Yup, I went to Namsan tower as a spur of the moment thing one night. I didn't have a tripod and it was too late to go up the tower also. Most of my shots came out pretty bad except one where I lied flat on my back and pointed up to find this guy.

I took a trip to Japan and Korea about a month ago and finally got around to posting the photos online. Here are a few shots, but you can see the whole set at my flickr site: Japan and Korea - a set on Flickr

I love traveling light, so all the shots were with my K10D and FA 31mm.

Japan is such an technologically advanced society. Even the older generations have adapted to new technology like the Nintendo DS.

I remember it raining nearly every day in Japan during my time there.

Yes, it was raining that day as well. Luckily the K10d is weatherproof.

Luckily, a local bar was never far away to dry off.

Living quarters are very tight in Tokyo.

Candid shot

Korean street food was good, but I'm not sure if it can beat NYC street vendors.

Candid shot

NYC subways have a long way to go to catch up with the more modern systems in Korea.

I'm trying to clear out some of the lenses that I don't use too often. I've sold and bought many times before from the marketplace and have strong ebay feedback as well (ID: winmythingz). All prices include shipping to addresses in the USA and I prefer not to ship internationally. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have and I'll try to respond promptly.

Pictures of the items are posted here: Picasa Web Albums - For Sale

DA 21mm F/3.2 - $390 SOLD- In like new condition and works perfectly. The glass is clean and the body is in mint condition. It comes with the original box, papers, lens hood, lens cap, rear cap, leather case and I will throw in a 43mm Hoya filter that fits on the inside of the hood when you need that extra bit of protection.

FA 35mm F/2 - $285 - EBAY The glass is in perfect condition and the body is in near perfect condition with some very tiny scuff marks on the focusing ring. It comes with the original lens cap, rear cap, hood and nylon case.

F 50mm F/1.4 - $160 SOLD - This is not the FA version, it is the F version and it does have AF. The glass is in perfect condition. There is a small chip on the filter thread that you can see in the picture, but it does not affect image quality or the ability to attach filters. The lens comes with the original push on rear cap and a 49mm vivitar lens cap.

Tamron 70-300mm F/4-5.6 - $115 SOLD - This lens is practically brand new with perfect glass and body. I used it two times on a trip to a state park. I rarely shoot in the tele range and don't think it would receive much use in my hands. It comes with the original box, papers, front/rear caps and lens hood.

Nice photos! Its too bad your trip was so short. I'll be making my way over there at the end of May.

Now... to figure out what glass I should bring.

Yes! I like the expression you caught on the runner's face and how you got up close. Also, the full figure of the runner behind him makes good use of the whole frame. For improvements, it would be nice to have had the face in focus.

Great series and yes, some of these shots are a bit unconventional. That's exactly what I like about them. The soft out of focus shots are awesome, especially #2. Thanks for posting these.

Good all-around portrait Lens ~$300?

I agree that the FA 35mm should fit your needs very well.

- $300 price tag
- f/2 is fast enough for indoor shots
- 35mm is a good range for indoors and outdoors

Here's one indoor portrait of my grandmother and a random street portrait of some guy (NO RELATION)

At the moment, I only have one lens, the FA 35mm. It's fast and fits many applications with a little creativity.

Of course if I was actually on an island surrounded by miles of ocean, I'd prefer a long macro lens for all the bugs and birds.

what lenses are suitable for use with a reverse ring?

Thanks, I try not to crop shots because it makes me want to improve my framing in the future. Rparmar gave some great advice on magnification, but I would suggest not reversing a very wide angle lens since the magnification gets to be very large and also harder to handhold. Additionally, it is difficult to get a lot of light on a subject when you are hovering over it, so slower shutter speeds are another limitation.

Hi Douglas, I used a FA 35mm f/2 the other day to take some pics of a lady bug I saw on my wall. I just reversed the lens on the mount with my hand and physically held it there and prayed that my hands were steady enough to get the shot. The magnification is pretty good with this lens as you can see with the photo below (uncropped).

These other shots were taken with the FA 35mm as well. It doubles as a great street lens!

Hey Bud- it looks like you are really taking advantage of the warmer weather and your new camera gear. I have never been any good at shooting macros, but they always fascinate me when they are done well. The first shot with the fly is simply awesome.

Hi Pat- These shots are really good (the great seats must have helped too!). I'm not sure what the lighting situation was like, but you did well in my opinion. That last shot was good enough for an instant replay.
