What do you mean by "full manual control" ? Can you give example?
With using a manual lens, I think I already have nearly manual control.
check my video please.

Thank you Karl,
As I understand from these tables, you're sure that k-x first decreases shutter speed and after 1/25 is catched, it starts increasing ISO. Or is this table just a theory?
Are there any ways of understanding ISO - shutter speed of a video?
thx

Hello,
I have a question.
Lets say that I've locked the EV at ISO100 & SHUTTER 1/100 and I am using a manuel lens..
When started recording, if I close the aperture from F/1.7 to 2.8, how does k-x behave? Will it increase ISO or decreae SHUTTER? Or both ?
thx,

Come on Falk,
You cannot be serious :p I am not capable of making such a test.:o
I even don't have photoshop yet. I'm using pentax's software instead.
But I got what you mean. Nowadays I'm trying to solve our issues about sony VEGAS. Maybe later... :)
thanx anyway,
Levent

What do you mean by"fraction of their dots" ? megapixel ?
Lets say a = noise in 500d and b = noise in k-x
a > b (in stills)
a/fa < b/fb (in video)
What makes you think fb is much more smaller then fa?

Dear Falk,
How can you explain k-x having less noise in stills compared by canon 500D, while in video mode 500D has less noise then k-x ?
thx

hi everybody
I made a quick test with k-x + smc-A 50mm F1.7 lens
1- In A mode, I selected Av mode, set iso to 100, make k-x select shutter as 1/50, switch video mode and quickly lock the exposure... And shot the video... F=1/1.7
2- In M mode, I selected P mode, set iso to 100, make k-x select shutter as 1/50, lock the exposure, switch video mode and shot the video... F= 1/1.7 again..
These two videos should be same, dont they? But they werent... The second video is much more bright&noisy...
I'm sure I did not do anything wrong... Locking shutter in P mode doesnt seem to work...

- I never use higher iso then ISO100 at low light conditions.
- If it is too dark, I use 1/25 shutter speed instead of 1/50 but motion blur is a problem as KARL79 mentioned. I prefer motion blur to noise in ISO200 or higher :)
- You must have a fast lens and you must use it wide open. But the main disadvantage of this is very narrow DOF and hardness of manuel focusing.
- If you have a manual fast lens like mine, you can play with DOF during video (in good light conditions)
- There are several programs for reducing noise, you can try them.

@karl79
what will be the diference between 1/50 and 1/25 shutter speed in video?
I thought that kx shoots 24p video so 1/25 would be the best choice in order to catch more light..
@brandoniscool
You will learn the right time to hit the AE button when you practice :) Btw if you do not have a fast lens (licke F1.7 or F1.4) , these settings will not be useful, the screen will be dark...

You must select Av mode first. Then choose ISO100 and manually make k-x choose 1/25 shuyyer speed.
Then quickly jump to video mode and lock the exposure with Ae button befpre screen comes.
This way you will lock the settings in Av mode before k-x change them auto in video mode..
got it?

@limabean
I do not agree with you. I can shot iso-less movies using my new 50mm smc-A F1.7 lens.
Please check the videos below. I think they are great or is there smth that I cannot see??

hi,
I've bought a SMC-A 50mm F1.7 from ebay. It is a magnificent lens for photograpghy but i also considered about video when buying it.
As you know k-x takes noisy videos particularly in low light conditions. To have an acceptable noise in a hd video, you must not take it over ISO200. And to take a video with ISO200 or ISO100, you need and aperture like 1.4 or 1.7 , because you cannot have a shutter speed more then 1/25.
Thats why my friend, as you've said, an old manuel lens will give you great opportunity in video mode.
1-) You can change aperture during video
2-) You can use ISO100 + 1/25 + F/1.7 setting at nights and it is usefull, here is an example
