I made it quite different, hopefully this isn't too weird :) I'm not that great at this..

e: I edited the curves a bit (pretty randomly), then tried different color settings (pretty randomly as well) and sharpened the center of the flower slightly with unsharp mask.

No prob, but I don't think that's a bad image at all! :) at least it would be worth a shot to try some post-processing to see if it's possible to get something funky. I actually did a quick test with GIMP, is it ok to post the edited pic here?

Heya (tjena :-)

Well I really like the OOF-area blur as well, and the colors in the background look good too. The white flower however (in my opinion) gets a bit lost against the strong background as it is a bit dreamy and doesn't really "pop out".

Maybe a different composition would have made it more interesting as well, as you said..

The composition looks nice, but the image is really soft, as noted above. However, the painting-like softness seems to be quite ok in this case (at least to me).

Really cool pictures you don't get to see every day. There's something about #3 I really like. The water has a nice painting-like look and the atmosphere is really mystical and eerie. It looks like a place where you might find a gate to Hell.

#4 is nice as well, but the skewed waterline gives a bit uneasy feeling to me.

I think, when looking at a good HDR photograph, people shouldn't necessarily recognise it as a HDR photo, unless compared directly to a single "normal" photo of the same scene.

I'd say #1 as well. It has more natural feel and the butterfly is sligthly in a better pose. When you look at the #2 photo, eyes automatically check those strongly lit leaves a bit too much. Not that it isn't a very good photo as well. :)

Niceeee, I really can identify with you on this. :) From what I've heard, the 180mm is really great, and doesn't have any real faults. ...I'll post some pics when I get the camera, maybe to this thread then. The time limit for me to buy the K5 is maybe at the beginning of June - my good friend couple is getting married just then, and I want to give them some nice photos.

Allright, thanks Les. If it's just a single "ok" at every starup it's not that bad :-)

I already have the VL58, I think I bought it over a year ago.. jeez. I'm planning to buy the K-5 a bit closer to summer, when the prices (should) drop a bit.

Howdy, a quick question about this lens + K.5:

I've heard that with K-7 and earlier bodies you have to set the focal length of this lens manually (to 55mm). Is it the same with K-5?

I think that the 1st picture is great just as it is now. The 2 reds are balancing each other in a nice way, and the horizon "cuts" them apart just from the middle of them.

When comparing between the K-5 and K-x, the K-x seems to have better "Low-light/High-iso-performance".. weird.

Nice looking lures BigBassMan :-)

some ideas:

Might be a good idea to try taking some (or all) of the random stuff away from the background and see if it's any better. Too much different stuff in the picture usually distracts the eye from the main subject. Good background surfaces what I could think of might be (old grey)wood or stone.

example I found: Dan Routh Photography: More Fishing (the lower pic)
