That I do understand.
I don't know how else to explain my concern though. But I'll try.
I like to take photo's of birds. So, obviously my lens needs reach. When I zoom up on the bird for a close up, if the megapixels go from the 7 mp quality (which according to training in a photolab, gives you the quality of a 35 mm film print), drops down to 3 mp, would I be able to see the individual feathers?
I can see feathers somewhat with my old Canon SX100 at full zoom (Message). I want to see more clarity on feathers, not less.

Thank you everyone!
The megapixels going down on some of the superzoom camera's concerns me a little, as I do not understand how that would affect image quality. I was told a 7 mp is equivalent to the image quality on a 35 mm camera. So if you go under that, how is it possible the image quality stays good?

Much thanks! Would you post some samples from the x90? I am leaning towards it for it's price. And one big reason is I want the K-x (or something like it) in the next two years. :D

I will watch that Oly for awhile. I have time to decide. My first goal is probably to get a longer zoom then I have/had. Second goal is a K-x. :D
I do like the Olympus Pens, but again I'm replacing a camera that went up to 360 mm, so I want to be as close to that as I can.
Thank you guys. I appreciate all the feedback.
PS. I also keep adding to my list. Example:
Canon s95
Pentax x90 or another similiar
K-x or maybe one of the above and a Rebel xs so I can start learning dSLR and still have a super zoom for birds, chipmunks and kids

I'm a hobbyist, but I do want to be professional good. :D
This spring I'm planning on finally replacing my broken camera. It's a Canon SX100.
I'm favoring a Pentax (if budget wasn't an issue I'd want a K-7 for it's weatherization; or at least a K-x.)
I want zoom for birding and elusive wildlife.
I also want zoom for elusive children. In fact, if I can be far away I'm more likely to get those special shots of joy with out them noticing I'm taking pictures.
But I want to be able to achieve professional image quality.
So, tell me about your point and shoot. I am curious about the X90 and the RZ10 for starters.
Thank you!

you may be able to find some examples in trade publications, like BackStage.
Headshots should look like the person, and is shoulders up. Keep it simple, it's not to show off modeling, just the person.
Here's some tips Obtain an actor headshot.
They are also always black and white.
Hope that helps

ok, will look.
Well, since I'm said student, I would like to get into fine art prints as well as portraits. I was looking at Canon's. I also looked at Oympus. (I've previously used BenQ and Canon for P&S.)
And what do you mean by "profession service support network?"

Well, the K-x is what helped bring me to looking deeper into Pentax. :D
Thanks for the response so far.

If you knew someone that was going to be starting school for a degree in photography soon, what equipment would you recommend?
Let's also say, that said person is interested in birding, chipmunks and other quickly moving wildlife.
Is the lack of weather proofing on the K-x pretty bad compared to the average point and shoot?
Thanks!

Hello! I'm from Michigan, and I'm planning on buying a dSLR and taking some photography classes in the near future. I've pretty much settled on a Pentax (probably the K-x). I am happy to have found this forum!
