They did, and I have one :) It takes SuperA with 50/1.4 or some shorter lens. I can take picture of it if you want.

Pentax 645 long exposures?

645 can do long exposures as long as batteries can take it. As I remember the first 645 was the best for it, due to little energy consumption. I read somewhere that 645n can do 8h exposures on fresh set of batteries, and the old 645 could do it a lot longer. For old 645 is the 'Pentax cable switch A'. I think you find it on ebay :)

For me the 100% crop looks like out off focus also. My A50/1.7 is much sharper even on high iso at F2.8. Try use manual focus and don't mind the confirmation. If you can focus better the camera needs a calibration with lenses you have.

It looks really pleasant. I have to buy myself few rolls and shoot in different conditions. Beside of that the sharpness is grate, and it was taken with FA45-85 lens wide open at long end. I consider changing it for the FA150/2.8 but actually I don't think it's such a good idea to sell it.

For me it looks ok :) You have to remember that deep of field is really small for close subjects and open aperture. Could you post a 100% crop from the in focus part of picture? By the way ISO1600 from K-X looks really clean :>

yusuf, 80mm lens is always 80mm lens no matter what is the sensor size. On 645 it will have angle of view close to 50mm on 36x24 frame and on aps-c the angle will be about 120mm lens on 24x36 film frame.

FA50/1.4 is a little soft at F1.4, gets better stopped down to F2, and it's really geting sharp from F2.8 to F8. At low light in AV mode I would chose F2.8 and ISO just enough to take sharp photo (so the shooter speed like 1/50 or faster - I don't know how stable hands you have). Beside of that if your taking photos in jpg mode try a few combination of sharpness and contrast.

Right :) But still.. I think that there is some space between you and the monitor. 30' is a quite big screen to watch and it needs a distance. Just like prints. To have a look at whole big print you need to stand away from it to see it all without moving your head around :) The bigger print or screen the bigger distance is needed and the bigger distance makes pictures look better.

Sure it's nice to have razor sharp images, but without pixelpeeping it all looks better ;)

Its a little under 5MPx. So watching pictures full screen from K-X is less than 50% magnification - they all look really good this way :)

I have a portrait of my friends little son which I have taken on their wedding. Shoot was made with wide open tammy at 50mm (it's the worst what you can get from this lens). At 100% it looks similar to the picture from this topic . I printed it at 8x12' glossy paper. It looks really grate :)

flippedgazelle, what is the resolution of these large monitors? I don't think that it is any way close to even 6MPx :) Full HD large TV panels have just a little over 2MPx and 30' Eizo pro LCD gets to 4MPX - still three time less than K-X sensor can give you :) And as justDIY said it all looks a lot better on good prints anyway :)

This shoot doesn't look blurry at all. I guess that lens just didn't manage to take out full resolution from camera sensor. Scale it to 10 or 8MPx and it will look better. Actually even my photos from very sharp tammy 17-50 doesn't look razor sharp on 14MPx when looked at 100% (it was better on K10D). I really don't know why people watch their photos at 100%. How often do you print photos on a large format where it really starts to matter? While watching them on full screen even with very big LCD's they all look nice ;)

It will be visible on 100% crop :) Kit lens is not really as good to deliver razor sharp images from 12MPx on its wide end no matter what F you choose.

Why is this photo taken with lens stopped down to F11 while the best sharpness you can get at about F5,6-8? After that it's getting worst due to diffraction. With 18mm stopped down to F11 FF or BF is not an issue. Beside of that consider that this is a DSLR camera. Basic sharpening is low comparing to any sort of compact cameras which give often really over-sharpen images. They sure look crisp, but there are awful things going on the edges because of that.

Tusk was there on wednesday on a official meeting with Putin, and on saturday there was another celebration with Kaczynski, families of murdered officers, veterans, representative military campaign and journalists. As I can read in our news reports over 400 people from Poland went to Katyn on Saturdays celebrations - all of them were waiting on the cemetary for president and others. Journalists went few hours earlier in other plane to get prepared.

Smolk, crop factor is exactly the same as any other 300mm lens - x1,5. Focal length is a lens characteristic and the angel of view depends only on the film/sensor size.

Film to digital

Actually I think that film photography is now cheaper than ever. Films are cheap and easy to buy and so is the chemistry or lab developing. The same comes to cameras. Just ten years ago when I was starting my photo experience I could just dream about cameras and lenses which I can buy now for really less than cheap. All thanks to digital :)

I really like the second shoot, always makes me smile

And by the way.. Few days ago I shoot a roll of something called Shanghai GP3 - ultra cheep 120 BW film which I received from my friend to do some testing in Rodinal developer. What do you think? I think it looks quite nice :)

Why obsess over gear?

That is really true.. After haveing K10D and now K20D I lost all the fun from taking photos. So I thinked that size matters and bought myself a 645n. Didn't worked actually. So after long time of frustration and diferent thoughts about photography I come up with that I should go back to where I starter. So no I have a SuperA and 50mm lens. The joy of taking pictures come back and I'm really happy about it. Now I have other problem - what to do with all the gear I do not use ;)

So my conclusion is that if you lost your way, go back to where it was fun and start again. Worked for me :)

Yes it's fotonegatyw :) Travel time by train is really long. Few years ago I was working near Lodz and had opportunity to go there by train - it's really long because there are no direct tracks between Poznan and Lodz. It's better to go by car, bus or hitch-hiking ;)

I think that if I had, I wouldn't care so much ;)

I just read that this was a last attempt to land in Smolensk, and if they failed they were supposed to land in Minsk. I guess they wanted to be there as quick as possible because another airport was about 200km away so it would take few hours to drive to Katyn and whole ceremony would be delayed because of that.

The plane was from governmental fleet. It was renovated few months ago and it had a permission for flying for the next six years. First informations from black boxes which are coming from Russia are saying that it wasn't a plane malfunction. Sure we have an old air fleet but these planes do not fly like line jets and they are well cared. The major problem with them is that they burn a lot more fuel and are not so comfortable as current generation of planes. Yesterday news said that weather conditions were very bad. Fog was up to 70meters above the land. I read that there is a probability that they hit some sort of 50m mast while landing in the fog and failed to level up the plane and crashed. I guess it was as all accidents.. Few bad things happened in one moment..

Sorry for my English, I'm not using it very often last days.

alexulo, the jpg from camera is actually RAW file processed with algorithm made by some guys from pentax. The difference between jpg from camera and jpg from PPL or LR or whatever software you are using is that settings are yours. You can change WB till its best and make lot more with highlights and shadows than from file already processed in camera. For me DR is noticeable better.

Some time ago I was shooting on some event, and first few shoots were taken on jpg (don't know why, probably I pressed the RAW button by accident) and the rest PEF. These shoots doesn't look as good as the rest after processing all of them in LR. There is noticeable difference in the shadows.

I shoot in RAW only since I have DSLR. The WB is not an issue and I think that dynamic range is better. With 4 or 8GB SDHC card (or both) amount of photos is not a problem really. But I don't take to much of them, I guess it's a habit from shooting on film :)
