Lovely combo. I have the combo and use it frequently. Beautiful bokeh and sharp as a tack. The AFA focuses FAST and allows you to quick shift focus - great for birding.

Love this little afa. Have one myself. its one of the few TCs that you cant tell any IQ drop when using it. I have mine paired with my 300mm 2.8 to give me 510mm 4.6. The combo saved me about 4,000 dollars off of buying a standard 5-600mm af lens!

This has been available on websites for a while now.. Im not sure the actual available date but there's not a single sample pic of a K5 IIS out there.

You would think pentax itself would at least market their own camera by throwing out some great images to try to sell it...

Also, didn't anyone who bought it want to post some pics to brag on their new gear?

or am I just missing something.

Im intrigued but i have to see it before I jump on board.

Soft or not... Actually the softness I believe is what drew me to it. Stellar poto! Sharp isn't always better.

I like the first one. THe second, the bokeh isn't as pleasing to me. The bokeh is very distracting to the main subject IMO that my eyes had a hard time focusing on the subject itself.

77 limited... Greatest prime ever made ?

I prefer primes because I really believe it pushes me as a photographer to discover new things. I think its all about just grabbing a lens and forcing yourself to work within its limitations. I will often bring a few primes with me just for those 'have to grab' shots, but for the most part, my lens is predetermined before I head out the door that day, not when I'm staring straight at the subject.

Try it sometimes, you will push the boundaries and learn a lot opposed to just adjusting the zoom and repeating the same old tactics.

I've got the Sigma 24-60 2.8 ex as well and its a great lens IMO. Very sharp for a zoom lens, one of the sharpest in that range. It's also light weight. I use it often as a walk around in a new area just because of its versatility and close focus ability to take macro shots. When I don't want to carry all my primes and I am stepping into new territory, its probably the first thing I grab.

Your pics are great! Really brings back some memories.

I think the 2nd to the last may be overprocessed for my taste. Its a lovely photo but the realism is stripped away with the saturation boost.

Most excellent prime in 135-200mm range?

You've got me confused. You keep talking about wanted a cheaper alternative than the DA 200*, a pricey lens, but shoot down all the MF 200's suggested, which is what you asked for. THere's no way an old CZ MF is going to be even in the ballpark of the cost of the 200* lens. With the adapter you're using, you're right about throwing the af out the window.

There's tons of great prime options for 100-200 range in MF for a fraction of the 200* that have low CA.

My 200 CZ has been a top performer on digital bodies. The Tamron SP's are also very hard to beat in IQ/functionality/price.

Steinheil Auto-DTele-Quinar 2,8/135 mm German Lens

Carl Zeiss Jena Sonnar 3,5/135 mm MC DDR Lens

Carl Zeiss Jena Sonnar 2,5/200 mm MC Auto

FUJINON EBC 1:3.5-135mm

FUJINON EBC 1:2.5-135mm

ALl great performers, available on Ebay, and priced at fractions at the 200* lens.

I wouldn't sell it short. (FA 35 F2) I did extensive A/B Comparisons between it and the 35 macro and IMO it won over the 35 macro. You also gotta remember its FF compatible. Surely you aren't saying its same price range as the 31 LTD. I picked mine up for 350ish and its well worth every penny

Who is Eric and how do I get in touch with him?

Also, I paid less than $20.00 for the mint CZ 200mm 2.8. It was in an ebay lot called camera stuff. I got a few gems inside there, sold the rest for over $400.00 and kept 2-3 hard to find mints.

It's definitely worth the repair cost.

As for the 50m 1.4. Those can be had rather inexpensively on Ebay so I would be more hesitant to repair those. I remember snaggin one on Ebay for 45 bucks in mint shape.

I wanted to hijack this thread because I was actually just about to post the same issue with my carl zeiss jena sonnar 200mm 2.8. It's a MINT lens but I just don't use t enough and the focus stiffens when it sits. Is tehre someone I can send this to who will be able to operate on it for me? It's too hard to come by in this pristine condition and I don't want to mess it up.

It's usable but the focus gets so stiff if I don't play with it for a while before use that it will want to screw right off the body when trying to focus.

I personally have the FA 35 f/2 and enjoy it very much. Very sharp, bright, great color rendition and contrast. The f/2 makes it a nice indoor /low light lens as well. Its more than the el cheapo 35 f2.4 but I was willing to pay more for the FF ability, extra stop, and higher build quality.

That's just not right. Theres no extra reach, its field of view differences.

If you're concerned about shooting 2 cameras; a FF and an APSC directly next to each other and having same FOV without cropping the FF, then use a wider lens on the APS-c.

THere's no 'extra reach' for the aps-c, thats a misconception.

I think your Nikon users don't know the difference between APS-C and FF.

APS-C doesn't provide any extra reach.. It's just cutting the sides off the of the viewpoint that a FF would provide. IE them shooting their FF and APSC side by side would result in the same magnification, just different field of views. IE like having a wide screen movie playing on a non wide screen TV without letterbox.

Maybe educate them before they look dumb in a conversation IRL

Your favorite holster bag

I am looking for a new holster bag. I saw one using one the other day and I wished I woulda asked which one it was. It looked like it adapted to the size of the lens (a semi opened bottom) and had other lens holder attachments surrounding it.

I can't seem to find it online.

I was wondering if one of you out there has it or one like it.. or if not post your favorite one you use.

Thanks

VF too small

Thanks guys, I will look into that. WIth a lens as sharp as the 300 sp 2.8, everything looks stellar in the VF which can be quite deceptive. 1.2X doesnt seem like much of an improvement, but it can't be any worse. With limitations to usable ISO, I have to keep it relatively open aperture to keep up with the birds, usually between F4-F8. Any higher the shutter speeds just start to become a bigger issue, even with a fast lens.

Maybe time for a camera upgrade as well.. For now I will try the enlarged VF.

My friend has a katzeye but I didnt like all the garbled crap blocking the VF. It made it harder for me to concentrate on the subject itself.. does anyone have this issue or was I using it wrong?
