Sigma 800mm f5.6 lens for pentax

I was in the Sigma service center yesterday and i picked a new catalog for the lenses.
And it shows the 800mm f5.6 as being offered. It is AF Mount/UPC Code 0085126152451.
Can anyone confirm this? I was shocked. I thought it was not in the pentax mount.
If I have time i will call them tomorrow and ask the price. If avaliable?
It clearly showes the 300-800 not being in the pentax mount. But showes the prime to be in the pentax mount.
Wow.

Here are a couple of pics i shot this morning. Deep in the rain forest.
My copy of this lens at 2.8 it is as sharp as it gets. verrrry sharp. When the pentax body focuses properly. Which is about 1 out of 5 at f2.8. Ahhhhh

The first pic is at f2.8. No flash.

The second pic is using fill flash 1/32 power. at f4.0

The last is at 2.8 no flash. Shooting thru brush and laying down.

Shot these guys today. I have been toying with the idea of getting a k-5. What do you guys think of it as a wildlife camera?

Ned Bunnell: " I assure you Ricoh has clear plans to revitalize the Pentax brand"

Ricoh has no choice but to make a go of it. They bought Pentax as a last ditch effort to generate business. There Printer business and others are failing rapidly. To that point of collapse. This is such a stupid thread. Do any of you read the Ricoh public records. Or even know what they are about?
This guy knows exactly what is up. It is public record. They are loosing money at a rate it will be a miracle if they pull this off. But I assure you if Pentax doesn't make money for them they will tank period.

There is a lot of talk about expensive lenses and cameras here. I find kinda puzzling. In my country (USA) and here in Thailand I see a ton of Harley Davidson, BMW motorcycles that cost the same or more than a quality camera and lens set up. Which is a hobby? I know people who drive expensive cars and such. Actually I see this hobby as not being as expensive as boating, motorcycles really many hobby's. What am I missing here?
Actually I like the hobby. You can choose many quality cameras and lenses or just dabble and have fun with inexpensive.

I'll tell you I have seen some art student pics with point and shoot that are stunning. Winning flickr awards. Just amazing stuff. I have taken a step back. Just to look around.

Look at this site if you have time. I think amazing. There are extraordinarily talented people out there shooting. Some of these photos just make me reflect and pause. Amazing

Pentax K-5 AF accuracy

I am going to try to be nicer. Sorry about the woman remarks.
I have had the k-5 since it came out. Sent it in to Pentax Japan for calibration and rebuild. It came back flawless. AF was spot on on my lenses to a point I thought I was in heaven. Until I experience the issues explained here by Christene. Missed focus? I bought a Canon 7D because I was not satisfied with the AF performance of the K-5. I've been shooting side by side with these two cameras daily for about a year now. It is really very simple IMHO. Canon will not lock and forces you to find a good target for AF to lock. It has helped me with the K-5 tremendously. I consider the AF module in the K-5 to rival that of the Canon 7D. But the difference is in the algorithms that control the AF to lock or not to lock. It is a simple matter of who has the money to invest in the engineering and R&D to perfect these algorithms ( and modules ). It is obviously a very difficult task that even the best engineers have problems with. And even with Canon and Nikon they have reached a compromise as to where to cut it off. It must be a daunting task. I will say that after buying a Canon 7D my experience with the k5 makes allot of scene. And hence my keeper rate with the K-5 has skyrocketed. It really is unbelievable.
That is my experience with the AF system with Pentax and Canon so far. Buying a Canon was the best thing I could of ever done. It helped me be a better Pentax shooter and understand the daunting task of AF systems in general.

A couple of birds. Of course..
The K-5 is absolutely the best camera I have ever used. Without this camera I would of given up my birding.
White balance is off but just look at noise ( or lack of it ) :) and beautiful colors.

K-5 Vs. 7-D with 328 lenses

I have heard the old 300mm 2.8 is really sharp. To bad... I'll tell you the sensor in the K-5 and ISO is much better than the 7-D. I just read Adams report on it and it is spot on. When you sharpen the noise really get bad. The K-5 was a real winner for birding. I hope Pentax Japan can fix mine...... Damn. With a little AF adj. and shutter fix. It would be top notch... Oh well we will see.

I personally side with Edvinas on this one. Very good and accurate post. I stop down my 328 to at least F4.0 or more to hit focus most of the time. Just all over the place. It really sucks for this much money. It just cannot handle my 328 period. Even in poor ambient light it just gets lost 50% of the time.
I need a back up but i refuse to buy another K-5. I am going with a 60D and a good lens to start with. If it is good improvement in AF. I will head over to the Canon camp.

AF and focus accuracy using older firmware vs. new (1.03) on K5 plus DA*300

I shoot daily with the K-5 and I can say without a doubt. It is a big problem. The AF is definitely faulty. In the OP you nailed the problems I have with the camera. The K-20 and K-7 had more keepers for me. Rupert that shot is very good. But the K-5 will nail that shot very fast. In low contrast objects even with some light it misses more than it hits.

There are ways I try to deal with it. If the bird has any contrast lines or colors focus on them. If need be focus on an object it is sitting on and increase the DOF. It is really a problem for me with dark blue birds??? It will miss every time right in front of me. I was in a hide two days ago and shot a white tailed Robin and it missed every shot. Then I of course hit the white and dark blue contrast patch in the head and it hit.

The brown bird Rupert posted. Is the best color for AF on the K-5 I have found?

I don't want to make anyone mad but it really has problems and the 1.03 did nothing for my K-5.

I am really waiting for the next round of cameras from Pentax and expect to see this fixed then. But not holding my breath for a software fix.

I do not like to beat a dead horse but it is a problem that needs to be delt with in other ways other than Pentax fix.. It is not going to go away with the current K-5 in my opinion.

I shoot with other guys with high dollar cameras and they have similar problems.. But nowhere near what the K-5 has. I shoot with a guy that shoots a 7D and it will AF circles around the K-5 but if you know its limits you can usually get close to their keepers. For me anyway.

Others may have different views. This is with my current K-5 and lenses. I expect other copies may be better but really doubt it with all the hype about it already.

For me it is a hobby and all pro shooters shoot mostly canon in my neck of the woods. And would never own a camera with so many focus problems. But i kinda like it as a hobby camera. It is really a sweet camera most of the time.

Very tragic and sad for the people. My heart goes out to them..
But the reality is. This will be the opportunity to update the older plants and install state of the art machinery, And redesigning the ageing plans. The end result will be a stronger Japan. If I had to guess the heads of the companys are already planning a comeback. With new facilitys and new products of unequaled quality. With stream lined plants for greater profits.
Do I feel for the owners of the plants. NO

Do i feel for the people. YES and already donated.

Yea, AF-c is not why i am buying the k-5. That is a small part of the package. Would be nice to have at one point though. Without buying new glass.
