50mm 1.7 rear element yellowish haze

I have seen three examples of the 1.7 and all of these had blurred rear elements attributed to lens separation. it seems that this is an inherent weakness of the 1.7 lens. two of these lenses were given to me but were useless.

These series pictures were taken to check that the Hoya and Opteka filters used on my 18-250 Pentax, Tamron 10-24, Tamron 28-300, 50mm 1.4 pentaxK lenses would produce similar results as long as the white balance setting on my KX remained the same. So far, there are slight variances noted among the filters but these are manageable.

I still am in the process of exploring NIR and one of the obstacles I have come across is that there is only one possible setting for manual white balance - which is critical in coming up with the colors I wish to come out. I could experiment further if I could compare the manual white balance settings without erasing the previous setting in the camera. Pentax works well for NIR photos.

If you were able to see my earlier NIR photos, the sky colors were dark but in these latest takes, the sky is brilliant blue. I suspect this may be due to the basis of the manual white balance calibration source (plant leaves)

The stated EXIF data are ballpark with the actual EXIF found on the pics.

fantastic review. made me visit the local pentax dealer again, after I initially saw the K 01 and noticed the door memory card door made of rubber. your observation on the SD door is a great concern so I checked out the door again on 2nd visit and when my thumb snagged against the rubber flap (it is really just a flap) it opened repeatedly. a firmer closure helped but the center of the flap still opened up a bit. i have experienced rubber items that have turned to powder after a few years as in the soles of running shoes. a lot of you may know what brand I refer to. in short, this may not stand up to rugged use since in addition to the tendency to open, the rubber door is held on by two thin rubber strips. I wonder if the designer is a photographer. thanks again for the review.

it seems to be a good platform though and i was thinking maybe pentax could offer a grip that would cover the whole right side and bolster the whole rubber door cover to make the closure more secure. I am sensitive to this issue since I sometimes snag my pinkie on the battery cover of my Kx and the batteries fall out. I have to take care to avoid doing this it causes concern.

am a pentaxian. own Kx film, Kx digital, Lx, K1000 film, K100D. Mx with vaious lenses from screw mt, k, Km, Da since 70's so that I'm concerned about longevity of equipment

Opteka/Cokin Infrared Filters?

have both the Hoya and the opteka R72 filters. am into IR photos. after calibrating the WB against dark leaves, the hoya has the traditional dark sky and yellow foilage but the opteka is more dramatic with the sky deep prussian blue. the opteka on pentax looks like the nikon converted cameras where the IF filter is removed and the colors are brilliant.

Hi,
I just found dust inside my 18-250 lens. I read that zooming lenses like this with a long extension can cause a bellows effect pumping dust into the the housing. Can anyone corroborate this. Lito;)

Tried the silver button. It just gives you a bigger area to press on. If you want stability, just bolt on a metal plate of your choice weight to the tripod mount or get one of those bolts and tie a string to it and step on the string while the bolt is attached to the tripod mount.

Hello
I have been using pentax euipment since the 70s and still have my MX and k100 film cameras along with ser 1 70-210, ser 1 35-85 k501.4.
I am currently interested in NIR and have taken landscape pictures.
I will try to post some pics as soon as I get the hang of doing this.
I use both my K100D-S and KX for this with the 18-250.
I have experienced hotspots on the 18-250 at the smaller apertures but some articles indicate that if I open up the F stop,
this will be gone. The hot spots are magenta colored.
I will post more on this after I have tried comparing shots at different openings.
I am able to focus and compose IR shots with the Hoya 72 filter using the 50mm prime at 1.4 opening and live view on the KX.
I will also try taking IR shots with my 18-55 kit lens.

you can manually lock up the mx mirror by tapping lightly on the shutter button when cocked. the mirror will lock up and you can then use the time so that the moving part will just be the shutter curtin

Hello All,
I have been using pentax cameras since the 70's. I still own an MX and a K1000 and have waited for 10 years for pentax to come out with a body that can use its old lenses. My faith was rewarded and I am back taking pictures using a digital SLR with both the old K leenses and the new DA lens. From this, I consider that Pentax cares for its customers who have stuck with its system. Thanks and congrats for the fantastic concept of placing all of the digital stuff in the body rather than in the lens!
I am honing up and vastly enjoying IR photography which I consider very exciting since this was too much of a hassle with film.
I am also introducing my kids to photography and they are using pentax equipment.
Will insert some photos next post.
