Honest would be building proper (read: perfect) crop dslr, which we all know is possible right now.

They're not honest (I mean whole canikolypasontax family) because if they would, they wouldn't be able to sell any more upgrades anymore.

For me it's just too small (K-7 and K-5). Like the camera and all but I think I'll go against MP race and buy one of my first (favorite) DSLRs again.

Oly E-1 and whatever I can save I'll spend on ZD 35-100 f2 :) Then I won't read rumors or news sites anymore. Just press that nice shutter release button!

if the D7000 is spec'd/priced as rumored

I think specs are far from similar but that depends on individual needs. I for an instance really need IS/SR. Do both Canon or Nikon provide it in-body? NO! I bet K-5 will be same body as K-7 (magnesium alloy weather sealed). 60D is plastic, D7000 is ??? OVF of K-7 (I expect K-5 to be better or at least the same) is 100% coverage while 60D is 96%. etc, etc, etc.

All above, at least for me is worth more than $500.

Full manual movie mode is great! That's the reason I went Pentax from Olympus hoping they would fix it by firmware in K-7 which I think is great camera. They didn't, but I think they will as soon as they sell enough K-5s (same story: Canon 7d and 5d MK II).

I understand Canon users moaning about 60D. They are the moaning crowd :)

Oly users at E-System flickr group (best 4/3 users forum I'm aware of) are rather pleased by the proper "warm up" of already excellent E-3.

In the end you have to know what you need and want to pay for. I think Pentax does it it's own way and does it right. It's all about good glass. Pentax and Oly rule in this matter.

Whats Ploland?

To Zoom or to Prime? That's the question!

A: To prime of course :)

It's not really wide enough anyway but I'd really prefer the walk in the Ploland's high mountains carrying this one instead of my Sig 28-70 f2.8 zoom

I'll get one to accompany my soon owned K-5 (as soon as I can find a buyer for my K-7)

:)

Battery grip for K-7 $54.77

Did any of you try using it with AA batteries? I have mine for over a week now but today was the first time I loaded AA batteries in it and it doesn't seem to work. Two questions

1. Do I need any specific kind of batteries (NiMH etc)?
2. Can I switch the camera on with batteries in the grip but with camera battery depleted?

Thanks

Mine was ordered on 22nd January and arrived this week. It feels bit plasticky (compared to other plastic grips I've used) but handling of K-7 with my recently purchased Sigma 28-70 (huge DF version) mounted improved significantly. If you have big hands and long fingers like me, you need to get one :)

Setting Shutter Speed for Video (A How To Guide)

Ah, OK :( I'm on very slow connection and didn't bother watching whole video but seeing initial frame I thought that was the display during the Movie Mode Live View. Good to know though. Almost ordered small external monitor to have shutter speed and iso displayed in the movie mode.

On the other hand I think (and I'm sure I'm not the only one) it's really silly for Pentax to have it on the display in standard Live View and exclude it in the movie mode.

You don't need to be that fast :) What I do with my K-7 is:

1. Set camera to Av mode
2. Go to menu and save it to user mode

this way you have the Av mode under USER mode on the dial meaning it's right next to Movie Mode and you don't need to go through the green mode while switching. Just set it to USER, lock on desired shutter speed and switch to Movie Mode. Exposure will stay locked.

As to over exposed image I always compensate by -2/3EV before recording. Not sure why the switch in exposure but I should be able to check it this week when I have mini HDMI -> DVI cable (shutter speed is displayed on external display... someone correct me if I'm wrong).

(Works with auto lenses without twist off)
