Great shots for MF with moving subjects ! Assume your k20D also has no split focusing screen ? I can hardly ever get sharp shots with my MF lenses and K-X (unless it's still life) so just succumbed to getting FA 50mm f/1.4.

Thanks for the feedback. Will keep those suggestions in mind for next time :-) Bit hard to tell the outcome on the little LCD screen, especially focus.

Wasn't having too much luck trying to shoot dragonflies until I came across these pair who were too distracted to notice me :) With Sigma 17-70mm.
Only one of them seem to be in focus though... |

Wow ! Great shot ! Much sharper and more vibrant than my "Bee in mid flight" :-)

It was a bit of a lucky shot as well - didn't even see the bee initially when just shooting the lavender bush. And it was a pretty slow bee compared to others I've tried (and missed) shooting.
I normally run the other way rather than chase bees but feeling more brave with the 300mm :-)

Very happy with the lens. I actually already have one in this range (Sigma APO 70-300mm) but got this from the Marketplace anyway as it was cheap. Might sell the Sigma later as the DA L is lighter and wider at 55 even though it doesn't have macro.
Was roughly about a meter away. The bee focus is a bit soft but was pleasantly surprised with the result nevertheless.

Unfortunately I was there on a short trip for work and only got out after hours so didn't manage to get any day time shots. But thanks for the feedback !

Been trying to get one of these shots for awhile. Taken with DAL 55-300mm.
Bee in lavender bush.
Edit: Updated to show larger picture.

Some nights shots taken at Putrajaya, Malaysia with K-X, Sigma 17-70mm and tripod. Should've tried some HDR shots but forgot about it. |

Add on a small prime like 50mm M or 40mm DA and they become even smaller / easier to carry.
My K-X with 50mm M f/1.7 even fits in a sling case that I used with my Canon SX1 (which I sold after getting the K-X)

Am tempted to try one as am having trouble focusing with my manual lenses but the process / video does seem a bit daunting.
Read through this post but am having some difficulty understanding the "shims" part - I thought it was just replacing the focus screens - what's with the "shims" again, briefly ?

Met up with a friend who has a Canon 40d with a 18-80mm lens and he was blown away by the K-X ISO capability and the Sigma 17-70mm when I showed him some shots at high ISO.
When he heard the price of the K-X and saw the results, he almost fell off his chair :-) Not really a fair comparison as he would've gotten his setup about 2 years back now though...

I recently got the Helios and the same adapter. Took me awhile (after searching on Youtube) to work out that I had to first put on the adapter, then the lens.
It made it quite a hassle to use then got some advice on this post that we can unscrew the little spring clip, leave it on the Helios (I even used a few drops of glue to make it stay) and treat the Helios as a a normal K-Mount lens. Much easier to use now.

Read this review that the lens is supposedly better at 2.0 - Pentax 50mm f/1.7 SMC-M
I am finding it hard to focus without split-prism - rely on the green hexagon a bit...

Did a bit more searching for other M 50mm f.17 pictures on Flickr and it looks like what I'm seeing on my side is normal then, ie for aperture info not to be recorded in EXIF data for it.
I see that the A 50mm picks that up... That plus being able to use in AV mode might put me into lens hunting mode again :-)

Silly question but how do you get the aperture info recorded in your EXIF data ? My shots with my M 50mm f1.7 always show up as f/0.0. Am shooting on manual mode with aperture set on f1.7 normally.
Example: EXIF data link
Noticed the same thing with shots from my Helios in manual mode as well.
