Asahi Pentax AP vs Sears Tower 26

Today my Sears Tower 26 arrived. It is in good shape, seems to function on all speeds. Mirror looks nice and the body as well.

See photo of my Asahi Pentax "AP" along side with the Tower 26. Nice pair! I also included picture of all 4 cameras that I have with penta prism and slow speed dial. Tower 26 with Takumar 58mm f2.4, AP with Primoplan 58mm f1.9, S with Takumar 135mm f3.5 and K with auto-takumar 55mm f1.8 in zebra style.

Any info at all about the Sears is much appreciated. Ads, pricing, and how many produced would be very nice information.

In price lists from that time, I found:

K2, MX and ME Super was sold body and then you choose the lens.
LX was sold without view finder.
K1000 had a 50mm f2 as others already has pointed out.

But if you read advertisements from that time, you will find bundles or kits. Such as the enclosed add for "Pentax bundles" from June 1976. In the fall there was even a trade in campaign where you could get up to 1000NOK if you trade in your old Spotmatic including 50mm lens when buying a new KM, KX or K2.

I had a boring and cold winter evening here in Norway.... Digging out flashes, and trying to match with time correct bodies.

Top left to right:
  • Pentax Auto-110

  • Pentax 645 with AF280T on a hot shoe grip, with sync cord B

  • Pentax MX with AF240Z

  • Pentax z1-p with AF-500FTZ

  • Pentax LX with AF400T with sync cord C

  • Pentax Super A with AF130P

Bottom shelf left to right:
  • Heiland Pentax H2 with Asahi Pentax Flash Gun

  • Asahiflex IIb with Asahiflex flash gun

  • Pentax Spotmatic with Super LITE and cold shoe slip-on adapter

  • Pentax Spotmatic II with Super-Lite II

  • Pentax ES II with Autorobo

I have not included my AF160C. Pic taken with K-3, on-cam flash as controller and AF-540FCZ as slave towards an umbrella.

The collection is not complete, but I don't think it ever will be :)

Dear friends,

I have just managed to get a long wanted PowerPack M with most of the cables. But I have not found a user manual for this anywhere. Therefore I am hoping that the forum can help out.

Thanks!

Hello to all Asahiflex users.

It was great fun to take my old camera out for a spin in the sun. I will post some results here when I get the film developed.

Hope more bring the Asahiflexes for shooting. :)

This time a grain loader from the past. Fancy machine, looks more like a creature from a transformers cartoon.
Pentax MZ-S, smc Pentax-F 17-28mm at 17mm. f5.6 1/250sec.

It is a good looking rubber hood, but it snaps on, so risk that it migh fall off during use.

The photos shows the two 35-70 lenses, one AF version and smc Pentax-M version.

I have the Spotmatic MD It wasn't very expensive. I seem to recall that the store in Vienna had the whole kit for sale in its original case. That is more rare.

Nice collection! The K2 DMD could also be had with a data back option. This model is the first that was designed for a motor drive (2fps!) and even a databack. Earlier models required dedicated bodies to support a MD and/or databacks. Examples are the KX and even KM (I have never seen a KM MD for sale).

The camera on the left is an odd camera, MZ-M. It was introduced in 1997, some years after the first MZ (1995) came to market. It is a manual focus camera, very simple. And from my understanding it tried to replace the very successful K1000 (1976-1997!) as a simple entry model.

It was sold at the same price as the K1000, and there were two zoom lenses with manual focus still in the market. To my understanding the smc Pentax-A 35-80 was the standard "kit" lens.

Not sure that I have GAS? What are the indicators I should look for to get the correct diagnosis?

I have finally managed to get that 83mm, and now it has been to a spa treatment and it looks and feels really smooth. With the orignal hood, and the Asahiflex dressed in brown: ready to go!

It has 20 aperture blades.
