exactly this precious memories are priceless. and i even thought in this situation that i would be ok with the loss of my equipment if i only can get back my photos.

Loading pictures up is really an alternative and i'll do this when i can afford another camera.

my girlfriend was queuing to buy tickets. i was waiting a few meters away when the woman behind her started to do something to her. in this moment someone grabbed my shoulder-bag, one of the 3 bags I was carrying. because many of this thieves using razor blades i was only thinking about my girlfriend.
a few hours later another try to rob us in the metro. when i discovered it no one in the metro could help us. we only tried to leave the metro as fast as possible.

the rest of our Greece trip was great. we only had some things to criticize. only athen is of course from experience a really unsafe place and we will avoid to go there ever again.

on the last day of our trip through the greece islands and almost 2000 pictures.. someone stole our k-x including fa 35, m 50 and a brand new sigma 10-20. the worst part is really our pictures. i wish i could only get them back.
i had my k-x for almost 1 year and half and loved this camera! i took over 20k pictures with it and only a few where deleted.
i've never used such a great low light capable camera and in combination with the fa 35 i always got tak sharp pictures even wide open.

now i'm back to my aged p&s fuji and i don't know when i can enjoy this level of taking pictures again :(

for everyone else take care of your camera equipment and never get robbed!

Pentax DA 12-24mm purple fringing monster? correctable?

i've checked the exif data of this samples and it's true most of them where shot below f8 (but most of them one stop below) and between 12-16mm. in terms of usability this means i should avoid using it's wider end on bright days or stopping it down if possible.

thanks jeff for the tut how you manage the CA with this lens. what about the lens profiles in adobe's new camera raw?
i saw i short movie how these lens profiles could correct most of the lens CA and distortion. i wonder how this works out for this lens because this would be a one click action.

this is the only area where the sigma beats the pentax and i still prefer the pentax because of it's longer end.

there is some talk going on about the Pentax 12-24mm and i although thought about buying this lens. i read all the reviews and i know it's weakness is purple fringing.

in these reviews they always point out that it's easily correctable in post processing. so i looked at many pictures taken with this lens and almost every picture with some harsh contrast shows massive blue, green and blue fringing.

i attached some findings.

i tried to correct them in Lightroom3 beta but failed to completely remove them or keep the quality good enough. anybody can tell me if it's possible and if yes how?

is this Rikenon 200mm worth carrieng around?

thanks reeftool and riorico for your thoughts.
the weight is exactly my main motivation to find a replacement for this 1kg Rikenon.. it's a fun to use lens but if it comes to bring it along to a trip a 300g Pentax would be a big improvement.
my only question is if a Pentax 55-300mm will surpass my old Rikenon or if i would get "only" similar results?

what is a macro-tube extension?

or should i buy a much lighter Pentax 55-300mm?

i have some really old M42 lenses and this Rikenon 200mm/3.5 is one of them. it's the first time for me using something longer than 100mm so i can't compare the results.

here are some test shots handheld at ~f5.6 and some of them through a window. the camera is a k-x.

would a Pentax smc DA 55-300mm a big improvement over this lens? (beside AF and longer end)?

First Prime Lens for new Pentax K-x User

i got my first prime after a month of checking which fl i use the most. its around 28mm - 35mm so i decided to get the pentax-fa 35mm.
this lens is such a big improvement over the kit lens because it's wider aperture helps significantly acquire focus in available light situations. so if you need a prime which is faster and wide enough to use it as a walk around lens i would choose this lens.
i got mine a week ago for 300€ not cheap but far away from the expensive 35mm macro...

using the Sigma 15mm as a super-wide prime

Hello Forum,

last year i bought a k-x and after my first trip with my k-x and the default kit lens i decided to get 2-3 primes which will cover my most used focal length. the first lens i got is the Pentax FA 35mm which is really nice for shots of people and objects.

now i started to look for a super-wide and looked into the existent Pentax offers.
the 15mm, 21mm and 14mm.
i like the compact size of the 15mm but a min f4 is not perfect for me. the 21mm is not wide enough for me and the 14mm is to heavy (like the super-wide zoom options) and the reviews of this lens don't look very promising.

than i found the two Sigma Fisheyes 10mm and 15mm. i know the 10mm is for the crop sensors but i like to have a less prone fisheye effect which is if i want to easily removable. the length 7cm and weight of 330g is acceptable.

the Sigma gives a FOV of ~98°
after 80% RectFish i get a FOV of ~85° which is pretty wide.

i took some sample shoots with the Kit Lens @ 18mm and the Sigma 15mm.

my question is there anyone who has some experience with this Sigma Lens and particular with defishing some of the photos? so using it as a super wide Lens?

bye
