either previously taken it apart or just naturally the ring slid out of position which caused it to be tight.

So I unscrewed the cover and placed equal distance from the top of the cover (and the barrel) and the bottom of the cover (where it meets the aperture ring) making sure there is some distance from each location. After doing this the aperture ring turns smoothly like my other smc and sup tak lenses.

If you require pictures let me know I will try to get for you asap. As I am on a smartphone right now and the mobile site doesn't have uploading abilities.

DUST MAPPING IS CLEAN - but still specks on my photos - what's up??

Reclean still dirty. :)

As for the dust alert it is not useless. It isnt always accurate and really deends on how you use it. I always find that t works best with a clean solid surface that is of one colour. Anything that is rough texture can confuse the function of it. And also running it twice for confirmation is best i think.

Aperture ring not closing

If the spring is knocked out of place then the lever that controls the blades will not move back to reset position if I recall. If it is indeed out of place you should be able to tell right away.

Raynox macro- a few questions before I buy

Personally own a 250.

Tripod depends on situation and magnification. I know if I use it on my 300mm or even 200mm focal length lens I need the tripod to get stable. On the Kit lens of 55mm I can occasionally do handheld.

Like all close up filters. You get the most magnification at the longer focal length. So yes the 18-250 would be the better choice. However, at the 250 range you will have lots of movement. So be warned.

150 vs 250. I believe the difference is the working distance. The 150 is less powerful and thus easier to work with. I would go with the 150 as the 250 needs more stability to get god shots without motion blur.

Compare to Macro lens. I don't know never owned one but I would guess that the macro lens would be much much better. As your ability to focal is much easier. Also sharpness should be better as one less piece of glass to transmit light through. However, price into consideration the raynox isn't a bad deal at all. The photos from the Raynox club thread is amazing.

DA 35mm/2.4 - A Plastic Wonder! -- DAL35 vs FA35 vs DA35m vs A35 (many photos!)

Here are preliminary shots of the DAL35mm vs DAL18-55. Firstly, I have to say that I'm not a professional in any way. But I will call it as I see it in this very informal comparison.

I think I might have to start a new thread as I don't want to overload this topic with stuff that vaguely applies.

The shots were taken with a tripod and timer to avoid hand interference. Also auto focus was used and the tripod was not moved to avoid any differences in the picture.

Warning HUGE pictures. Straight from the camera at full resolution. It's about 3mb each so be warned.

From the two pictures the shutter speeds changed a little bit as it's a cloudy day here and the light is variable. However, if you don't take that into account, you can see that the DAL35 provides much more detail compared to the DA18-55. From the Timmy's cup and the Uniden phone. I want to say that the leather pouch on the left of the cup also has more detail also however it could just be lighting in that case so I will ignore that one. However, the colour rendition seems much better. Lastly the felt tip on the markers looks like it's more detailed not just a blur of grey.

Lens help! Sigma vs Pentax

I personally own the sigma apo version. From my own research I believe that the sigma lens has better macro in terms of iq over the tamron. Overall iq the pentax is better at 300mm. But if you are comparing the 50-200 and the sigma or tamron I think I would get the pentax wr version over the others. The sigma is soft on the 300 mm end of the scope it does fine at everything below 200mm. The tamron has better image quality all around but suffers from ca and pf. If you can live with it then it will provide good sharpness. I would pick the wr version of the pentax as an upgrade investment if and when you get a k5. Weather resistant is a very nice feature to have.

Camera or lens?

I wouldn't jump ship just yet. Auto not mean auto everything. There are lots of factors that could affect your photo and the nikon. AE meter style (Spot or Center Weighted or average). LCD brightness setup, I know I turn mine down and if I were to compare it to another person's K2000 it'd look dark. ISO setup. I know in auto mode the camera will generally crank the iso to the maximum level which will produce lots of noise.

I'm not sure how experienced you are with SLRs but those are possible reasons why your pictures aren't looking as good. If I were you I'd try a new lens and it would be a world of difference I think.

Manual lens as default for your DSLR

I personally don't think I have a default lens. I'd want to believe I use accordingly but I do find myself using my 50mm f1.4 alot or it seems to be the only on my camera the most. It's an m series version so manual focus and all. I think manual focus has a lot to do with how you brought up with camera usage. Like the younger crowd that has had af in their cameras tend to dislike manual focus lenses. Because hey are use to the luxury of it. While old shooters who have used manual lenses enjoy the feel of it
