@ flyer, thanks for the suggestion, I'll keep that in mind for next time!
Thanks for the context update guys. I should add that as I found out today, a Pentax buyer is not given much wiggle room when it comes to bargaining. A retailer is a not going to drop their price when they know you can't purchase the same product from across the street.
Again, that would be a consideration for some first time buyers.

As a Melbournian and a new Pentaxian living in London, just popped in to say I'm enjoying the hometown shots. I know these bronze pedestrians very well.
Keep 'em coming! :D

Hi all,
Thanks so much for all your speedy and helpful responses, I definately made the right decision coming here and asking the experts instead of bumbling around London. It was very frustrating to trek to CameraWorld (who advertise the K-x on their website) only to find it's not stocked! I have been in contact with Jacob's (who I didn't even know existed until this thread) and am going to pick up the double lens K-x kit tomorrow. Amazon et al didn't offer any savings unfortunately.
@Nass, I'm with you, I did take their comments with a grain of salt. I should add that the CameraWorld rep said that Pentax made superb cameras, didn't try to change my mind and tried to help me find a store which stocked them, which was good of him. Regardless, I would respectfully suggest that Pentax still have a bit of a distribution problem. I have emailed Pentax with some feedback, which they have been kind enough to respond to. They seem to have good products but the effort you have to go through to hunt down a store which stocks their product will put off some newbs.
Not me though! I'm looking forward to playing with my new toy this weekend! :)

Hi all,
I responded to another thread re. this, but don't want my post to be buried, so apologies in advance for the double posting.
I am planning on buying my first DLSR and have decided on a K-x. I live in London, and Jessops is the most well known camera store. They stock every brand but Pentax. So I visited John Lewis, a well known department store with a good camera section. Same thing. I went to Camera World, a small but well known chain. Same thing. The overwhelming message I got was that Pentax make life really difficult for their distributers, therefore they don't stock their cameras.
I'm not going to order the camera online as I want to play with it first (I'm a bit old school like that!). On another note, no wonder Canon and Nikon are so popular, they're stocked everywhere.
I had my heart set on this camera and I'm really disappointed that I can't find it anywhere. If anyone knows of the store in London that stocks Pentax and could let me know, I would much appreciate it.

'How is Pentax doing where you are?'
In a word: invisible.
