I'm guilty as charged too. I shot Minolta, then Canon, to Nikon, back to Canon, back to Nikon, back to Canon... then went out on a limb and went with Nikon... and finally saw the light and went with Pentax. I'm home :p
K7 and a whole slew of lenses too. I once saw a National Geographic video were a photographer was talking about gear, because someone was crtitcizing him about it all being about the image and the image only. He said that your gear needs to be fresh and new. And to get the images you need to upgrade. I don't think he meant switching systems as many times as me... but oh well. I have fun buying new gear. Shop-a-holic... probably... but it sure is fun.

They print articles, but not all favorable ones. They seem to be a bit biased toward Canon.

Hi CWyatt,
Last year Popular Photography Magazine put out an article about this. If I recall correctly there was some danger in putting 3rd party batteries into the camera. Had to do with voltage regulation. The other thing I do remember is though is during charging. Third party batteries can become overheated and explode during charging, ruining your charger or even causing a fire. Best bet I would say would be to use the factory batteries or atleast a name brand like Duracell, Rayovac, or Energizer if you are useing AA's. If your camera were to get fried and you sent it in for a warranty repair or even be repaired by Pentax, using an off brand battery may void your warranty, or they may say...too bad should have used a Pentax battery.

I would go with a DA 15mm f/4 Limited or a 50mm f/1.4 or 1.7. The 15mm is a great lens cause it is wider than what you have now. The 50mm with the wide open f/stop will let shoot higher shutter speeds in lower light. You may also want to consider the limited 40mm f/2.8 or 35mm f/2.8 macro. Both will allow lower light shooting with hight shutter speeds with a slightly wider angle than the 50mm. The 35mm macro will also allow you to get in to your subject very very close.
Good Luck

I heard this about a year ago that Nikon was developing an "X" format. A medium format sensor in a smaller frame body. Much similar to what is out now. I also heard that they were developing specialized lenses for them also. Again rumors abound. Either way medium format sensor cameras, you are looking at well about $12,000+ each. Thats a really low estimate. Doesn't Leica have one out now? I think it's $25,000 for the body. Too rich for my blood.

I use a D300 at work because I have to, and have been doing so for over 2 years. I use a K-7 on my spare time because I want to. The menu on the D300 is very indepth and difficult. The K-7 is way much easier and explains everything much better with out having to push a (?) button to find out the meaning of the setting. Yes there is such a button on the D300. The one thing I do like about the D300 is the two button (format). You can format a card is seconds with out having to go half way through the menu to find it like on the K-7. But thats only one thing. I had to train over 20 people on how to use the D300. That meant I had to learn the ins and outs of the camera very well. The abosolute thing I noticed is this. The K-7 takes all the best things of Nikon and all the best things of Canon and melds them into one body, excluding all the gimmicks. Does this sound like a sales pitch? LOL The K-7 makes sense and is user friendly and would recommend it to anyone. I have not had the pleasure of working with other Pentax bodies, but is they are anything like the K-7. I would recommend them too.

I've had my K-7 about 3 weeks and I will tell you.... it's gonna be hard to replace perfection. Pentax took all the good stuff from all the other camera companies and put them in the K-7. And left out all the crap. I know Ive shot with Nikon, Canon, Sony (defunct Minolta), and I must say this camera makes sense. Someone wrote that Pentax doesn't change up cameras like others do... thats true. Look at Canon... (no offense Canon users) but, If you buy one you are automatically in the camera of the month club. They seem to come out with a different model every month. I do believe however the 645D will make the appearence.
