Absurdly simple DIY K-x remote timer using MP3 player

The Sansa Clip should work as it is advertized to play WAV file. Here is what the manual says: supports MP3, WAV, WMA, secure WMA, and Audiobook files.

Here a link to the manual:
http://www.sandisk.com/media/53255/clip-usermanual.pdf

Beware that in my Ipod, I have to have the volume turned up to its highest setting to make it work.

Let us know if you get it to work.

I have an update to my previous story: IT WORKS!

The answer was very simple. I forgot until today that my Ipod Video (and for that most Ipods) plays wav files. So, I transfered the wav file to my Ipod and BINGO! I am still using the cable made with the parts I listed in my previous post.

First of all, thank you to piesforyou for posting this simple solution. I've looking for something like. So, I am happy you posted it. However, I cannot claim full sucess yet.

Here is my story. The cable works great but I did not used the headphone extension lead. Instead, I first tried using an old headphone with the earbuds removed and two Radio Shack High-Output 5mm Infrared LEDs (276-0143). That did not work, but a narrowed the problem to the cable. So, I made my own cable using a 2-lead cable and Radio Shack 1/8" Stereo Plug (274-0858). I connected the cable leads to the ring terminals of the plug. My cable with the LEDs works very well.

My problem is with the signal player. I do not have a wav player. I have an mp3 and wma player (Zen Nano Plus). I converted the wav file piesforyou posted to these formats. The mp3 does not work from my PC or player. The wma works from the PC but the player. Thus, since I do not have an Android phone or another player, I still do not have a solution.

I hope this story and the part number from Radio Shack helps someone else.

DA lenses and what ever happened with the aperture ring?

All,

I am still newbie in the world of SLR and DSLR. I've shot with a K1000 for many years and last year I upgraded to a K-x. I recently found out that my M type telephoto lens is broken and I am in the market for a new one. After reading lots of posts, I am deciding to go for smc PENTAX DA 55-300mm F4-5.8 ED. However, I do not believe the lens is compatible with my K1000 as the aperture is no manually controlled by a ring anymore. Tamron has a lens (Tamron AF 28-300mm f/3.5-6.3 XR Di Aspherical (IF)) that is advertised as working with SLR and DSLR. However, I think it does not an aperture ring either.

Is not having an aperture ring clearly a disadvantage? Are there any other good performance commercial lenses that will work well with both cameras (any recommendation)?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Metering Issue Using M Prime (Kx)

FYI, I decided to see what is wrong with my lens. I removed three screws on the side of the body near the base of lens. With the screws removed, the lens mount comes off along with the iris. The aperture ring is connected to the iris by a lever. The lever is pulled by the aperture ring in one direction (fully open iris), but a spring brings it back to the opposite direction (closed iris). Either the spring has weaken and not returning the iris to its original position or the friction has increases enough that the spring can not overcome the force necessary to close the iris. Moving the lever manually open and closes the iris without any problems.

Is it worth send the lens for repair or buy a new one?

With the help of Marc and Piesforyou, I found the problem: my lens iris diaphragm is broken. I won't work past a certain f-stop.

The camera is NOT the problems. I am still happy with my K-x.

Thanks for your help guys.

Does anyone have know of instructions on how to repair this lens (TOU/ Five Star MC Auto Macron Zoom 1:4.5 75-200mm)?

I have a similar issue. I do not know if it is problem. With my M lens (TOU/ Five Star MC Auto Macron Zoom 1:4.5 75-200mm) in manual. I set the lens to the smallest aperture, hit the green button and I get a given shutter speed. While pointing at the same subject, I set the lens to the largest aperture, I hit the green button but there is no change in the shutter speed. I have tried it at different ISO settings with the same results. When the camera takes the pictures, there is a difference in the DOF; which means that the lens is doing what it is supposed to but the exposure is not correct.

Can this be related?

I want to point out that I have set my setting correctly to take photos with M-lens as described in the sticky post.

K-x green button question?

I was playing with the K-X and my M lenses this past weekend and found the same thing. I was confused as to why the AV button and the Green button (set to Tv shift) performed the same action.

I am glad that someone else found the same thing I did.

The sky had a strange color after the snowfall. I had to go out and take some photos. The picture was cropped and rotated, nothing else.

K-x eyecup

I have the same problem. The eyecup lets in lots of light and, in sunny days, it renders the camera settings unreadable.

Do any of you have problems reading the settings in the bottom on sunny days?
