Hello, from Haute-Savoie, France, near Geneva.
Not (yet) a Pentaxian. I joined this very active forum some days ago to get information on the Pentax brand of cameras. I have a collection of manual lenses that I use with a (very) old Canon 300D, time to change, and I hesitate between the new Pentax K-x and Canon 500D (or 450D) camera.
Pros of the Canon 500D: I have already some good prime Canon lenses (EF 50/1.4, 35/2.8), adapters and compatibility exist for all my other lenses in manual mode (M42 CZJ and Russian lenses, Zuiko Olympus OM, C/Y mounts Zeiss lenses). Canon full frame 5D MkII is also very tempting but very expensive.
Pros of the Pentax K-x: the K-x APS-C sensor seems better than that of the 500D (at high ISO), RAW with no noise reduction applied, lower price, good compatibility of all K-mount lenses, viewfinder of the K-x is slightly larger than that of the 500D (14.4 vs 13.8 mm) BUT due to registration distance only M42 lenses can be adapted, not my collection of Zuiko OM and Contax lenses, and I have (yet) no good Pentax prime lenses.
Difficult choice, the K-x and 500D (or 450D) are both cameras with a small size, which I love (coming from the Olympus OM series..). What about the K-7 with the same sensor as the K-x or a full frame Pentax DSLR?
Regards,
Xavier
