Thank you for your answers.
It seems that Digixo is actually discontinuing the sales of the Pentax brand.
Pentax is becoming very exclusive!

Digixo.com, an establish French reseller, limits the purchase of the Pentax K-3 Mark III to one unit per customer as "the product is end of life"
Any confirmation of this?

I don’t get the rationale behind those video interviews.
Very lengthy, not translated into English except subtitles, no clear specification sheets and no ETA for the new products.
Let’s wait for some more serious material.

I had my SDM 50-135 repaired twice.
The motor seems to be under-sized for the lens and so tends to over-work.
As I claimed this was a defect, Pentax only invoiced me part of the cost, either the service or the parts, I can't remember.
Try moving the focus first manually, and then with the motor. Maybe the protective joints are getting harder when not used for a time.

I like pictures 10 and 13. They give a glimpse of the city and a unique perspective of the cathedral. Very nice shots!
Now, I'm not a big fan of over-processed pictures.

The K-30 price tag is close to the K-5 price, after discounts and cash-backs due to K-5's EOL.
The K-5 has an additional LCD on the top which provides the most used information, as speed, aperture, ISO, ... No need to use the screen on the back.
I usually buy the model before the last one. The two main benefits are: lower price, strong feed-back from users.

I currently own and use a K-5 and I can't see the differences and improvements brought by the K-30.
The K-30 seems to be a derivative of the K-5 with boosted protection against rain. I hope it features some improvements over the K-5.
Personally, I don't like the curvaceous design, nor I liked the bulky K-01.
We should wait for the new line-up to assess the consistency of the new Pentax dSLR range.

Surprisingly, the DA 1.4x converter has drop the SDM.
As road-mapped for 2013 or later, it could change and even vanish...

The first impression when switching from a K-7 to a K-5 is the lack of surprise. I felt as I hadn't changed my camera: I was at home!
Nice point, all the gear I used with the K-7 is ready for the K-5, lenses, accessories and flash.
The ergonomics of the K-7 were excellent, but Pentax pushed them even further, refining some details on the K-5.

Nice question ;)
No. My cameras don't have names.
The only device with a name is an answering machine built by Siemens. Because its strong German accent when speaking French, I called it Frida.

Photography is back on my website!
The Pentax K-7 was a great camera but had some flaws. I' was looking for faster AF, better sensibility and reduced noise. All reviews I've read about the K-5 were positive on those points.
Combining the Pentax 100 € cash-back program, a 10% discount from the reseller and a fair price for my former K-7, I decided to update my dSLR for a Pentax K-5.
As usual and as I did for the *ist, K-10D and K-7 as well as for the SDM lenses and accessories, I'll share my discoveries on an on-the-go basis. Stay tuned!

Even at $450, the price-tag makes sense when compared with the price of any DA* SDM line-up lens, priced more than twice if not thrice that price!
High quality 1,4x converter at $450, ok for me.

Hi!
I'd rather prefer a 1,4x TC with DA* high quality and SDM compatibility.
Acceptable price would be around US$ 300.
The DA* SDM lenses offer superb quality and f/2.8 f/4 apertures, so one or two f steps wouldn't be a problem.
The lens roadmap circa September 2009 did include a TC.

Bonsoir,
I stay with my one year old K-7. I've still many things to discover and much fun to enjoy.
Don't forget the learning curve with new gear.

+1 for zackspeed :)
The DA* SDM lenses with large apertures 2.8 and 4 are perfect for a converter.
Wait and see

Yes, let's hope for a SDM-compatible converter  It'd match the fast DA* lenses perfectly and provide extra zoom :)

Really strange
A 25-350mm lens has a zoom range of 14x, which is far superior to the commonly accepted limit of 4x for quality lens, and thus IMHO :hmm: incompatible with the DA* branding.
I'd rather prefer a 1,4x or 1,7x SDM-compatible rear converter so I could take extra focal length out of the DA* 50-135 and DA* 60-250 great lenses :).

Bonjour,
Very interesting surview :) Congratulations to the Pentax forums team ;)
I realise I've checked each of my DA* lenses as preferred lens. Sorry :o Among the 3, the DA* 50-135 is the one I prefer.
Something I'd waiting for is the the DA 1.4X rear converter SDM  Pentax announced in the lens roadmap in 2008 but disappeared :( after the Hoya takeover. A 1.4x rear converter perfectly suits such fast lenses as the DA*.

Bonsoir,
My buying strategy is to - buy every second generation of camera
- wait after the 6 first months in order to have enough feed-back
- and / or buy the previous generation when a new one is launched
I had a K10D, didn't change for a K20D, and waited till the K7 was fully reviewed and below the EUR / USD 1,000 price-tag. I also monitor the used cameras market to sell the previous one: I usually get 40~60% of the initial price.
The K7 is really an excellent camera, with high picture quality and many, many parameters to play with.
Remember the camera is only part of the cost: don't forget about the lenses. The K7 deserves DA* lenses, so lenses have to be planned along camera.
Best regards,

Hi,
I got one of the 1st DA* 50-135 2.5 years ago.
I've experienced strange behaviour on my DA* 50-135. When connected to the Pentax K-7, it doesn't respond to AF.
It takes up to 2 minutes to have it fully operational with the SDM. I've cross-checked with my other lenses: both the DA* 16-50 and DA* 60-250 work instantly.
So I sent my DA* 50-135 to be repaired. Verdict is the SDM motor needs to be changed :hmm: Total cost : 300 EUR / USD
This is very disappointing for a prime lens  . According to many forums, it seems to be a common issue.
