Is it possible that your configuration that was causing slow display, and consuming compute cycles, could also be significantly increasing your battery usage? Just a thought.

I don't know whether this is relevant, but I used (still do) have the same problem, and after some (a lot) of troubleshooting, I found that at the moment of depressing the shutter my hand would move a little, to the right and down, and thus rarely had any precisely focused pictures. I would suggest that you use some sort of a brace (tripod, monopod, bean bag on a fence post, etc) to see if it helps cure this issue. If it does help, then try to practice on a static object, with poor light and slow shutter speed, till to get into the habit of not moving the camera when taking a photograph. I have still not mastered it, but since I have started to do this at home, my keeper rate has gone up.
Hope this helps!

You would need to install Stuffit Lite, as the .sit is a compressed file from that application. Please do a search and you should be able to find it on the web. It used to be shareware/freeware for the expander, though I can't be sure as I have not used a Mac in a lot of years.
Hope this helps,

Dave,
I think *ist D is the only model of Pentax DSLR that has a coin battery in the bottom of the body, by the tripod attachment. Please open that and put a new battery in and see if it fixes your problem. This battery was put as a feature so that the settings for time and other custom menus were not lost during battery change or prolonged period of storage.
Hope this helps!
Best regards,
