+1 here
Just a side note on the Presents of Pentax in Thailand.
Here in Asia, Thailand. Almost all Pentax products have vanished. I see a very few in Bangkok. But last year I saw stores with the gear in them.
This year it is like Pentax does not exist. I found a few lenses that the big boys were discounting big to get rid of. And they were at the back of the self. I really had to look.

If interested in looking at what a 600mm telescope lens with a Canon 7D attached will do go here: Flickr: roychurchill's Photostream
I have been looking at this guys pics for the past two or three years. He recently started using this set up and it is really amazing the shots he gets with MF and a telescope.
He mentioned the scope was about 400-500 dollars. I have thought many time about trying it. Not interested in an AF telescope for $7,000, but a small cheap set up like his would be allot of fun. I think.

I shoot wildlife and there are many different thoughts on using editing software. It is strictly a personal thing and what you like. If you are an amateur like me or a pro all think different.
I find Photoshop a tool that I use on every photo I put on the net. The problem is the learning curve behind it IMO. It took me 2 years of using it to really understand what was going on at a beginners level. I am still learning and love to use the Program more every day. But I also love taking photos. Photoshop is very fast and easy once you get the hang of it. I have not found anything that comes close to PS. But I am open to suggestions.
In my opinion it is a must have for me. I use it daily and love it.
Every photo here has been Photo Shopped. No exception. www.flickr.com/photos/avianphotos |

For sports shooting it is a joke period. I use and have been thru 3 K-5 bodys now And only one 7D. Sure the sensor is great. The camera however is a joke.

Well sounds like I may play around with the 18-55 some tomorrow. It is in the 16-45 range so I can experiment. Also I just read that Graduation filter is good for landscape shots some times.
Thanks for the detailed tutorial on MF Southlander. I may print that out and take it with me. I assume I can try MF with the 18-55 lens. Just putting it in MF mode to try it.
Also I have read else where about using primes for landscape. It says the same thing you mentioned. I'll get on e-bay and look for one of the cheap primes suggested here too.
There is a camera store here close but at this time I do not want to spend a lot of money. I want to experiment and enjoy for a while. Just kinda walk around and do some experimenting.

Thnk's for the advice. I shoot with a Pentax K-x now. And I have a lens hood for the 18-55 So I will take it out tomorrow and see how it looks at F8 and up..
I looked at your album Southlander, I have been pondering MF. Is it hard to get use to. Or how do you like MF as opposed to AF.

Hi, thanks for the help. I have two sigma primes but they are for birding. I want to start documenting and have never even shot with the 18-55 lens. I will try it stopped down some. Where is it the sharpest?

I have a 18-55 kit lens and that is it. Is that good enough for mountains, large scenery and documenting where I am. Say signs for National Parks and such.
Is there a big jump in quality when you go with a better lens for this kind of shooting?
I have some big primes, but have never bought a lens for scenery. And I would like to use Pentax because of the excellent Sensor it has.
Any help would be appreciated.

Great thread. But if Pentax doesn't come out with something in the next year. Even six months IMO.
Pentax will be in serious trouble.
So I am pulling for them.

I saw a feather shot with a D800 and it had it. So as a birder I will pass.
Hoping the next round will bring a better camera for birders.
Sitting this one out with high hopes for the next round. ;)

I'm just interested in accuracy. I don't care about AF-C with Pentax.
I just want accuracy. I think if this is fixed then all is good with me.
If not? Wait until the next round or sell out.

That has nothing to do with the facts. Pixel density and lens resolution will always resolve more detail.
People buy the FF and 645D for field of view. The D800 is getting there now where it is resolving DETAIL of a crop camera with a 1.5 18MP with TWICE the field of view sensor. Why ( pixel density )
What is your point? Pentax just cannot compete at this point in FF my opinion. Canon and Nikon have the edge by miles.
FF will never replace a medium format camera. So in my opinion the 645 is a good tool for those who need it.

The pixel density of the k-5 ll and k-5 lls compared to a FF d600 is why you see better resolution. Very simple really. No magic there. Using the finest glass available you will always reveal more info recorded on a crop sensor. Except for the D800 which is approaching the crop sensor pixel density. When the FF camera reaches the density of 46mp. equal to a 18 mp. 1.6 crop camera then I will be in for FF. The electronics and processing power is not there yet. But it will be in 5 years. Until then I am buying the new Pentax k-5 lls.
It will be a very good camera? Hopefully..... I still have a bad taste in my mouth with the Pentax K-5.
IMHO all the talk of Pentax going FF is just that talk. If it comes about it will be only because of the whiners. Ricoh knows they cannot and will not have the glass the technology. IMO a very poor business decision.
If they had a fairly good crop sensor pro camera then they would be in the hunt and people would consider changing systems. NOT because of FF.

For me that is an impressive display. I hear it is an awesome AF system on some Canon bird sites for BIF. Once it locks on it will not let go.
BUT, for 6,700 dollars and a FF not for me. For birding that is. For everything else it would be great.
They say the 1D mark 1V is as good? I may spring for that one. 1.3 crop for birding, and AF would be a blast to shoot with.
If Pentax ever put's out a pro-body. Or a pro-summer that will AF just a little bit in continuous mode. Even if as good as the 7D then I would buy one in a heart beat. We'll see.

As far as AF goes I hope it goes from very last in the DSLR market to next to last anyway.
Going next to last would be a quantum leap.

I would love to try a lens like that. But working at that focal length with MF? Wow. Does anyone know where there are some pics with this lens?
