I'm no longer a Pentaxian but given what the OP is doing and what his needs are, IMO he's best off staying put with Pentax. Switching systems can be very expensive, especially when you go through a few systems. If you're shooting action, that would be a different story.
OTOH, I'm not into flash photography, and perhaps there may be some benefit with another brand. However, even with that in mind one still has to consider the 645z. That's one of the best cameras for the OPs line of work.

I have plenty of experience with OVFs and EVFs. The screen on the GR when turned up is pretty decent--even in direct sun. I can read all the menus and see all the settings without having take cover or shade the screen. I can see everything in the frame--complete with color and contrast--all of this without problem, and my eyes are far from perfect.

I should know better than to ask you anything... but what exactly has that to do with this thread........... which is about AF................ NOT video!

Okay, that is really bizarre. They didn't say what is wrong with the lens assembly or why it needs to be replaced? I bet that accounts for the lions share of the $800 estimate. Maybe they confused your work order with someone else's.

Here you go again parroting more nonsense. I'm not going to entertain a conversation with an autistic robot.

No, according to Jordan at the Camera Store it is because they have yet to get their hands on a V3. But when they do, they will run it through its paces.

OUCH! That makes an extended warranty look like a pretty darn good deal.
A used X-100 is only worth $500 - $600... so I'd call it a write off and console myself that there people who have suffered bigger losses.

Yes it does, which makes it much faster than the X-T1, E-M1, A6000 and GH4.

Come on, Joe. None of those cameras--not even the best one of the lot (D4S)--can do 20 FPS with AFC. Give it up already!

It's better to think than parrot! We're talking about the fastest AF and that's the best argument you can come up with?

#1 You're comparing stills against video.
#2 Regardless the V3 is a 3 year old technology vs the GH4 - a current camera which costs $1700 almost 6X more money.

A shot in focus is much better than a high resolution shot of a missed opportunity. Enjoy your slow nothing.

Yawn... The V1 (three years old) will catch 60 FPS raw at full resolution.

Hey man, whatever works for you. You come across like a Sony shill--I couldn't care less about how popular it (or anything for that matter) is with the sheeple. Call it a 'game changer' or whatever makes you happy, but it's still a small camera with a small sensor that can't reach beyond 70mm. $900 is ridiculous. I'd rather have the option to buy it without the VF for $350-$400 less.

They can call it what they want, the bottom line is $900 is way too much for a small camera with a small sensor that has very limited telephoto range, especially in view of the fact that there is a plethora of far better and more capable cameras for much less money.
As for the Sony A6000, as nice as it is, emount lenses vs Fuji lenses? No contest.

Are those two things enough to justify the cost when a superior camera can be had for less than half the price with a sensor that is 3X larger?

$900 in Canada!
For that much money you can buy not just one... but two... TWO Fuji X-A1 cameras! AND still have a $100 left over.

Hats off to you for having the courage to open your camera and figure this out. And while your instructions are very clear and complete, I'd still be a little apprehensive about going in there and doing it first time. Fortunately I do not have a dust problem for the time being.
I wonder if there is a modification that we could come up with to mitigate future problems?
Thanks again for taking the time to post this. It will be of tremendous value and help to the GR community.

That really is tracking. Nikon 1 doesn't need a half press, unless you're in low light.

I looked at the GM1 before buying the GR. Ergonomics on the GM1 are horrible--BIG turn off. Attach a lens to it and the little camera ain't so little anymore. A GR is far more pocketable, complete with a much bigger and better sensor. The lens alone is worth the price of the camera.
