From my experience dealing with another on-line shop handled by Digital River, I would expect them to indeed screw it... up. :hmm:

Apparently FS is owned by BB but strangely their selection of items can be quite different...
BTW I just noticed that FutureShoph has a pricematch guarantee during the entire holiday season, all the way to 3 January (I assume boxing day sale excluded?).
Could be interesting for people who want to get a K-x right now and still benefit from possible Xmas deals...

Good one!
In Canada we get only the black model... Go figure!

To be fair, we only get short excerpts from the actual discussion/interview. It could very well be that he was replying to a question from the journalist which specifically mentioned Samsung (a natural question given the previous ties).
I'm not saying that's exactly what did or did not happen -- just that one should not read too much into one sentence lifted from a much longer interview...

Another thing that makes little sense (if I may double post here) is that the K-mount, as far as I know, is a mostly mechanical mount. That's sooooo last century! ;)
A micro-APS-C mount is more likely to be mostly electronic.
BTW, although I like the idea of such a system, I would probably not buy a Ricoh, simply because Ricoh doesn't seem to distribute any camera in Canada! :(

Isn't it the same old "rumor" going around the rumor sites (with apparently a period of around 1.5months...)? ;)
FWIW, the K-mount part does not make much sense: the flange-back distance would negate most of the advantage of the mirrorless design. Unless it's "micro-K" mount. But isn't it possible to use K-mount lenses on all "micro-mounts" anyway?

The 18-55 apparently also comes in red (cf. press release on DPReview), but is not shown in blue on the blue body.
Odd.

That's too bad... It's completely relevant to the coming 645D, as mentioned by the OP and 2 replies...

Btw I see that Prodigital2000 seems to have the K-x "just arrived" -- available "Buy It Now".
If you want the black one, that is... ;)

Did they mention anything about which colours they will distribute?
All Canadian stores I looked at seem to sell only the black version...

Samsung Digital Imaging was spun off from Samsung Techwin last February (2009) and is currently a separate company under same ownership.
I'm not sure what RMabo's point is the above post, but according to the linked information, Samsung electronics actually do plan to absorb that digital imaging company. I'm guessing their mobile phone business is much larger than their camera (P&S and dslr) business anyway.
On the other hand, Samsung's communication is not always a model of coherence so who knows what this will mean in practice.

For 6000$ is looks like you would have to purchase an additional digital back.
Phase One digital backs start around 10,000$...

Here is Canada they have 6 models in their APS-C line-up only, from 550$ to 1150$ (MSRP).
This kind-of reinforces the point that there may be some room between the 700$ K-x and the 1600$ K-7... ;)

It seems odd to think that Pentax would be the only major dslr manufacturer to be incapable or unwilling to market more than two models at the same time. (Although Sony may be stretching the segmentation to something ridiculous)
There is plenty of room both price-wise and feature-wise for at least one intermediate model.

...although they had the D/DS/DL for a while, then the K110/K100/K10, and more recently the K-m/K200/K20.
Not sure how these were timed or if this was merely "temporal overlap", but it at least gave the impression that there were 3 lines at various time points.

Well there is the 645D coming at the beginning of 2010. It may conceivably be announced at the end of 2009 and therefore count as a "2009" camera.
A slightly updated K20 (a K20DSuper) could be an idea--the remaining K20's are going for pretty cheap, so a slight update may easily place right between the K-x and K-7.

It would be pretty cool if they had such an event in the NCR.
How much do you think they would trade a DS for?

It's not that bad in Canada. I find that most camera shop carry some Pentax gear, and even futureshop has some Pentax dslr from time to time.
I think you are right that these colourful cameras may be exactly what is needed to get some shelf space.

I suppose the K-x double kit with 50-200 will be somewhere in the middle (850?), making it quite competitive with the other guys.
What is a bit annoying is that Pentax Canada seems quite happy with rounding up to the next $100 when converting their price from USD to CAD...
:hmm:

... and 999 C$ for the 55-300 double kit. Ouch! This is $850 in the US!
If this price is confirmed (also for the other colours), this is pretty good for the single kit though.

Hey, I think I actually saw that precise ad -- it was in a mall in Victoria, right across from a camera shop (Japan photo or something), right?
I actually have a picture of a *double* billboard ad for Pentax that was up in Montreal last year...

Considering the price of an Elmarit 24mm f/2.8 lens alone, it's almost as if they are throwing in the camera for free... ;)

Of course those were Photokina years...
Not much happened (from Pentax) in September 2005 or 2007.
Let's hope this years will be different, but there definitely isn't much of a pattern there... :hmm:
