The coal trains run almost every hour it seems as we camped in the small town of Cut Bank, Montana. I read where this is a disappearing and outdated power source, but it appears someone must still be using this resource that remains in abundance in many parts of the USA. I wonder if one day the last train will cross this track and what source will be used for our energy needs.

On our travels across the USA, we've pulled into many a small town and I just can't figure how it got started. No railroad, no mining, no nothing that I can see for the small towns even existing. I think that during the1800's many a pioneer coming from the East just got tired of making and breaking camp each day, the constant bumping around in their wagons and I think the final thing was, the wife just said "that's it, I quit. Let's just live here" and they were the first to settle that area and many others followed their lead.

It's all about the light especially when photographing sandstone. The foreground is cloud covered and you can see in the background sun breaking through the clouds and the difference of colors of the landscape.

We went to a Powwow while in Colorado and I saw this gentleman sitting by himself and got up enough nerve to ask for permission to take his photo. His response was yes but first let's talk. He is an elder of the Ute Mountain tribe which has inhabited the area for hundreds of years. His main reason for wanting to speak a bit was about the younger generation and the problems they were having. It seems they are not interested in past history and not even about looking to the future for employment. He told me he sees many of the youth are playing with phone devices and not much interest playing with other children outside and a lack of social skills. We spoke about other things for about a half hour but after we parted I reflected that there isn't much difference between him and I, we all seem to be following the same path.

One of my favorite places to photograph is Monument Valley, where the changing light during the day produces different colors, moods and textures to the formations.

This was a fantastic sunset in color, but I converted it just to present something different. It is as simple as black and white.

Jer, this is the first park on our travels that we saw an alligator. Terri and I were having lunch picnic by the water and this big guy just crawls out about 10 foot from us. We didn't realize that Texas had them and we kept our distance from the water while we stayed there. Looks like a lot of water flowing through, much better than those drought years we remember. Nice shots buddy, brought back some memories for us.

Located in a limestone recess high above the flood plain of Beaver Creek in the Verde Valley Arizona, stands one of the best preserved and most easily accessible cliff ruins in North America. This 5-story, 20-room cliff dwelling served as a safe dwelling for the prehistoric Sinagua Indians more than 700 years ago.
Early settlers to the area assumed that the imposing structure was connected to the Aztec emperor Montezuma, but this "castle" was abandoned almost a century before Montezuma was born.

Little did I know until uploading the photo that I had captured a hummingbird on the opposite side of the feeder in flight and perfect position. Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good.

When I think of the name Willys it immediately goes back to my old drag racing days when they ran in the A/Gas class. Short wheelbase, large horsepower cars that were a real handful at times when they went to AA/Gas and AA/Gas Supercharged.

I was waiting for the light to hit the hummingbirds iridescent feathers just right and the rude little guy stuck his tongue out at me. In the second photo I think he felt embarrassed and hid his head. Either that or he was just laughing at me, I'm not sure:D
