With a sky that's full of more... :(
A bit history about this place and snow, in 1769... Sir Henry (Munro, of Foulis) holds a forest from the Crown by a very whimsical tenure, that of delivering a snowball on any day of the year that it is demanded. He seems to be in no danger of forfeiting his right by failure of the quit-rent, for snow lies in the form of a glacier in the chasms of Ben Wyvis, a neighbouring mountain, throughout the year. :D

I rediscovered this Jackdaw photo from when I was in Ireland in 2013. Taken with the K5iis, and I think the lens is the old SMC DA 55-300.

Early morning sun making streaks across the neighbor's yard caught these ranunculus unfairly.
Some were made bright and shining, others left dark and colorful.
Maybe they didn't mind the unfairness of the whole affair.
As I was appreciating the lighting, the neighbor lady came out with her son (going to school), and all she wanted to talk about was how beautifully they smelled.
All I wanted to talk about was how beautifully the sunlight made them appear.
We couldn't come to a common understanding so I just treated her unfairly and walked away with a picture of her beautifully smelling flowers.
Hope she drove away with her son telling him how some men just do not appreciate true beauty!
:D
Angky
PS: I think we left amicably--with her allowing me to take future shots of things that smell beautiful.

Whether to cleanse themselves of parasites and dirt, or an after mating cleaning and preening ritual, this is common behaviour in these birds. Their legs are powerful, with droplets of spray rising high!

I got to this location much later than originally planned ( 9:30 or so instead of 8:30) - the day started out bright and sunny, but by the time I started to get any real bird photo opps, the day turned, not just cloudy, but dark overcast cloudy, robbing all my shots of bright fun colours........

These birds are beautifully coloured - but the morning suddenly went very dark cloudy overcast, and bleached all the colours out of the day......:mad::mad::mad::mad:

A drake of mandarin duck. For photos like these I'm glad to have the articulated screen so that I don't have to dive head first into a swamp for them :)
The second photo is at 1/160s/f5.6/125 ISO.

My most visited birding spot in Southern California is called Quail Lake in northern Los Angeles county . According to ebird.org. there has been 236 species listed there . It is a small place but I saw remarkable species there.

T took shots of this with my 150-450mm, my 55-300mm PLM, and my 100mm Macro (all Pentax lenses....).
This, as indicated, was shot with my 55-300mm PLM. This lens can be remarkably sharp when shooting at anything reasonably close, and the 300mm reach, and minimum focus distance, plus it being very light and easy to shoot with hand-held, makes it very useful for this kind of shooting. K3P25759_DxO |

I decided to go to Watson Lake this morning to kayak instead of Lynx. I've gotten some decent landscape shots in the past, but the lake is always so crowded that it's hard. When I pulled into the lake, they had the main boat ramp closed for a trail running race. This left only the small boat ramp and there was no one on the lake the majority of the morning. I got some of the really nice golden hours lighting.
