yeah it is strange how they have done it, however after you mentioned it, it does make sense to me, and i can now lock it so its not jumping around, i have taken some better videos with it, i think it should have been better explained in the manual.
thankyou for your replies

"On the gravestone pic - how did you get everything to look so black in the background?"
i used the flash which allowed me to black the majority of the background out, and i removed the last few bits of light with PS, i cloned it for the right black and away i went, but the flash did remove 75-80% of it..

Yeah i did experiment with that, but i couldn't get the right balance of light pictured below.
however it does give an idea about what i was trying to do, you are right there is too much foreground going on but i do like the trees

the above statement is true, full frame should be kept in that bracket for a reason, as if they really did fall into prosumer markets around the world, you can expect very debatable situations based on IQ its possable to have a poor full frame sensor in a cheaper model that would get hammered by a good prosumer slr
what i'm trying to say is that, its like buying a 79.99 1080p movie cam, it IS 1080p but that poor you throw it away as its useless.
So many people get caught like this in these sorts of markets, where its a very mixed usage bracket, when most people buy a camera, they get concerned about what its got, what it does etc etc... when the concern is always image quality at the end of the day, thats one of the fundimental elements to a good camera.
Full frame is notorious for low light greatness, faster lenses, blah blah... and i think it should be kept that way, its almost like the next step to photography, the gate to pass through into professional use, whack that into prosumer markets around the same price as some flagship models we know, and you have just more medium IQ full frame cams that will show no real benifits to increased production/quality/usablility.
Theres always someone out there that tries to get a niche in the market for low price/ high product spec items/tech, claiming great quality
you sooooo get what you pay for
If you go full frame you need 4k
If some one made one retail for 2k, that said it was of similar spec, how popular would it be....very, yet the spec might be the same, the parts might not
then they get home and the faithfull k7/k20/k10 can pull images consistant with it:rolleyes:
they are loads of money for a reason...and thats professionalism
I do though, wish that pentax would go pro, and give us a nice combatent for the 3ds and 1ds
It should be called the K1 IQ with a 25m sensor and full body in retro style, but basic handling, and the usual mega build quality of pentax and it should be 100% in terms of quality, i'd happily wait 5 years for development of that.
It also should be more money then the 1ds and the d3s just for the cheek of it,and i'd still gladly pay it with a smile on my face...please pentax!!!!

Ive just spent the last few weeks trying to participate in what digital Camera's forum and i have to be honest, even though its a british forum (i'm english) i am very very dissapointed in the attitude of the staff editors and writers/mods.
i find it sooooo far away from what we have here in regards to competitions, decent advice, and you just dont get those things there.
I have to commend the staff here and the members for a really helpfull community, and you feel a part of something...
over there you feel the typical british attitude straight away...very lame...and you soon notice that they just cant be bothered to help, talk, or anything..
Pentax forums forever is what i say, and i dont say that about hardly anything.
Also never trust a review from that place they are soooo biased its unreal....nikon everything...nothing can beat nikon attitude...
its a shame as i was hoping for a second forum to lurk at but i will have to cherish the one real good one instead..
thanks and please dont go there its lame...

Any body know how to stop the video from going too dark and light when filming, i know the apature can be set but it flicks from dark to light too often, its always partly underexposed when filming even at 5.6?
Any ideas?
And also does it record better at 720p rather then the higher setting (1.6m)?

thanks for the reply,
well thats the thing, i only have the kit lens at present, on close ups its fine, which is strange (around 1-4 feet) i have no problems with image quality at all at that subject length, and i can max the image size and with a little image sharpen using focal blade i can see every little detail.
its when i do landscapes, with either major tree detail, or rocks and whatever, i have used the camera whilst in the car, (this is strange), and taken shots with the shutter faster then usual say around 350-450 and although stupidly under exposed the remaining detail is very sharp even travelling at high speed. but when either on a tripod or holding stationary, with or without SR on it is really soft, for ages i thought it was the lens as i notice threads describing similar issues, however its like a repeating pattern , meaning, i take 8 shots, and 1 is in focus to my standards, though the settings have not changed, nor subject angle or light.
I have a steady hand and even breath like a sniper to make sure its as good as can be, when on a tripod i use the 2 sec timer to take the shot to make sure a firm shot.
yet trees seem very fluffy, and subjects like rocks which should have a good contrast, fail me and show ghosting and blur..i except this to a degree, but its too regular at various settings to be me...i think..with my k10 its a case of point and shot with the desired settings and boom its clear and its consistant, if i hadnt used that i think i would except it but..knowing what the little k10d does really boils my blood when it comes to the K7.
i'm not giving up, but i need an answer....i feel as though the side focus isnt helping, and i dont know how to do the lens correction bit, i know where it is, but i dont know the operation of it..
a few questions:
1. Does manual focus give some advantages to more accurate focus?
2. Some one suggest a good lens
3. Could the firmware have done crazy things? version 1.2.16
4. Whats foward focus and back focus?
what settings in the menu do peeps leave thier K7 on (eg like high iso noise reduction etc) and af adjustment?
please helpme guys i just want a consistant camera, but i do appreciate it might be me, however i'm not doing anything i wouldnt do on the k10d:o

i'm having issues with my K7, i cant get it constant, i went to the beach today, and i shuttered off many shots at all settings in manual.
i cant get it sharp at all when at 18-35mm, its worse then the 10d in this case, i use a tripod all the time to try and combat it but it still ghosts and blurs, also surely f8 to f16should be fairly sharp, but they are not, 5.6 is really bad.
1. i understand that the kit lens is medioka
2. i know my way around slr's to a enthusiastic level
3. i understand i might not be getting it right too:(
4. Ive tried the SR off as well with no real noticable change
Its a very overcast day with the sun poking through now and again, light was very flat and boring
but its very noticable...heres a shot crop at 100% and on a tripod too :(
Its very blurry and its like it all over the shot, i had SR on and its on firmware 1.2.16
The same here also, and its on settings i feel should be crisp..
is this the lens issue so many peeps talk about?
any help would be good, and its also noticable when not at 100%

I love the pentax build quality, i own a K7 and to be honest its fairly poor in terms of IQ.
i have to say , ive had the k100 super the k10d and now the k7, and i'm struggling to find improvements, well not 500.00 worth anyways, image quality is medioka with a kit lens and although you might see improvements on the flagship lenses, its not ground breaking.
im very disapointed really, i'm looking to get rid of it and start fresh.
i'm not a naysayer or a moody git, just using my intelligence to show this cameras true colours...ive read every review on the web about it good and bad, ive checked out the dxo labs site and checked the specs...
Iso...well the d90 scores 955 in iso performance the k7 scores 570
the dynamic range is below the nikon as well as is the overall sensor performance scoring 62 where as the d90 scores 75 (thats the problem) even the 450d out scores the k7 in two tests and thats an entry camera not a flagship model.
I really want to stay with pentax but i feel its a no hoper
but i dont blame pentax for the camera just the review sites for bigging it up and not informing us of its failings...nearly every review site says its good on iso ranges and an improvement over the previous models, but to be honest its a lie, the k10d beats it in a proper lab test..
We got blagged people...but i guess it's what you feel you can live with, i need quality, i have 20/20 vision and i see every hair on my dog or tree or anything, the camera does not replicate this, and i notice it, and ive been a camera user for around 15 years.
