The results of my first round of Ilford XP2 and my Super Program with a 50mm A-1.17 lens. The first is of my wife, the second of a good friend with his son and daughter and the third is of Beacon Hill in Boston.

Now to try out my newly Hendrickson'd MX!

Thank you, Javier. Yes, that is my wife with her mother and our daughter to be under the bump! Three generations in one picture, so to speak...I will keep note of the contrast and post the results of the Super Program.

After a long hiatus, I got back into film photography recently (had a P30t in art college back in the mid 90's) by picking up a K1000 and loading it with some TMAX 400. Here are some of the results. Since then, I've picked up a Super Program (which I'm currently using), an MX and an ME Super (both on their way to Eric for a CLA):

Super Program Longevity

Thanks to everyone for your comments. I was a little worried because there is some (what looks like) slight crystalization in the bottom corner of the right LCD in the viewfinder. Like I said, a roll of film will determine how everything's working. I'll be sure to post images once they're done.

New to the forums. However, I've been a lurker for a while and briefly introduced myself in the Intro forum a couple of weeks back. I've been using my newly purchased '83 vintage K1000 and have been having an absolute blast with it!

Anyway, after a week of buying lenses (it's becoming an addiction already), among them another SMC M 1:1.7 50 mm in mint condition from Craigslist, a nice SMC M 1:3.5 135 mm from a fellow forum member and best of all, a Super Program in mint condition with an SMC A 1:1.7 50 mm lens attached to it from the Goodwill store in Boston for $40! Even has the original Pentax red logo strap...The mirror foam and door seals look good with no sticky residue on the inside edge of the film door. After replacing the batteries, all appears to be working and I'm quickly falling for this little piece. It's just the right size, is a great looker and has the handy hand grip. We shall see if it performs after throwing in a roll of b&w.

My question is, what is the expected longevity of the LCD display? The readout on this example seems fine but if it does fade out for whatever reason, should the camera be thrown away or would it be feasible to have it repaired?

Thanks for the welcome, guys.

I guess I'll leave the lens as it is and just get started by enjoying the whole setup. The only downside to the bend in the outer ring (it's about 1cm long) is that I won't be able to fit a lens cap on to it and as a result, the battery will run down...

I don't think I'll employ the method you did, Carl. From here on, I'll use what's left of my mind for learning how to take some nice images!

Glad to finally be part of this forum. It's been very helpful in helping me choose my 'new' Pentax K1000...
Originally learned the basics of photography and developing in art college in the UK back in the mid 90's with my Pentax P30t. Such a great starter SLR that I sold three years later to buy some weed (like an moron).
My wife and I are expecting our first child in five months and I decided that I would like to archive her first years in glorious b&w film, so I decided that a working K1000 would fit the bill nicely. After scouring Craigslist, I secured a beautiful example with all working components (no chips, dings or dents / foam looks good and even the light meter works) in its original Pentax case with a SMC 50mm M1:1.7 lens. All for $60, which is about average, I suppose. The only flaw is that the very outer edge of the lens is bent in slightly. Does this render the lens useless? It seems to work beautifully. Any advice as to what one feels is the ideal lens for portrait shots with this camera would be much appreciated.
I'm looking forward to getting started and hopefully showing off some work soon!
Gavin
