Some Full-frame shots & thoughts

This thread has inspired me to do some lens hunting from our local C-list & scored a Nikon 180mm 2.8 AF-N for $400. It pairs up well with my D7000 & can't wait to pair it with a (soon to be purchased) D700. It will be lens #3 for me to add to my prime lenses- 35mm 1.8/85mm 1.8/180mm 2.8. All purchased used from C-list. I'll probably stop my LBA with a 50mm. Not really!:o

Refurbished Nikon any good?

Having purchased most of my gears used(Marketplace,KEH,C-list) without warranties & happy with them, I had no reservations with this one. In fact, knowing it came with a (90 days I believe) warranty made it easier. However, photographywise, I wonder if getting into FF would make any difference. I enjoy using my K-x & I think it's very capable, having produced so many wonderful images with it but still feels limited. My wife just gave me the "greenlight" for an upgrade & I'm like a kid let loosed in a candy store :). DWB, how's it been for you since you own a D700? Thank you for all your inputs!

I have been wanting to go FF & after seeing the wonderful samples of pics here, I decided to look for a Nikon D700. I have been patiently waiting for months for it to be available @ the NikonUSA site since it's always out of stock just about anywhere & finally pulled the trigger this morning when it was finally in stock:D. My question is, is it a worthy purchase? Should I wait for the next replacemet in which Nikon will officially announce on the 24th? I'm excited to get my hands on it but hesitant at the same time:o

Pentax K-7 vs K20D for Studio Portraiture

I have been experimenting with studio portraiture using my Pentax K-x & have been generally happy with the results. I'm looking for a 2nd body just for this purpose & save the K-x for other activities ie. walkabouts for it's compact size(perfectly fits diaper bag with the DA 40mm attached cushioned with nothing but diapers & bibs:lol:). I have been looking around for used bodies & pricewise, they're pretty close. I'm leaning towards the K-7 because it's a newer generation(pre K-5) camera. Whereas, I heard so much about the K20D as a good workhorse for this specific task albeit, much older. I still have my K100D Super that my wife uses & love the pictures I get from it. They're different(warmer tone) compared to the K-x. What do you think?

I know, I know my LBA is out of control. Trying to find a good reason to balance my needs vs wants. I'm happy with my DA 40mm. It's just the opportunity is there to experience the beauty of the FA 43mm ;)

Sounds reasonable to me.

Curious as to how it compares to my DA 40mm. I'm eyeing the DA 70mm to add company to it.

The seller priced it at $600 something, emphasizing the MIJ importance as opposed to the newer versions that are Made in Vietnam. Not sure if it's worth paying the extra premium just because it's MIJ.

It's past 3 a.m. & I'm still up:confused: I have a good chance of purchasing 2 Limited lenses, one FA 43mm & Da 70mm, both in like-new condition off C-list. My utimate goal(given my finances), is to complete a trio or so of compact lenses for easy go anywhere/anytime gear. As I already have a DA 40mm, I was inclined just to get the DA 70mm. I have heard so much about the rendering qualities of the FA 43mm & it's very tempting to get both if the seller will work with me in terms of giving me a price break if I decide to get the 2 lenses. Otherwise, I will settle with just the 70mm & continue to lust after the 43mm:(. What's the best price I can offer for each & possibly both? Need to go back to bed & might find some loose coins under the pillow! Thanks!:ugh:

Will ORBIS flash adapter work with my KX?

Mine just arrived today. I must say I'm impressed with the quality of soft light it creates. I have a K-x as well & have been experimenting with strobes. Using the camera's on board flash to trigger my Metz 48 AF-1 off cam, it works although a bit tricky. I don't have the optional bracket to support it, so I hold the flash with the flimsy ringflash on top of it with my left hand while the lens rests thru the provided opening. I find in this awkward position, even after a short period that my right hand starts to cramp. I'm not sure if it's because I'm using a smaller body unable to give me a good grip on the camera. Otherwise, I'm happy with the results

Hello. I have a pentax-A 35-105mm manual lens that I really enjoy using for walks due to its useful focal length. Not to mention being sharp as well. A little bit heavy but I don't mind it at all. I noticed that when I focus on a subject & changes focal length ie. 105mm to 35mm, I have to refocus again. This can be a bit annoying, causing delay especially when you have a moving subject. I don't see this on my other zoom lenses. Is this a normal behavior? Otherwise, great manual lens!:)

Best lens to use for wifey's "D" day

Hello all! I am prepping my gear for the biggest event of this yr & stucked with a dilemna:confused:. My wife & I are expecting our 2nd child & she's due by the end of this month. I have a K-x that hope to bring with me to the L & D room & pretty confident that it will "deliver" taking photos & video as well. However, I couldn't decide which lenses to bring with me. I have narrowed it down to 2- my DA 40mm 2.8 for its compactness & less obtrusive & my Tamron 28-75mm 2.8 for it's zoom versatility but bigger to carry around the already cramp room. This is a special occasion & hope to capture better images as I did the 1st time( I used a P & S ). I hope to hear from anyone who have gone thru this ordeal. Happy New Year!

LOL! She's starting to notice. My best answer to her: "It's still cheaper since we can share/swap lenses." But then again, she hates MF lenses.

Hello to all Pentaxians. I have been a member of this wonderful community since the beginning of the year, but remained a passive participant until now. Before switching to digital, I used to shoot Canon( elan 7e-ancestor of 7D I believe) on & off for almost 15 yrs. When my son was born, I knew I had to make a decision. My wife got tired of waiting for the films to be processed, she gave me the GO signal to venture into DSLR;). I wasn't heavily invested with Canon, so it was an easy decision. Through endless research for the best system for my money, It came down to Pentax eventually. I didn't look back since then. My 1st camera was a K100D Super. Being a discontinued model & cheaper than the current ones, I purchased it primarily to "test" the waters. Soon after, LBA hit me. Within a month, I had a SMC-A 28 f2.8, SMC-A 50 1.7, & a 135 2.8, all for $120. I was hooked! What sealed it was a gem I found at a thriftshop for a mere $2.99. It was a close focusing Vivitar 28mm 2.8. I almost fainted;). My love affair with Pentax has begun. To make a long story short, after more than a year of ownership, I have since added more lenses( 8 MF & 5 AF ) to my collection. I also delegated my K100D Super to my wife, who's starting to enjoy photography so I could have a "valid" reason to get another body;). I have the K-x now & very impressed with it. It's really fun to have your spouse a shooting buddy. Now, my 3 yrs old is showing a keen interest as well. It only means one thing, my gear keeps getting heavier & heavier(add the diaper/food/clothes bag, stroller, food, etc.) Arghhh!
