On their second try Pentax fixed the problem with non use battery drain. I have taken a couple hundred pics, a few minutes of video and not used it in several weeks. The battery still shows green. I am happy. Thanks to the Pentax folks for making it right. I just wished they had fixed it on their first service. This will probably be the last camera I will buy for a very long time.

After 3+ weeks at Pentax service center. They replaced the main PCB. Put a new set of lithiums in it and I will know in a few weeks. Sure hope this fixed the issue. Really like the camera but the non use battery drain made it almost useless for me. Will keep you guys posted. Thanks for all the input.

Thanks guys for the input. My Kx arrived at Pentax service yesterday 8/20. When I get it back "again" I will check it out and post the results. I really like the Kx but with the current excessive non use battery drain it is almost useless the way I shoot.

I use a camera erratically. I will use it a lot at times then it may sit for weeks before I use it a gain. My problem is the non use battery drain. I had a ist DS for years and it worked great. The K-x (Red) is horrible. It is a great camera to use and the pics are very good. A new set of Energizer Lithiums will last 3 to 4 weeks of non use. They just die with "0" Zero, no pictures taken. A set of Rayovac Hybrids charged with a good LaCross charger lasts about 2 weeks. When I do take pictures I take a lot but then the camera may sit for several weeks. I sent it back to Pentax and they "fixed" it and returned it to me. I put a new set of Lithiums in it and watched it. No pictures taken. In a week it was orange. In two weeks it was red. In 3 1/2 weeks it was dead and would not power on. Again let me point out that no pictures were taken. I only turned it on 4 times for a few seconds. I sent it back to Pentax again yesterday. It is only 6 months old. Anyone else have this problem? I have no idea how many pics it will take with any type of battery. Wish I had my ist DS back.

I have been involved in photography since the mid 70's. I used a Canon ftb with various lenses and even had my own home darkroom where I developed black & white film and printed in black & white and very little color. Got out of it for a few years, except point and shoot, then in the late 80's took the plunge again. I got and still have a Pentax SF1 film camera. Used that until I couldn't hold off digital any longer and got a Pentax istDS Silver edition about 5 years ago. I still use the DS and just returned from a trip to Hawaii which was my wife and I first big trip as it was our 30th anniversary. We are both retired teachers. I join the forum to do a little more research on a new camera, if at all. The more I read here the better my old DS gets. If I decide to get a new KX I will sell the DS. I already have learned so much already about digital photography here. keep up the good work.
