If you want to go really wide, try one of the .22 Opteka adapters. I got mine from eBay for about $31USD. Still experimenting, here's an example. It will screw right onto your existing kit lens

Wein used as a lightning trigger?

This I do at night. What I want the lightning trigger for is durring the day. Your method would lead to greatly over exposed pictures for daytime shots.

Wein used as a lightning trigger?

That was the method I was thinking of using too. Sounds like I'm thinking along the right path.

This sounds too obvious to work. That's why I posted to the forum. Someone has to have tried this before me. These Wein slave triggers have been around a long time. Is it maybe that not until the last few years have we had a direct, simple access to the camera's shutter through a simple wired switch?

Winter thunder storms in Indiana is a rare thing. This might take till spring before I can get a decent shot. I'm hopeful though.

Disapointing storm didn't make any lightning at all :(

Thanks Lowell for the direction to the older posts on the mini plug wiring diagrams. I'll still put this idea together and test it out next storm. I really want it to work in the daytime so I can get lightning in landscape shots.

Meanwhile, if anyone has any suggestions, comments, let me know.

Transfer photos from SD card to iPod?

I bought earlier this year a device called an iAlbum. It was supposed to do just what you were asking by plugging into the bottom of the iPod. Mine would load a few pictures and then lock up. Wouldn't recomend one. Not even sure if it's made anymore.

I've found the best device is a "photo bank" style device. Basiclly a laptop hard drive and a card reader built into one that runs of a rechargable battery. Bought mine through ebay from a seller in China. It came with no hard drive. I had an older laptop that I scanvenaged the 40 meg drive from. Works great so far.

I had an idea today while hearing that in my area, there was going to be a thunder storm tonight. Not sure what made me think of this.

Could a Wein Slave Trigger be used as a lightning trigger if you converted the pc sync output to a stereo mini plug to plug into the sync jack on the Pentax digital SLRs?

I've looked at the do it yourself plans online for lightning triggers, and they seem as if they would be a little over my head to make. If no one has tried this, I'm going to give it a shot anyway and will let the forum know what happens.

Just a thought.:D

Print Dryer Instructions?

For those of you who still do your own B&W darkroom processing, or remember how.

I recently inherited a Prinz Print Dryer without instructions. Cat. No. 360-194 Does anyone know or remember how to use one of these? I appears to be in mint condition, preset heat (no control knob), both chrome plates in new well cared for condition, canvas in new condition.

If anyone knows how to use it, or can send me to a site that tells me how to use it, I would be deeply grateful.

Yep, me too, my second.

The first one I had to pawn to be able to fix my car. I found my second at another pawn shop with a Tamaron 80 to 200, Hoya 28, and Pentax 50 1.4. All for $75! Still use it from time to time. Getting all my darkroom stuff gathered up again to do some real B&W home brewing again. How I miss the smell of stop bath early in the morning.:p

photoj and Pentax

The closest I ever got to photoj was being on the school newspaper in high school, but my opinion is: why would you go to great expence and efforts to make sure that your spelling is correct in your own paper, and then risk the chance of seeming really uneducated (or just don't care what other people think?) with your spelling on this or other forums? It would be a pride thing with me.

I like to think that I am a decent speller, but still get beat over the head by my wife from time to time on a text message I sent via cell phone of a word I fudged because my phone doesn't spell check.

IMHO, why is the spelling on this forum, which actually might get you more eyes than your online paper, any less important? In a way, you're still producing print to be read by the masses. I would use the same spell checking programs that you use for your paper to check the spelling of your posts here less we feel insulted by not being worthy enough of a little effort on your part.

End rant.

Does anyone know why Pentax might have left out this M Apature mechanical linkage in the new DSLRs? It would have made the manual bayonet lenses so much easier to use.

Image Quality Digital vs Film

Earlier in this discussion someone mentioned something to the effect of us spending too much time looking at pictures at 100%. My personal experience on this is by trying to submit my first exploration into the digital "stock photo" realm is they forced me to look at my picturs at 100% because that was where they were judgeing the "quality" at, not so much concerned about what the picture subject was, just the "noise or undue artifacts" at full resolution.

Thoes were taken with a Canon i3is. I gave that camera to the wife and bought a k110d because of the frustration. Both are 6mp cameras, but the ability to shoot in raw seems to make all the difference. The Canon would only do jpgs.

Has anyone else had such an experience with the "stock" houses? I have a fondness for all things Canadian, but the hoops that they made me jump through and still not be excepted made me have a bitter taste in my mouth for this certain Canadian agency for a long time after.

I may try again, but they certainly made me doubt my experience of the past 30 years in photography and my eye, but then after I cooled off, I realised that they weren't looking at the "forest", just one of the unhealthy trees in it.

Did you have any luck figuring out the cheap remote? If so, care to share the wireing diagram?
