Thats a great point. Why build a cheap entry level K-x, best bang for the buck on the market? And then turn around to sell only expensive primes?
K-x with DA L lenses are great quality for the money, but doesnt it make more sense to follow up with a cheap prime or two to totally annihilate Canon in the entry level market? For old manual primes canon mount is still more adaptable if youre into various legacy lens collecting.

Canon EF 50 1.8 II has plastic mount. It's comparable to a DA L in build quality.
FA 50's are not plastic mounted, but the other parts feel equally cheap, especially the focus ring but thats probably not the main utility since its AF version. The F series is understandable worse in build quality compared to FA.
I have not tried a FA 50 1.7 lense, but it seemed to have been discontinued due to poor sales. FA 50 1.4 is a better lens than Canon 50 1.8 no doubt about it. But I've seen a lot of quality images posted with 50 1.8, very shallow DOF. I would have bought one if its available in pentax mount.

if you can get a good price for the 50 1.7 its good to sell. they can usually be found with beat up old ME cameras for $10 dollars altogether. The K55 1.8 I have seen goes for a tad more and is nicer, but the super takumar 55 1.8 is rather cool to have and can usually be had for about the same price as a lens cap.

There is a Tokina RMC 17mm wide that goes for $70-80 bucks but that is manual focus fixed focal length and I believe you'll get better value for your dslr with kit zoom.

Let me take a wild guess, U.S. $399 from Prodigital2000 ?
Yes, quite ironic of that. An M 40 here sells fast, rarely goes on auction and I have never seen it in a used store. If so, its gone in an instant.

very intriguing was that this same fella suggested DA 40 for fashion and DA 70 for beauty on APS-C over the FA limiteds.
this may have slightly less pull than a michael jordan endorsement, which costed millions, but nonetheless very interesting.

i had the same feeling when i went thru the novelty of my brand new k-x. everything started to get dusty, i had to buy a lcd protector and wipe the camera every morning to keep it clean. dust seen the viewfinder must be located and extracted.
and then I realized buying a used camera isn't such a bad idea.

The DA 15 has gotta be the sharpest in the center. But what do you do when the subject is not in the center?

Good point. FA 50 1.7 can be an instant mass production hit if it ever comes back. Price it at $100, I'm sure there will be a lot of Pentax converts. But by then everyone will be talking about how much of a crap lens it is and that they want something else cheap.
