Amazing pictures from K-x.. I owned a K-x also and over 30k of pictures, still can't get as good as yours!
Can you share the Custom Setting you used (Bright, Natural, Vibrant, etc) and the saturation, contrast, sharpness etc you used for the sunrise or other landscape photos in general?

Is the color rendition of K-30 any different than K-x? I don't really like the colors of K-x, that's my biggest con for K-x.

Hey mtrick! seems like I found someone else having the same problem!!! I've even replaced the whole monitor unit (~$100 at service center) and still the problem persists.
Did this happen ONCE u upgrade to firmware 1.02? I've downgraded to 1.01 and now sometimes it will show, sometimes it won't. I can't figure out the pattern of the condition and it's kinda frustating. I think I will try downgrade all the way back to 1.00 to try rescue my beloved K-x.
I wonder could this be a Pentax hardware/firmware problem or just individual camera problems..

My K-x monitor will go blank after a period of usage. After resting it for a period of time, then the monitor display comes back. Could it be overheating? Big IF..
Or maybe is it because of humidity as I like to bring my K-x for jungle/outdoor. Could be the sweat from the body that caused the problem? (I hang on my neck all the way)
Failed solutions:
- Service centre replaced my monitor with a new one but seems that isn't the monitor problem.
- I downgraded my firmware from 1.02 to 1.01 and the the problem still persists.
"Bring to service centre". Yes that sounds easy. The problem is I can't replicate this problem to them. I'm not even sure in what condition the monitor will not display suddenly! They might be lucky to have the monitor displaying all the way thru their checkings, thus "looks fine" to them.
What do you guys think?

is the color reproduction of K-r and K-x distinctively different? i think i have issue with color in my K-x (not to say it's not good, maybe to my eyes i don't like the color set)..

From what I get I assume I just need to reinstall normally v1.01 over existing v1.02?
The problem happens a day after I upgrade firmware to v1.02. My monitor screen turned off after I used the K-x to snap photos for a while. Then after some rest, it turned on again, but sometimes after a long rest, it still doesn't turned on. It's a random thing I cannot see any patterns. The other thing works just fine, just the monitor can't be turned on no matter what buttons I pressed.
I've actually replaced the whole monitor at service centre, but the problem still there. Of course I would like to return it to service centre, but it's far from my place and very inconvenient.

I think I have problem with firmware v1.02. Since I upgrade to v1.02, my monitor problem cannot display. But then sometimes can. I've sent it to service centre to fix and replace the monitor, but the problem still arises. So I guess my desperate step is to downgrade to firmware v1.01.
Can any sifu guide me how to do this? I don't want to send to service centre as it's not convenient for me.

After upgraded my K-x from 1.01 to 1.02, my LCD now not showing anything sometimes. Sometimes the LCD is ok, but most of the time it broke down. I still can take photos, but just that I cannot see the LCD.
I wonder if anyone faced this problem? How can I revert back to v1.01?

am using Pentax K-x with Tamron 18-250mm (yaya i know its a cheap lens but have to live with it)..
when compared to the photos from my friend's Canon 550D, K-x output color seems a bit bland.. even if i increase the saturation, somehow the colors tend towards more dark-ish colors rather than striking colors..
so what Custom Settings (Bright, Natural, Portrait, Lanscape, Vibrant) and its settings (Saturation, Hue, Contrast etc) are recommended to make K-x photo colors more poppy.. 1) without buying anything 2) without PP (avoid as much as possible)

i try to sum it up.. a zoom lens with at least 6x and same if not slighty better IQ than 18-55mm..
i dont really favor changing lens as i always on the go, usually at adventure places like mountains, forests, waterfalls, u get the idea..

i did know that 18-200mm image is tad worse than 18-250mm.. but the price! it's about USD180 difference in my country.. $ always the dilemma:ugh:
16-45mm/16-50mm/17-70mm/etc not long enuf.. i need zoom at least 100mm above.. sigma 18-125mm i also have considered but hmm..

I've a DAL 18-55mm kit lens that came with my Pentax K-x and now looking for an upgrade.. normally I shoot landscape photos (mountains, fields, lakes) but occasionally I need that superzoom to capture far objects..
The most important thing I really wanted to know is the image quality comparison between the 2 lens (if someone has side-by-side comparisons I will be very grateful!)
I'm NOT looking at other lens, coz it's totally OUT of my budget :(
so question.. to keep Pentax DAL 18-55mm or get Tamron 18-200mm? A side-by-side image quality comparisons will really helpful for me to decide straightaway

my k-x has a big dust (eraser-leftover like dust) on the viewfinder mirror itself.. the OPPOSITE side of the mirror (not facing inside)... tried to blow using blower, the dust won't go :(
