That’s unnecessarily psychologising why people want these lenses.
These particular lenses ARE brilliant at open apertures, as good as 2,3 stops closed down. What’s more, open apertures result in another DoF, which high ISO doesn’t. So if you want that, there is a clear case for them.
If you don’t need it, fine, just don’t disparage the case for their use.

I never really fancy a stark choice between two options, because I see the value of both. So I voted ‘Why Choose’ although I do not have the DFA 85mm, only the 77mm Ltd (and the M 85mm, Tamron 90mm).
But I do own the DFA 50mm (and 43mm Ltd), so I know about the choice of these lenses. That lens is a pearl, albeit heavy and large. It's heavier than my DA* 16-50mm PLM. But it certainly has its place.
I wish they continue both lines.

It is entirely conceivable—it has in fact been suggested—that Ricoh may make another compact of higher ability later on, depending how this first camera goes. Which may end up closer to that Mint camera.
What I do like in particular is Pentax's emphasis on the manual experience with forwarding. I still enjoy that with my old cameras.

Very different cameras, it would seem. The Rollei has AF, a 5-element lens and is FF, the Pentax zone focus, a triplet and half frame.
It makes me wonder what Ricoh's next camera might be.

I ordered a 20-40mm Limited some years ago from Amazon.fr, and shortly before the delivery it mysteriously evaporated. I was reimbursed but never got the lens.
Shortly afterwards I went for a good deal on the new 16-50mm PLM, but not from or via Amazon, so that other lens will never be mine (no longer a need for it).

That's a horrible experience. I suppose the Ricoh website would be a better guess. Not sure about Pentax dealers in Germany, but Foto Looman in the Netherlands frequently has good discounts (for lenses at least) and shipping to your area may not be very much more. ATM they list the K-3 III for € 1.649,00 (the silver edition 50 more).

Thanks for this link! After relocating from the UK, where there was a dedicated Pentax repair, to the EU (Netherlands) I've been struggling to find a good place. I made some enquiries but did not get the impression they were Pentax specialists. This one is, and I've got a few cameras and lenses that deserve TLC.

The Espio Mini was mentioned in connection with the lens, 3.5/32mm. Interestingly, it's a triplet, which makes me wonder whether the new lens will also be one. Perhaps a Cooke triplet like lens, for its rendering.

Half frame uses standard 135 film, ratner than the similarly sized (slightly smaller) 110 cartridges. Pentax had the 110 but they may have decided that some of the hardware techniques, such as winding on, were better served by going half-frame? It's 24 x 18 (I assume) vs 13 x 17mm. So it is bigger but not by that much.
I don't think i myself would go for half-frame, but in cities abroad I have seen people using instant cameras (again) and quality wise that did not detract potential users apparently, so it's probably a good choice. I'd be inclined to buy something vintage. I've got a Yashica Electro 35 GT but that viewfinder doesn't appeal to me, although I do like the camera otherwise, and I adapted it for modern batteries.

I voted the second option because I have everything in place to do it (including a drying cabinet) but have yet to prepare the garage for it. And other things are more urgent. But I'm sure I'll get round to it

There are other worthwhile TLRs though, such as the Minolta Autocord, MPP Microflex, Voigtlander Superb with Heliar lens. I don't necessarily prefer my 2.8C (and I sold the 2.8F because it would sell for more and was just the same in quality).
For portraits, some prefer the Tessa designs, and a lot of TLRs would qualify. They might also be a little lighter (the voigtlander is 220 g lighter than the Rolleiflex). I bought a Photina Reflex II which weighs 410 g lighter but I've yet to repair it.
The one thing is, overall condition and the brightness of the viewfinder. The more expensive Rolleis are easier to bring up to scratch. Repair is hard or expensive these days.

Cellphone users will be pleased with 28mm FF. Yes, it is different from the old days, although I have to admit, that starting with 35mm + 85mm FF on my KX, I had to get used to 28mm. And 50mm. But the 28-50-85mm (with minor adjustments, 77 or 90mm for example) works beautifully.

The K-3 III was designed with love, it shines through when holding it. You'll be pleased.

The GR III with the GW-4 lens converter (turning it into a 21mm FF lens) is rather bulky, whereas the film GR witn equivalent 21mm was not (I think, I've only ever seen a picture on the internet). So that's perhaps a future option.
Of course it would have to be 14-15mm in real terms for the APS-C sensor.
But all this is speculation, with no realistic connection to the event announced.

K-1 III. I would probably not go for a Monochrome version - although tempting it certainly is.

Agreed, it has to be the definitive (at least for now) DSLR. And pricing for such a model would be accordingly high.
Perhaps a truly high spec'd model would leave space for a simpler version beside it - but perhaps that's asking for too much in a niche market, especially with a K-3 III already available.

That's the term that fits my situation..!
I have a Z-1 which I rarely use, but the DA 2.8/40mm Ltd sits very pretty on it.
I have two old 6x9 folders which I rarely use, but I do like them, and their name (De Maria La Pierre Telka III, which recalls Ian Dury's Reasons to be cheerful, part 3, as there never was a part 1 or 2 in either case) with a nice rendering lens, Sagittar 3.5/95mm.
Handling the cameras can be a joy. That's still what I think about the K-3 iii, it is designed with true love, and it shows.
The only camera I might want to change with a new mirror and screen is my Voigtlander Superb with Helier lens, which is superb, except for the dim view. But I haven't yet dared to do it, and quotes were more expensive than the camera itself.
Normally, my rule is, use the camera or sell it. But what's the definition, what are the parameters of use?

I bought the K3 III in 2021 because I realised the K1 III would be a long way off and I spent a year in Austria for work. It's a fantastic camera, but using certain FF lenses on it is not the same.
The 31/43/77 become ~48/65/105 and that's just not ideal (the 48 is good, the 105 would be for many people, the 65 is something some people get used to. I don't).
I love its bright VF and long for a FF equivalent of it. If that VF wouldn't be the improvement on the K1/II I crave, I won't go for it. I never took to the VF of the K1, perhaps simply because I came from medium format. I sold the Contax G1 I loved (45/90mm combo) simply because of the VF. Sometimes I regret it.
So yes, the lack of substantial investment in the series, so unlike Fuji, doesn't inspire confidence. But I hope a solid improvement of the K1 will.
If not substantial, I won't invest any further.
As for film, I have solid old cameras, FF and MF, and plenty lenses.

If I have sufficient funds, the K1 III; otherwise, a TLC service for my film cameras (KX and TLRs).

I agree. I even use the GRIII as the 18mm equivalent alongside primes for my K3 III - for when I do not want to use the 16-50mm PLM. Added advantage: I do not have to change lenses.

Romantic ad which seems to confirm that Pentax stands for film, perhaps not exclusively, but no less strong for that.

There is no current 24mm or 28mm, only 21/31mm, so something in between would probably be desirable.
Having the 31mm, as well as the K 2/28mm, K 3.5/28mm, I would not be in the market for one, but for the brand it looks like a good idea. Especially an FA version of the A 2/28:
I'm above all an 85mm kind of guy, for landscape and portraits, and as much as the DFA* 1.4/85mm attracts me, it is too heavy and costly for me. (I do own the 50mm sibling.) I recently ended up buying the 77mm Limited for that reason: so lightweight.
The DFA* 50mm is a brilliant lens, but almost too perfect. And it isn't very discrete, hence I'm keeping the 43mm too. I did like the 45/90mm Contax G2 lenses, a dream combo, apart from the VF. A 25/28mm would complement that perfectly. That's why I think such a focal length would make sense for FF Pentax too, even though I would not be in the market for it.
