Hi Hinman,
Since you are selling off your manual focus takumars what will you be using for lenses?
I have switched from pentax to fuji. I'm enjoying the fuji lenses quite a bit but also can't resist using my takumars from time to time.

Hi all,
I bought a WG-4 recently and we are getting acquainted. One trend I am seeing is that many of the photos have blown highlights.
So ... I'm wondering if anyone has noticed the same. And I'm wondering what settings you typically use (both in general and also specific to the blown highlights).
Settings I changed (I think!):
PHOTO SETTINGS
Recorded pixels: 16M
Quality: *** (3 stars)
EV Comp: I've been trying to figure out how to set it to -0.7 and to have that setting "stick" but I haven't figured out the sticky part yet.
Face Detection: On. (I think default was actually Off)
Digital Zoom: Off
Green Button: (I haven't tweaked it yet, but would be happy to hear how others use it)
Sharpness: default ... have you tweaked yours?
IQ Enhancer: I just turned mine off after reading the WG-3 review on this site!
VIDEO SETTINGS
Enable Autofocus: I think default setting was off, which is strange. Turned mine On.
USER: Are you using the "user" feature? I'd like to know how you use yours.

I called Ricoh Support and they have confirmed what you said, Adam. Boxes do not usually have a cellophane wrap, boxes are not "sticker sealed". I loaded a photo per Rimfiredude's link and my shutter count is at 0. Also the camera and accessories seem to be pristine with not greasy paw-prints.
Next step: do a bunch of photos and testing to make sure my unit is decent.
Thanks,
Sam

Hi all,
I bought a camera (wg-4 gps) from Amazon marketplace from a seller located in NY/USA. I am surprised about the packaging: the clear wrap on the outside does not look like factory wrap, nor is the box sealed.
So I think I probably have a used/returned camera.
Does anyone know how Ricoh compacts are usually packaged in terms of the cellophane wrap and the box seals?
Also, any way to check something like shutter counts etc to see if it has been used?
Thanks,
Sam

Nice bunch of bikes. I'd have fun riding any of them. Nice shots, too.

Good to see you making a post, Ira. Hope things work out for you. I'm still on my K-x and takumars, too, but have to admit I'm plotting a way to get something like a Fuji xe2 or xt1 that would make focusing the takumars a lot easier.
I don't really have any advice on how to use your gear for videos. I've been using my phone to make my family videos, but I should give it a try. It would be interesting to see how the file sizes and quality compares. If the K-x really is in some obscure file format that my computer does not favor, then that will mean extra work and time, which I can't really afford.
Best wishes!

Nice to see a positive comment from someone from the other side of the tracks.
There sure is a lot of whining about Pentax products here.
I bought into Pentax because they offered a nice camera at a decent price, all while allowing me to put some old lenses to use...

I love how the 1st shot is perfectly timed to show you a squished soccer ball. :-)

I have experienced the same issue. Like you, I would back up my photos to various hard drives.
At some point a bunch of my files got corrupted. Very annoying and pretty painful.
I think I have finally managed to hunt down and replace all of the (important) corrupted files.
I wish I knew what caused the corruption in the first place.
Tips:
1. Try using various programs to open the corrupted files. Surprisingly, I saw different results depending on what program I used. Try your IE browser, try windows picture and fax viewer, quicktime pictureviewer, paint, google chrome, microsoft picture viewer, etc. This may help you figure out what your corrupted files used to contain.
2. Cleaning up the mess of duplicate files: ever since the corruption I started accruing bunches of copies of my various drives, and in the end I had quite a mess of dupes to sort through. I finally tried out a program called "duplicate cleaner" by digital volcano. There is a free version which worked so well that I decided I'd happily pay $30 for full version. I can't recommend it enough. It has saved me literally days worth of time to dedupe my files. It lets you dedupe based on the contents of the file (using some fancy hash method) rather than the file name. Side benefit: I have reduced the amount of files on my hard drive by a HUGE amount.
Good luck!

You're probably right ... but I actually like the way those hands kind of loom out of the darkness.
As a matter of fact, I say crop out the rest of him and focus on the hands.

Mike,
wow wow wow, what a terrible story. I sure will think 3 times about not washing little scrapes from now on.
I know punctures from rusty metal are typically associated with tetanus / lock jaw. But I have never heard anything like you described.
I recently picked up the SMC version of the Tak 105. Here's a shot that I am pretty pleased with: |
