Poll: GR III wish list

  1. I wish the new sensor has PDAF built-in

  2. faster AF in macro mode shorter startup time from power on to ready taking photo

  3. BTW when GR is shut off can you press review/replay button to see your photos?

  4. or you still need to press power on then press replay/review to see photos?

  5. if it's still the latter one, I wish it can be the former one.

I am so excited that this new SR works wonderfully.
However, I have a question/favor to ask, for the people who own(ed) both K-1 and other body to compare the time for SR to warm up.

Using the bodies before K-1, I usually do half press shutter-->wait for little green hand to popup-->fully press shutter!

Does SR in K-1 still take time to warm up? meaning you still have to wait for the little green hand to popup before fully press shutter. If there exits such a pause, is this pause significantly shorter than the bodies before K-1?
Thank you in advance!!

Did you took both pictures by using same metering mode?
Could the Fluorescent light flickering cause the inconsistent exposures between 2 photos?

K-1 AF in video mode

it's dual pixel(PDAF on sensor...sort of thing)
so it can AF smoothly(with silent lens motor and firmware tune up) while mirror locked up in video mode
just my 2 cents!

Thanks Adam for clarifying this for me!!
I will go try a Nikon body to test it out!

One further question, based on current firmware,
when the OVF illumination is turned on (the red light),
will it be on all the time or just when you half-press the shutter button(keep on til you release the shutter button)?

Thanks Rayn and enoeske to confirm this issue on K-3ii

Based on the info from ScooterMaxi Jim and TheOneAndOnlyJH, we have to make sure ask the repair department to set the flash to P-TTL in order to re-produce the delay

Much appreciated!

Pentax K-1 Viewfinder Demo Video

Dear Adam, Thank you again for the wonderful video!

Here are some questions regarding the AF overlay:
Because there is no sound in the video you post,
I guess the red flashing light(starting from 00:36)
indicating that you were half-pressing the shutter button?

If my assumption is correct, It seems that there is no red solid square indicating the in-focus AF point
when you acquiring the focus.
then how do we know what AF point(s) is(are) current locked on
if we choose multiple AF points(auto 33/9...etc) to shoot with?

Because from Ricoh's official AF tracking Demo video
there is no red square, just the black ones indicating the AF points that are currently tracking(in-focus).
Those AF points that are not in-focus (but still effective) will not be overlayed while tracking.

Is K-1 using black square instead of red solid square(we used to have in k-3/5/7) indicating the in-focus AF points? If so, wouldn't black square be less ideal than red solid square for shooting at dark/black scene?

Sorry if I totally misunderstand how k-1's AF system works.
Thanks in advance!!!

I agree with Adam...PDAF(dual pixel, to be precise) on sensor is the way to go,
check A6300's AF tracking

Ricoh won't use the sensor with PDAF-on-sensor in the near future, cause the cost and video feature doesn't has higher priority than others.
Just my 2 cents!

Ya, that is also my 1st reaction when people talk about focus on GR.
I do use it a lot on GRD IV, but GR and GRii both have larger sensor resulting less depth of field.
This might make snap focus more difficult than previous models with 1/1.7" sensors.

Thanks for your reply!
Based on your feedback, can I say that basically while the body is clearing the buffer or writing to the dual cards, any functionalities that don't required LiveView LCD is available? so the body is not totally frozen/hanged?

Well, I guess they refer to the people who doesn't use external directional Mic XD
However I do notice the SR sound in a quiet environment when shoot with my old K-7.
Maybe an un-dicrectional Mic might still be able to pick up the SR noise?(not sure)

Sorry, I didn't do video, and the rep didn't specify in the video, either.

Hope this helps

Thank for your information!
I do need to shoot dual cards for backup on important events, just in case one of my SD card fails unpredictably.
However, the longer idle time while writing to the cards prevents me from using k-3ii in a fast action event...
Too bad to hear that K-3ii didn't improve these, guess I will have to wait for K-4...

just a brief summary

he said that even the 24-70mm, the lightest of the three, felt much more balanced with the battery grip attached than without,

he was impressed that the live view black out time was shorter than the other bodies offered by other companies. fast LV AF speed.

70-200mm is way too heavy to his taste(he mentioned that multiple times)

as stated in the Adam Q&A with Ricoh representative 2016 CP+
only electronic SR in movie mode
since they haven't found a solution to eliminate the noise of SR during video shooting
