For those of you who drop your cameras. I have mine and the lenses covered under my homeowners insurance. If i remember correctly, the deductible is ~75 dollars. I highly recommend it or renters insurance coverage if you have not considered it.

Get Me To A Shuttle Launch!

I lived in Orlando back in the mid 1990's.

I used to go to the coast for every launch.

I second that Titusville is a super place to watch the launch from. There are even a few hotels in Titusville, but if I remember correctly, they raise there rates quite a bit in anticipation of the launches.

The night launches are breathtaking!

Kind of off topic. But I remember talking with guys who lived and worked in Orlando during the Saturn V launches. They said that they could actually feel the the ground shaking from Orlando.

That Saturn V is one heck of a monster rocket. They have a Saturn V indoors on its side that you can see in person if you take the NASA bus tour to the space center. The tour starts just outside the actual space center, there is a welcome center with a "rocket garden" and stuff. There are lots of photo opportunities on that tour.

Wow, I've been busy.

I got insurance coverage on my camera. 35 dollars per year for accidental and theft coverage on my Camera and two lenses.

I jumped on Amazon; I ordered a holster case, spare Pentax battery, IR remote control, User guide book thing and a 16gb San Disk Ultra II SDHC memory card.

I think that I am ready to go.

Edit: That insurance coverage is with zero deductible too.

A not too awful deal on a K20D kit via Woot

Wow, that is very reassuring. I see what you are saying about the people judging my pictures.

I am used to posting on an off topic message board that has pretty much zero moderation. People can get quite ruthless under those conditions it seems.

LOL It is nice being back in the civilized world!

lol Thanks. Here is what I think to be the best picture I've taken so far.

It probably won't look all that great to folks. But believe me, I am proud of it after all the garbage I used to get out of my point and shoot/cell phone cameras.

I am thinking of taking a course or two at the local community college to learn how to take full advantage of all the numerous settings/switches on my camera.

Good idea and thanks for the reminder and welcome.

I'm glad you mentioned tripod. I do have an old one that I bought in 1994 for my VHS camcorder. I just dug it out of the closet, other than some cobwebs and dust she is in like new condition.

It is a Vanguard brand. A really nice one too.

haha, :) that is where I got mine. It just arrived to my house last night. I lucked out, they sold out just a few minutes after my order went through.

They have the full warranty through Pentax and the camera and lens are brand new in there respective boxes. It definitely was a very good bargain.

Now if I could just find that pesky Photoshop program discounted that much?

I just got my first SLR camera. A K20d that I am very very proud of.

Fed up with the not so hot pictures coming from point and shoots; I had been looking to upgrade. But then saw a deal I couldn't refuse on a brand new K20d and an 18-55mm Pentax lens.

I still don't know much about how to work it outside of automatic mode. Even then, I am AMAZED at the quality of the photos I am taking.

I've also ordered a 50-200mm Pentax lens for it on Ebay. And from Ebay, I have a Pentax brand D-BG2 battery grip on the way.

Some stuff that I still need to buy, a camera case, flash, and a much larger SD/SDHC card. Presently with the quality/resolution settings topped out, I can only get ~106 photos on my one gigabyte SD card! That isn't really all that bad a problem it seems.
