Will the FA 31mm be my first prime lens? Maybe. I dare to dream i'll be the luck one.

It could just be that I also have blue eyes and a kid almost that age and can't wait to see him look out a train window in wonder at the passing scenery. Well captured. I enjoy the color isolation, really draws my attention to his eye and adds a little extra emotion to the scene.

My wife and I had this great idea. Lets get leashes for our cats and train them to go outside for walks with us. Everest, our black and white very much indoor cat named after Mt. Everest, was not pleased. He acted like we put 10 pounds on his back and wanted nothing to do with being outside or wearing his harness. He was so upset he bit me while trying to take it off of him after we let him back in the house. I look back on the photos from that afternoon and laugh. We still have those harnesses in a closet, not sure why. Those cats are never going to wear them. It was a bad idea.

I went an a week long canoe trip and brought my K7 along. One day it poured really really hard and started filling up the canoes. We had to get out and bail water. I pulled my camera out of its soaked holster style case and handed it to my friend to take some action shots of me bailing water out with a pot. He agreed and immediately tucked it under his poncho to try and take the picture. I said, "You can't take a picture like that." He says, "But it'll get wet and it looks like a nice camera." I say, "Yea, it is, its a Pentax! And this particular one is sealed against the elements, dust, rain and snow." That was the first time I've really gotten it wet since I bought it back in February, and I wasn't scared a bit.

well, I will try my best not to go into the river again, it was quite cold and I was a ways from the camp site.
So, just to clarify again, the K-7 then must have a seal where the lens connects to it to prevent water/dust from entering at the mount point?

I've never owned a DSLR or SLR for that matter. I currently take my photos with a WeatherProofed point and shoot. Most of my photos are taken out side while Backpacking/camping/hiking. It's rare that I've needed the WeatherProofing, but just in case, it does come in handy. I've slipped and fell into a river, got caught in a down poor, got splashed by Shamu, and had some nasty wind/dust attack me. That's really about it. About 90% of the time I probably wouldn't need a WR lens.
What I'm curious about is, what would be in more danger using a K-7 with a non WR lens in one of the above situations: The lens, or the camera body? Or both?
