One place that's on my bucket list and just within your range at 48 mi. is Bannerman Castle. The Ruins of Bannerman's Island ~ Kuriositas
If not, I would seriously consider crossing the Hudson and heading into the Catskill Mts.

To Ash
Have you tried flipping back and forth between a blowup on your dash board and your gallery shot? This is where I noticed the difference.

I just searched out this thread because I just noticed the poor quality in my last two approved images. To add insult, I see that the image quality seem to be rendered properly on my dashboard but not in my gallery.
I followed jpzk,s lead and opened a flicker account last night only to see that they have far superior resolution, as does panoramio.
I can only say that I won't be sending anymore PPG links out until this issue has been rectified.

This is news?
This is scandal?
I can't believe a journalist wrote this up or that an editor allowed it to go to print.
Bad journalism about a non issue IMO
Slow news day I guess.

Well, I've just checked out the Panoramio layer on Wikimapia and see a place called Natural Bridge Caverns located about 20 miles north that look kinda interesting.

I was asked to video a funeral a few years ago by the daughter of the deceased. I was a little surprised that someone would want a record of such a solemn event, but she was a close friend so I agreed.
I felt extremely awkward and more than a little embarrassed, but had to remind myself this wasn't about me.
We should keep in mind that on their best days there are many people don't like to be photographed, let alone on an occasion like this and there will probably be a few disapproving glances from those that don't appreciate being photographed as well as those that think it's in poor taste.
My opinion is that it is not appropriate to shoot inside the church unless requested by the family, if only for the consideration of others.
Outside the church, before and after the service, I think is more acceptable.
I'd say that the most important thing is to check with the family first.

I think they've lost control at ppg. I just started voting again and I know that I've already voted on these images.
I also thing that when they thought of improving the old site, the folks at ppg should have heeded the old adage.....
DON"T TRY TO FIX WHATS NOT BROKE.

I don't know why they were there, but they were. Some kind of glitch I guess.
So far I've voted on four of my photos that I uploaded before the site closed down for the summer. I know their the old ones because I gave some of the new uploads of the same image.different titles.
I assumed that since they were no longer in my "waiting for approval" line-up, that they were lost.
Ps. My old photos didn't seem to loose any sharpness.

The good thing about the new voting page is that the cursor stays hovered over the thumbs down.
The bad thing about it is that I almost gave one of my earlier submissions a thumbs down.

I just got to vote on one of my photos that I uploaded before the old ppg shut down even though it wasn't carried over to my photo gallery's pending page.
That ain't right.

Tried to upload 2 images this morning and got the message "Could not add this photo to the gallery" even though I uploaded 2 yesterday from the same file with no problems.
I've also been voting as much as possible since I'm sure there,s a huge backlog, but I have to say that the black borders really detract from the images and are starting to get on my nerves.

I think you did the right thing in not reducing yourself to his level, however I do think you should press charges. Guys with his attitude and violent behaviour have and will do it again unless civic minded people try to stop it. If he gets off, so be it. At least you will have done what you could. If he does it again, and he will, I have no doubt that the next judge will not be so forgiving.

It's sad to hear that the last of those that fought in "The war to end all wars" have finally passed on. Their first hand knowledge will now only be read about in the history books.
Years ago, I had the honour of knowing and doing odd jobs for the longest living WWI pilot, Henry Botterell. While doing small jobs around his house I was able to pry some of the stories of his exploits over France in his Sopwith Camel.
Fascinating stuff.
Here,s some info on him...BALLOON BUSTER |

The problem, in my mind at least, is that people won't buy what they don't know about.
To be honest, If I had not been a Pentax user for the last 35 years, I would have gone with Canon or Nikon simply because I would go with a reputable company rather than an obscure one.
Entry level users don't buy photo magazines, and if they don't see Pentax advertised on billboards or TV they won't even check out how reputable Pentax is.
On the other hand, if they did advertise, the prices would probably go up (in the short term at least)
In the suburbs of Montreal, Best Buy & future Shop carry Pentax, but virtually no lenses. Weirdly enough, the best prices I've found are from my local photo shop 'Photoco', but they don't keep Pentax lenses in stock either simply because they can't afford to have them sit on the shelf.
In all, I'm content with Pentax being kind of unknown, as long as the company stays afloat. I stopped keeping up with the Jones' a long time ago. I know the quality is there, and that,s all that matters to me.

I had similar feelings about 20 years ago when a work associate got back from vacation and pulled out 3 packages of processed photos. The colours in his shots were truly amazing and his ratio of good, to bad shots were well above most of my photo excursions. When I asked what type of camera he owned, I was devastated to find out he used Kodak disposables. :(
I know exactly how you feel, but for me, it's nice to know that with my DSLR, the image quality is there if/or when I may need it.
But that,s just me!
